Turf Sleepout

Wondered if anyone else on here attended the Turf Sleepout last night?

Apart from raising so far over £20k for 3 local charities it was quite a magical opportunity to spend a night at the Turf.

I must also say what a fantastic job the Burnley FC in the Community department are doing, and how well organised and enjoyable the evening was.

I would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of joint in the future.

You could always help us to help them with the food collections on match days

Well done Burnleyareback2, and all those who attended the sleep-out last night.

Part of the reason I got involved last night was to try and show some appreciation for the great work that the club and supporters are doing for the community and hopefully the sponsorship I generated will help in a little way.

Working away during the week and commitments getting a couple of generations of the family to and away from games means it’s difficult to get involved in other things.

It’s just that is has been so difficult to find volunteers. It was supposed to be a supporters Clubs/UTC venture but some of the Supporters Clubs won’t support it and I really struggled to get volunteers from on here for the Chelsea game.

I really think that the food collections is just about the best way to support the work they do.

I’m surprised to hear that Tony, but I must admit I was equally surprised when only 62 people signed up for last night.
I agree with your point about the collections as being a great way to support but as you say equally helping out. Perhaps it would be worth you asking the BFC community team to send a follow up email to the people who attended the event last night and ask for volunteers?
There was a great group of people there last night.
Just an idea.

I wondered why there wasn't much coverage about it on here. Well done to all those who took part.

There was. Can’t recall who started the thread though. Must have been a bloody cold night for them. They do it on the concourses at other grounds but I think they were on the touch line at the Turf.

A couple of the pictures from last night.

Basically we slept in front of the Bob Lord behind the LED advertising screens. I was on the CF side of the away dugout wondering how much footballer spit I was sleeping on.

Well done to you. Strangely BFCitC don’t speak to supporter organisations about these events. The food collections started through me making a comment in a meeting. It’s not been a Community Initiative and they’ve not been over supportive although Anita & Nathan at the Community Kitchen have been brilliant as has Paul France.

Sorry Tony, I wrongly assumed these things were joined up...

Maybe some of the new blood on the fans forum can knock a few heads together and get everybody on board for things like this?

You would hope that collectively it would be a stronger and more aligned approach.

So what do we have to do if we are interested in helping?
(It's probably been adequately covered before, but I must have missed it)
What time do you have to be available?
What time do you finish?
What does the job entail?
[A link to a previous thread will be fine]

Id suggest it would help encourage volunteers from here if they didn’t have to use their board name and had diplomatic immunity. For the sake of a good cause everyone could be just known as Dave.

Turn up at the Turf an hour and 45 before kick off, collect a bin from the collection point, stand somewhere outside the Turf with a bin making collections, return the bin 15 minutes before kick off then get on the match.

Apart from UTC how much media is there behind the collections? I honestly only know about it from being on here.
Are there other ways it could be highlighted?

I've already put my name down to help with the bin collections but I was away for the Chelsea game. I have a season ticket but it might be nice for the club to give free match tickets to the bin collectors, like they do (or used to when I did it) with the turnstile operators and programme sellers. That would surely lead to more interest.

All down to me to get the publicity. I've used this website and message board, social media, Burnley Express, Athletic, club programme - if anyone can offer any further ideas then I'd be pleased to hear from them.

Who benefits from the food collected? Again, I’m a little unclear around the initiative. I could potentially help with some of the online marketing
