ARTICLE: Eric gets on his bike for the Clarets

Post by ClaretTony » Tue Nov 19, 2019 4:43 pm

This is an article I've written previously but always wanted to include on Up the Clarets, about a young lad who got on his bike to ensure he saw Burnley play away games. Today, I've finally kept my promise and added it to this website.

Staff at the library in Burnley found it for me - couldn't believe it when I realised it was someone I'd known.

I wrote it initially a few years ago. I still laugh at the thought of him riding a bike, the most unlikely cyclist ever.

"He went to Luton last winter when the snow was on the ground. Remember? Some of the Town supporters proceeded to snowball him when they saw his rosette."

I love it :D
Snowballs. This is the level of hooliganism I can cope with.
Also love the fact that he wore a rosette.
And that he was no athlete.
And that he calmly and correctly predicted 3 sixes in 3 balls at the cricket.

If you look at the second picture of him in the article you can see he was hardly athletic. Really sad to see him during his last three or four years. He did occasionally go to the cricket but not the football.

What a great feature. Remember him from the times when you got to know more or less all the faces following Burnley away in football’s basement leagues.

You couldn't miss him could you? I'm not sure when he stopped going to the away games, he'd not been on the Turf for three or four years before he died.

The biggest revelation is that it isn't just recently that CT has had a bad taste in jackets!

Not seen him in years but he’s struggling with his walking now isn’t he?
