Surely the club aren't doubting that we'll sell 2800 tickets for a Boxing day game that's only an hour down the road?

2500 away to Everton on boxing day seems very much achievable, however doubt anyone will be rushing to buy them 6 weeks before the game and for monthly paid people a week before they are paid.
Even more so when the better seats are the ones in the top tier which will be sold last...

If people don't order in the next week the better seats won't be thee to be sold last so those who don't pre-order simply won't get one.

But we'll only take the top tier if we've sold out the lower tier by next week. So people are going to be taking a big risk if they wait for top tier tickets to go on sale. I would have thought that most fans will feel that lower tier is better than no tier!

By pre-sale I take it the tickets wont be sent out until later.
If the club said that in the event there is enough interest to take the larger allocation then the first say 1,000 would be allocated the top tier if that was the case would encourage people to buy in the presale period.And it rewards those who are willing to buy early with the best seats rather than the worst.

I’d rather not go then be in the claustrophobic death trap that is that lower tier. I’ll see more on TV with this being on amazon. For me it’s upper tier or watch it on TV.

Really? All this does is make it more likely we'll end up with a reduced allocation. Lots of people have just forked out for Spurs tickets, it's just before payday and it's too early to be thinking about Boxing Day. We'd have sold 2800 easy if sold the normal way.

Club have been criticised plenty times for taking too many or too few and are doing something about it in response which is great to see.

I'vee already made my Christmas day and boxing Day plans and i doubt I'm the only one, remember this is to guage popularity.

Stand by this being the way forwards for when we have a choice of allocations

I could understand it for some games, but for this one I didn't think for a minute we'd take anything other than the full allocation. I fancied going Everton, but am I bothered enough to chase my mates up for a game that's 5 weeks away, after just sorting Spurs out and spend 30 quid I haven't really got at the minute? I'm not so sure, and I bet there'll be plenty of others in the same boat.

You won’t win some just love to whinge and whine. Tickets are £30 and some are making out it’s a second mortgage. Put it on your credit card and pay when your statement arrives if it’s too much and you really want to go. We had the complaints that the club better take the full allocation for villa and spurs which they did, they are now trying something new and more whinging.

Love the idea though that we would sell 2800 if we did it they way we always do it (despite them wanting that methods changed) but won’t sell out if people have to commit earlier

Very true, just think its asking a lot after spurs outlay, Watford this weekend and it's a week before people get paid when the games 6 weeks away.

I understand why they have done it, but I dont think you'll get a true reflection on interest than if youd have done it from say 1st-7th Dec.

Everton will want the top tier for themselves.

The boxing day fixture is a massive tradition for football on Merseyside.
They could probably sell the ground out twice and not just cos we're rolling into town.

Everton always sell out including the top tier when available.

They even let you sell your STs or spares on Twickets to make sure seats are not left empty.

Everton are a fantastically supported club! Probably one of the best, especially when it comes to away games. This season they took 9000 to Wigan for a Mid-week friendly in the week before we played Wigan and took 900 in a Saturday! Probably the deadline for us having to say if we want the top tier is down to Everton, as they would have absolutely no problem getting rid of the top tier to their fans on Boxing Day.

Yes they sell out away from home 99% of the time, and yes they are well supported.
But they are not as great as they make out.
They usually don't sell out every game, and to say their ground is one of the smallest of the big 7 or 8, and come from a massive city, massive catchment area, + half of wales and Ireland, and are steeped in history isn't great.

Edit - 9th highest average attendance last season with 39,362, although WIKI says their capacity is 39,221 ( they had up to 39,400 on at times last season )

Yeah I'd say this is more likely down to Everton pressuring us for a decision, rather than it being a new policy by us. Still amazed we haven't just taken the lot though, it's only an hour down the road. I'd like to assume that as long as we've sold a decent chunk by next Wednesday we'll take the upper tier as well.

Dec.27th 1960 we won 3-0 at Goodison Park after losing at home to them the previous day, 1-3. Nearly 76,000 at Goodison and nearly 50,000 at Turf Moor. Just thought it worth mentioning.

Can’t be done in December. We are required to confirm our allocation to Everton by 27th November. Can’t change after that.

They are not doing - they are giving all season ticket holders the option to pre-purchase so they can determine which allocation to take.

Pre purchase with no refund though. So if you pre purchase tomorrow you’ll get one. High loyalty points holders could (but won’t if they wanna go) miss out to low point holders.

Like I say it’s not gonna matter but it does seems bit odd

No. I think they are being sensible. We’ve done this once before at Arsenal (2014 I think) and it worked perfectly.

I've not missed a Boxing Day game for about 10years but left Everton last season and said I would never go back.

Everyone likes an away game on the beer on Boxing Day though! I was planning on going, but don't know if I'm bothered enough to start chasing my mates up before Wednesday after just sorting Spurs out, and it's the week before payday.
If we don't take the upper tier I'll just spend the day in the pub instead, would rather be at the game but that's the way it is. One of the downsides of being in the Prem, having to plan away games weeks in advance. Can recall just turning up and paying cash at Barnsley and Boro for Boxing day games in recent years.

Apart from the fact the tickets wont arrive for a while, what's the difference between a sale of tickets and a pre-sale? Are funds only taken at a date in the future?
