Horrendous blaze last night, thankfully all the residents appear to have escaped without major harm.
It could well bring the issue of fire safety in public buildings to the forefront of the election campaign, although the cladding on this building wasn't the same as Grenfall, the complex isn't owned by the university but by a private landlord who also manage the property, according to the student accounts the fire alarms sound nearly every day, which is why many assumed it was just another false alarm at first.
Alarms in students' rooms did not go off although other alarms were set off inside the building.that doesn't inspire confidence in the system,if people were asleep or listening to music as students often do,they might well not have heard the alarms, questions for the landlord to answer there for sure.

You can put any system in place, high or low tec but mass occupancy will always be hard to manage, especially when assumptions are made.
Good point about earphones and not forgetting drunken stupors.
Nightmare waiting to happen and fortunately this hasn't been one.

My friends son has left campus accommodation at Lancaster and is house sharing due to numerous incidents of break glasses being pressed by drunken students
