Terrific receptions for him at 3 different grounds now; for clubs he made 400+ appearances in total. Fond memories for a lot of fans.

And the memories were fond. I had a really nice chat with Dave when he came to Burnley recently for the Everton game. First time I've spoken to him in over 50 years.LeadBelly wrote:Terrific receptions for him at 3 different grounds now; for clubs he made 400+ appearances in total. Fond memories for a lot of fans.

Forty something years ago my dad took me to Jack Brays
Sports shop in Nelson to buy a pair of football boots as I was playing for the school team (Park School Colne)
Dave Thomas was serving in the shop , he sold me a pair of Puma boots

One of a Kind DT. Still looking very youthful as he marches towards 70. As well as being one of the best crossers of a ball we've ever had, he also possessed one of the hardest shots I can recall of someone in a Claret shirt.

Still love this.

Considering few started at 16, that is not a huge tally.LeadBelly wrote:Terrific receptions for him at 3 different grounds now; for clubs he made 400+ appearances in total. Fond memories for a lot of fans.

I had the privilege of speaking with him last year when he came up for the Youth Cup winning team reunion. A genuine guy and very modest too. His brother Mel worked in Burnley Town Hall for a number of years

Re: An emotional Dave Thomas at QPR
Posted this on Saturday morning:
Our 60s/70s "super star" and Burnley Legend was interviewed on R4 Today sports spot at 8:30ish this morning.
Dave and Hannah, his guide dog, will be at QPR today,
Good to wake up to Dave speaking of his grandfather winning the "original world cup" in Italy in 1909 and repeating his success in 1911 - playing for a coal mining village team. Apparently the team didn't have the funds to pay for travel back home from Italy. A pub landlady is said to have covered their costs, if the pub could keep the trophy.
Dave also spoke of scoring the winner for England schoolboys v W.Germany in April 1966. And, travelling with his Dad to games in motorbike + sidecar. I thought I heard Dave say "Worzel and Grommit" (rather than "Wallace") but that was probably just me mis-hearing.
