Manager sacked after four weeks

Post by ClaretTony » Thu Nov 14, 2019 3:29 pm

Carl Fletcher was appointed Leyton Orient manager 29 days ago, but today they've sacked him.

Their chairman said, “It’s unfortunate for the Club that we have parted company with Carl after such a short time, particularly as we are a club that tries to preserve stability. However, we felt this was in the best interests of all parties and we thank him for his hard work and wish him every success in the future.”

They gave him a deal to the end of 20/21 season too; so he's managed barely 1 month out of a contracted 20 or so months.

They'll be desperate to avoid the drop back into non-league but they're currently 16th (/24) on 20 points, two bottom clubs on 13 points. First thought is that it's maybe down to something other than results but the amount of sackings is getting crazy so maybe it is.

He won his first game in charge 4-0 against Grimsby but there's been just one point from three league games since and they went out of the FA Cup to Maldon & Tiptree. Fletcher gave up a coaching role at Bournemouth to take that job.

"He won his first game in charge 4-0 against Grimsby"

BBC reporting that he failed to win any of the games where he was in the dugout and that for the win over Grimsby, just 3 days after his appointment, he was simply an observer.

My neighbour is an O’s fan and he says they very quickly realised that he wasn’t manager material. Don’t think the fans were impressed.

He had been appointed and watched from the stands but was the manager.

On the face of it it is beyond stupid. Whoever appointed him needs to make sure they are not involved in recruiting again ( probably the Chairman !).

Tisdale linked. Bar his stint at Franchise I’d say he’d be a good choice.

Expect Fletcher felt like murder on the Orient Express when he was told that he was being sacked.
