During the January window we are told that prices are over inflated as a reason for not doing any business, and during the summer we find ourselves priced out of a competitive market by nearly all of the other PL clubs and the big city Championship clubs prepared to pay the high wages.

The simple truth of the matter is that without outside investment we have allowed several transfer windows to open and close with no incomings, and be left with the same group of players becoming stale and very hard for a manager to motivate, with our style of play becoming very predictable

Not quite true. We've blown close to £50 million in fees and wages on players that have had a limited impact on the 1st team over the last couple of years. We have money and do pay good wages, we've just failed to spend it well.

Totally agree with this point. It is the turn over in playing personnel that keeps a squad competitive. Game time helps. You can only preach the same tale so often then they switch off.

In the squad as a left sided player. Not trying to compare them or say he is close to being good enough just that he can play the same position and has been in and around the squad this year.

The talk of championship clubs paying better wages that we do is nonsense, arguable that two or three might not other than that we can outpay everyone else.

It’s as though we think the market will move in our favour whilst we stand back aghast. It won’t. If we haven’t put structures in place to source from elsewhere ( as we should have known this for a while) we may as well put the white flag up and say we are not participating but thanks very much for all the money you pay us.

Sadly I think if we sign anyone it will be an unwanted has-been who is in the twilight of his career, or some overpriced bang average player from the championship who won’t get a start until next season anyway.

It’s how we do things under this management.

Unfortunately most of the regular contributors to this board are just miserable human beings looking for any reason to complain or whinge. Its just their inherent nature. The same ones complaining about the attempts to control the financial side of the club would be the first ones crying if we went down and were burdened financially, like so many clubs have done in the past after gambling with moneys paid on fees and wages. The reality is at some stage we will be relegated and this year is a possibility. Of all the teams in the Premier League how many have never been in the Championship or lower i the last 15 years or so? Probably only the traditional big 6 and Everton, and Everton have skirted it at least a couple of times. So to think a club with our finances should gamble and risk a much bigger slide than a relegation to the Championship is just idiotic.

Its a difficult patch, and the football isn't amazing on the eye at the moment because things aren't clicking, we've had players suffering with injuries and confidence is low.

Given what the board and the management teams (and I include Coyle and Howe in this) have done to get the results on and off the pitch that we have in the last 10 years, I think the very least they deserve is respect, trust and support rather than a pathetic charade of trying to pick holes and find fault in decisions where people haven't the slightest idea of the details.

cobblers,
fans are entitled to air their views wrong or right about their club.
Its that sort of game. Just because supporters expect to see a club being strengthened and maintaining their status, doesn't equate to whinging .
Dyche needs backing in order to achieve things here, and he isnt getting enough of it.
respect is a two way street, the fans deserve to be seeing the club throwing the kitchen sink at staying up having backed them all the way through the dark days.

There is some middle ground between the extremes.
Know one is saying we should be risking a big slide.

One or 2 players over 3/4 windows is what people expect to try and maintain a fresh squad.

People are using the Orient game to highlight where we could easily end up if we overspend and it fails. This is much less likely to happen with our prudent approach and is a reality that we have to face as a very small club playing amongst the big boys.

The FA Cup you can rightly talk about us winning as there is still a possibility that could happen as it is essentially down to six one off games that could all be against teams you are expected to beat / luck of the draw / catching teams on a bad day. the league on the other hand..........

But we have spent money and when it hasn't worked (Gibson, Vydra etc) those that like a moan then complain we have wasted money and should be spending even more which isn't always viable.

The reality is that we are unlikely to be able to much improve the squad we have without either getting very lucky or spending massively.

Irrelevant to what ?
Irrelevant to how we play on Sunday and the rest of the season I agree - but so is last week to a degree.
History is however very relevant to a lot of fans - for many reasons. Gives a lot of us great memories and also a large amount of perspective - it’s what separates a lot of those people who are consistently negative about Dyche and the club to those who realise that things could be and have been a hell of a lot worse - in fact they have been rarely better than the last few years for many fans.

History also is very helpful in evidencing what has happened to many other football clubs when they do the kind of things that people on this board are advocating - spending more than we can afford, getting rid of the manager, getting rid of the current owners etc

Spending the money we have on Gibson and Vydra has been a waste, surely you can't argue against that - add to that DD

But to suggest we can't improve this squad without being lucky or spending massively is also not the issue

The fact remains that, despite numerous changes within the recruitment team, we have failed in the last two years to bring in a single player deemed good enough to start

Do we seriously have to think of spending upwards of £20m plus to improve on the likes of Lowton, Lennon, JBG, Brady, Cork or Westwood

That would put them in, at least, the £15m bracket and to get that money we would have to be VERY lucky

The recruitment team, and that's including Dyche, have been poor at best. Garlick may be the one to sign the cheques but given our record over the last two years I can somewhat understand his nervousness about spending a lot on a single player

Also, where have we bid these large amounts in the past ? Phillips was touted around £20m last summer but Vydra was part of the make up of that bid so not all cash

I don't agree with you... Having two CMs, one of which has been bang average for two seasons (or three if you include Hendrick who we know the manager doesn't rate in there) is an injury away from us guaranteeing relegation.

Teams need to have a squad and we have been light in CM for years. Any championship CM would therefore improve the squad, the signing doesn't have to be marquee, it just needs to strengthen us sufficiently.

The issue around Vydra and Gibson is that they were fulfilling the above roles but cost £26m between them. For those fees and the size of our club, those types of signings need to be on the pitch.

I remember when the line used to be trotted out that Burnley Football Club had the blueprint for Premier League survival.

Obviously people didn't read the small print where it stated that even after surviving several seasons in the PL they still won't be able to afford to bring in any first team players.

So......exactly how did Vydra and Gibson become so poor that they can’t get near our team. Both were very highly rated and were bought for big money (by Burnley standards). It’s criminal how these have been basically left to rot. How would other clubs managers have utilised these two? And as for not strengthening our joke of a midfield over several transfer windows, that is simply not good enough. Nowhere near good enough!

Both players not deemed good enough for first team duty but can't be loaned out to get playing time because we are so short on numbers. Therefore they just sit on the bench surplus to requirements unless injuries strike. A shocking waste of our money and of the player's talents.

But this happens in football. You need a squad, in case somebody gets injured - just because Tarks and Mee haven't been injured, that doesn't make Gibson a waste of a transfer, unless you knew neither would get injured prior to signing him.

And this is what some posters seem to be suggesting - that they knew neither of our central defenders would miss many games.
