Popmaster

I recently discovered the podcast for the Popmaster quiz on Radio 2 each day, as I am unable to listen at work. I usually stick it on in the car for the driver home. Each day they have a podcast listener of the day, yesterday was a couple who have moved from Australia to live in Burnley, followed by a cry of "Up the Clarets" from Ken Bruce.

Is he a secret fan of this site??..... :D

And yesterday I got the max 39 points on the second set of questions :)

No spoilers. I will listen later on the way home. I really need to get round to entering Popmaster, though I bet it is much more testing when you are live on national radio than it is shouting the answers in the car.....

I listen to Ken Bruce including Popmaster nearly every morning. Todày, however, the whole thing was spoiled by having to listen to continual, unfunny carrying on by "Ryland". I realise they were doing something special for Children In Need but surely they could have used someone with broader appeal?

I can usually get decent scores on popmaster more often than not in the 20s and always fancied trying to get on the show. But the real test is the popmaster finals usually just before Xmas where I struggle to get 3 or 4 right

I had a few goes at getting on over the summer. It’s not that hard to get through to the qualifying round where they ask you 3 questions. In three goes I only ever got 2/3 which puts you in the reserve list where they ask you to be ready for a call between 9.50 and 10am. I presume they give preference to those that get 3/3 in the qualifiers.

I think I have decent music knowledge by the guys in the Champions League are at a different level. Last year I struggled with nearly all the questions in one round then answered a 10 pointer that the finalist didn't know.

It’s usually men that are on so they always put women on when they can.

So when you apply use a Pythonesque falsetto.

Women have got better things to do with their time. ;)

Love Popmaster, though I do think some of the questions, particularly in the bonus rounds, are significantly more difficult than others on another day. All subjective though.

I'm sad enough to own both Popmaster quiz books too.

Love how Ken always has a "going to the men's" song on afterwards - usually some epic like "Freebird".

I misread the title as 'poopmaster'. Needless to say, I'm sorely disappointed.
