I have no time for the Royals but there's some breathtaking hypocrisy on here.
Re: “I let the side down”
I think the one conclusion that we can all draw from this debacle is that Air Miles Andy is both arrogant and a liar.

Think it might be time for old Lillibet to arrange another car crash, and I'm not talking about this interview.

Presumed she was 17 but 18 age of consent in the US state where one of the alleged rogerings took place ?Let’s face it which red blooded male in his 30’s ( I think randy was late 30’s?) wouldn’t sort out that totty . And herein lies the crux of the matter . If Randy new it was some paid for brass then it becomes a little more sleazy and if he had sex in a country where he was breaking the law via statutory rape he’s either incredibly stupid or staggeringly naive , neither of which I’d imagine he isbfcjg wrote:Quite a few men with morals wouldn't go near somebody so much younger then themselves especially when they are being paid by your friend.

Re: “I let the side down”
Joking aside, the statements coming from the Royals and the Prime Minister on this issue are appalling.
If Prince Andrew has nothing to hide, the interview was completely unnecessary. A simple statement from Buckingham Palace that said the Prince denies these allegations and to assert his innocence and support the victims of his former friend Jeffery Epstein, he will be travelling the USA to assist the FBI's investigation in any way that he can.
Any action other than that suggests involvement and shows that the people that are the heads of our society have absolutely no concern for anyone but themselves.

I stay in most Saturday nights ........ and Friday nights and every other night to be honest. Must be an age thing. Saw the interview on Sunday morning. He's more odious and arrogant than I imagined and that was with a mediocre journalist asking the questions. A Ranvir Singh style interview of the female Salford MP(Hazel Blears was it?) from a few years back was the way to go at people like him. And why was it done in the middle of a corridor?Burnley Ace wrote:That so many posters stayed in on a Saturday night to watch this or that people are that bothered?
Re: “I let the side down”
There will have been a thorough briefing / strict guidelines as to what the BBC could ask / discuss. If she would have over stepped their mark it would have been stopped or cut out all together. It’s wrong but that’s the way it is.Silkyskills1 wrote:I stay in most Saturday nights ........ and Friday nights and every other night to be honest. Must be an age thing. But the good thing is that this rehearsed / scripted attempt by him to bring a close to the matter has backfired massively. Who would have thought that he can take the Election and Brexit off the front page ? Thank goodness for the arrogance and stupidity of the royal family because now this thing is just going to build more and more momentum.
In the olden days they would have cut off his head by now -but at least now it’s clear that this is going to ruin his privileged life and it will not be long before the rest of the royal family quickly distance themselves from having anything to do with him. There is no way he can carry on with any of his previous royal duties and there will be a lot of pressure on Scotland Yard to re-open the case and work with the US authorities without this time intervention from the the royal family trying to sweep it under the carpet.

No. Prostitutes willingly sell sex. But these girls were trafficked and forced into sex.Means they were raped. There is a difference .That's the big issue Andrew faces.bfcjg wrote:They were getting paid to have sex with men I think that makes it prostitution.

Re: “I let the side down”
I'm awaiting the FACTS that may or may not appear on this. I am not yet going to declare him 'guilty' of anything until there is evidence either way, it's no use jumping to conclusions. A lot of this depends on which side of the 'royalty' fence you sit. I am a totally committed anti-royal and that is the reason why I am being cautious because it would be easy to say he is guilty by virtue of being a royal. Similarly those of the pro-royal persuasion must be cautious of defending him because he is a royal. There is a lot of circumstantial evidence and of course he doesn't do himself any favours in interviews. There is a claim from a girl in the US that may or may not be true but as we know, especially these days, where there is a buck or two to be made and fame to be earned people will make things up and have done so in the past. And then there is the association with Epstein. That doesn't look good but you cannot be guilty by association (given the number of criminals I have known in the past that would put me in awful trouble). But the fact he is a royal should not in any way hamper any investigation into all this either, after all royalty the world over and for hundreds of years have not been noted for their sexual introversion or high moral standards.
Let the legal process take it's course in an objective and measured way and see what comes out in the wash because he is being accused of a particularly nasty crime and no-one, not even a royal, should have to undergo that if it isn't true because it always sticks whatever the outcome. However if he is proved to be guilty then his being a royal should not stop him from feeling the full force of the law. Unfortunately in that respect I'm afraid I don't really trust the powers that be too much, but then I might be being a bit cynical there.

Re: “I let the side down”
I'm not sure this is about whether Prince Andrew had relations, shall we say, with the girls at his mates house.
What, I believe, this is about is his inability to show any sympathy for the victims of his paedophile mate, his inability to even acknowledge his paedophile mate did anything wrong (statutory rate = unbecoming) and his inability to even acknowledge that he regretted the friendship (the opportunities I was given to learn were actually very useful).
Had he come out and said something along the lines of Yes he was my mate, but when I found out he was a paedophile I was sick to the stomach and my heart went out to the victims. But he didn't and his actions didn't support that thought process - clearing off to see him to terminate their friendship over the course of several days and staying at his mate's house while he did so; and the Prince called it the honourable way.
Of course a phone call - Jeff, you perverted *******, I regret the day we met. I don't ever want to see you again, was another way.
At best he's just too stupid to understand what he's doing.
Just my opinion, of course.

Re: “I let the side down”
Ultimately it’s about the lawyers and a very rich high profile member of the royal family is a absolute godsend to this sordid tale. Randy most likely porked the bimbo in question ( most likely a highly paid and very willing operative/escort/prostitute in Epsteins stable of fillies) Whether Randy was aware she was underage ( in the US) possibly not ? but the law doesn’t allow for such guesswork and rightly so . He’s simply raised his profile and from being a bit player he’s In danger of becoming centre stage as everyone who has anything on him is looking for a piece of the action . Choppy waters ahead for “ happy finish” Windsor

"Therefore, I have asked Her Majesty if I may step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, and she has given her permission."
So it is possible to be sacked from the Royal Family then.
I wonder if he'll forego the £250k pa he receives, I think, from the civil list (won't hold my breath), but might be more of an issue claiming travel expenses (helicopter transfer from Windsor to the Golf Course), when he acknowledges he doesn't have a so called job.

Knowing the brass neck that Andrew has he'll still claim his expenses,i guess he's on the equivalent of gardening leave in football parloins,it's precisely this attitude which is storing up resentment towards the royal family,i'd also love to know precisely what his duties are for his considerable salary.Claret Toni wrote:"Therefore, I have asked Her Majesty if I may step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, and she has given her permission."

He seems a very arrogant man, but I do find the spectacle of the BBC quizzing people on associating with sex-offenders rather bizarre, given that Stuart Hall and Jimmy Saville both worked for over 40 years for the BBC without anyone noticing any untoward behaviour !

Re: “I let the side down”
According to a well known Claret who is rarely out of the media, Andrew's interview and confession is 'not that big a deal'.
And then it is revealed that he also spent time at the home of convicted sex offender Epstein and his name appeared in Epstein's little black book. Apparently with the address of 10 Downing Street.
I wonder what other skeletons our Alastair has hiding in his closet.....
