Car tyre keeps losing pressure
I'm hoping someone can help me here!
I keep losing pressure in one of the tyres in my car i.e. losing 1 or 2 psi each day.
I took it my a local garage, who advised I had a puncture, and repaired it. Job done, I thought.
The next day, the pressure was down again..... I took it back to the garage, who couldn't find any other issue.
I left frustrated, and then thought I'd change the tyre, as it needs replacing soon anyway.
New tyre fitted, with a new valve - losing pressure again!
What could be the issue??

Get your wheels checked mate .... had a similar problem with an alloy wheel that had a micro fracture....
Had probably been over a pothole and damaged the wheel......
They put the wheel on a machine, welded and re-profiled it ... wheel like new ... no more problem.

Thanks - any recommendations who to take it to in the Burnley area? Also, any idea on approximate costs?Bosscat wrote:Get your wheels checked mate .... had a similar problem with an alloy wheel that had a micro fracture....

I have the same issue, I'm constantly putting air in. I could take it to a garage - might cost few quid, might be a new tire or a new wheel... at the moment I don't have enough money to find out.
EuroGarages have FREE air machines by the way

Thanks, I thought that too, but the pressure on the car's display always matches what's on the tyre pressure machine at the petrol station.Herts Clarets wrote:Faulty tyre pressure sensor?

Re: Car tyre keeps losing pressure
I had a similar issue a few months back, took it to Kwik fit who found it to be no more than a leaking valve.
Re: Car tyre keeps losing pressure
I'd take it back to where you got the new tyre and ask them to change the valve. It should be done F.O.C.
Re: Car tyre keeps losing pressure
Had this twice first time there was a small leak on the rim. Refitted the type and it was ok. 2nd time it was the alloys. National Tyres and Kwikfit both said they didn’t do that sort of thing. I got a mobile service from Stockport (Prestige Wheels) to come out to me. They came and cleaned them up coated them with some stuff and it has been ok since. If you have alloys and they are over 5 years old and there is some visible sign of corrosion then my guess would be alloys. If they are new or look in good nick then tyre places should sort it.

Re: Car tyre keeps losing pressure
Could be one of several things -
1- where the tyre sits on the wheel, could be dirty and not allowing it to seal.
2- the wheel could be cracked or dented, again not allowing it to seal.
3- Valve.
4- puncture
5- some wheels become porous overtime and no matter what is done they just won't seal, I have this issue on my ex's Golf, the only way to sort that issue is to replace it.
If the wheel is obviously out of shape the tyre fitter should mention it when fitting tyre.
If the wheel is out of shape, they can be straightened out, we had one recently that had 3 flat spots on it and it's nice and round now.
Its same if the rim is cracked dependent on how bad it is they can be welded.

Re: Car tyre keeps losing pressure
It's probably a damaged rim - ooer, missus - from a pothole or something like that.
Surprisingly enough, a replacement rim via an eBay shop or local supplier, not your main dealer, does not cost that much.

Re: Car tyre keeps losing pressure
Something happens on alloy rims, mine have to be done a couple of times a year. I don't know what exactly but it sorts the pressure loss. I guess they must file the rim down slightly.
Re: Car tyre keeps losing pressure
Had it in a previous car.
My remedy was to put some tyreweld stuff in the tyre and let it settle. No trouble after that. Sealed whatever was causing the leak, by sucking in the tyreweld.

Put a tube in the tyre. Cheapest way out.

Always great to know you took the “cheapest way out” when you’re doing 80mph.Blyclaret wrote:Put a tube in the tyre. Cheapest way out.

Re: Car tyre keeps losing pressure
If it’s an alloy probably needs a refurb. Try East Lancs Alloys on facebook though I’ve not used them myself. I had. mine done in Manchester a few years ago, bead blasted and re powder coated. Looked mint, but a real pain taking wheels off, another car to drive there, leave them 3 days, then collect.
