Sneaky Burnley/AmazonPrime?

Post by wilks_bfc » Wed Nov 20, 2019 12:07 pm

The club have just tweeted out that we can watch the upcoming Man City & Everton games for free if you sign up to the AmazonPrime 30day trail

What they haven’t mentioned is that if you sign up today, the Everton game won’t be within that trail ;)

There’s a massive advert for this on the side of the pub on Manchester road at Rosehill, and I mean massive, the full size of the building

Club are hardly going to say "go to UTC for free streams" are they

AmazonPrime also includes free delivery on any orders which some might find useful for Christmas

Will I get this for free if I vote Labour on Dec 12th?

Along with my free cable broadband and free university education for children/grandchildren.

Bit disappointed that the Lib Dems haven't offered any freebies yet. But there is still plenty of time.

Amazon prime is a rip off, they hoodwink you hoping you try to cancel last minute or forget.

If it's a free trial it should automatically end after 30 days with you needing to ring up and set it up permanently should you be happy with the service, not the other way round.

That’s more that the offer method is a rip off.

Amazon Prime itself is a pretty decent service at a decent value, particularly if you order frequently from Amazon.

How will pubs get to screen these games?

Bear in mind Sky charge 10x the price for pubs and clubs than households.

Prime is a pretty good service, with some decent TV & films on there.

I've taken services on a trail basis and never forgotten to cancel those I don't want by setting a reminder up for the day before

It’s how pretty much every free trial for anything works these days.

I've got the whole sky package so dont need Prime.

I'm sure it's got some good benefits, but none that have made me use Amazon, or prime so far.

Wife got stung with the prime free trial con, so I wont go near it or them

Get yourself down the local supermarket most have a "Free from" Aisle these days :D

On a different tack ....

Isn't Amazon the company people whine about for not paying Taxes at a fair rate, and closing down High Street stores....

I forgot one time and rang up two weeks after the first monthly charge, to cancel it. They could see I hadn't used it in that fortnight, so refunded the money.

It’s how free trials work usually. You give them your bank details and it explains that you will be charged after the free month. I’ve already had my free Prime month but I’ll be at the two games so there’s no incentive for me to subscribe.

Amazon are good to in that you don’t get charged if you go over the trial period provided you haven’t used it after the free month.

Amazon prime can be cancelled immediately and the trial still runs for 30 days. So sign up , go into your account and unsubscribe from Prime. You don’t need to call them or wait 30 days.

This.

When I'm making purchases on Amazon, they often tempt me with a 7 day trial, so I take the trial, get the free delivery, then cancel the trial. A few weeks later, they offer me another trial.

How the **** is it a con? They say free trial (which is what you get) and the state after that it’ll £8 a month every month until you cancel. Forgetting to cancel before the trail ends and your first paid month begins is your own fault. It isn’t difficult to remember. Stick a reminder in your phone to cancel.

As mentioned, you don't need a reminder. Sign up, then cancel. The trial will still run the course.

I do like how Burnley have claimed to have partnered with them. I don't think there was much option given Amazon Prime won the rights to show these two games.

It's actually just an affiliate tag that's been added to the end of the sign up link. So I guess technically, BFC have joined their affiliate associates.

Isn't this just Burnley advertising the fact that you can sign up and get a months free trial? If you time it right you'll get access to both games.

They've had a months trial for a week or two now, I was waiting for December to begin before starting mine.

It'll be handy for xmas gifts too.

At £7.99 a month we have saved a fortune and use most of the services, music streaming, TV and free deliveries. Premier League games now being included for no additional cost is fantastic.

As many people said above I have found Amazon to be anything but sneaky.

Exactly why I got Prime.
Free delivery and general depending on what is required it's there day after.
And as I'm a old fart who still likes to get CD or even the odd LP it's great.
Have actually just watched the fourth series of Man in the High Castle.
Recommend it.

Living in Thailand you realise how much we're ripped off in the UK for live football or streaming.

Here Premier League football is shown by True, either on TV or streamed online of their app. They show every single game (Obviously not in favour of that in the UK due to attendances). They also own the rights to Thai Football, FA Cup, League Cup, ATP Tennis, F1, Moto GP, NBA, NFL, Athletics, UFC, Boxing.. all included.

You can either pay for the whole season £60, for a month £8, for a week £4.50, for 24hrs £2.50.

You'd be lucky to get a sports package with Sky at £60 a month in the UK.

It’s definitely not a con. All free trials work this way. Just cancel the trial on your phone as soon as you sign up and you’ll still get the 30 days.

I love Amazon Prime. Got some great TV shows and the free next day delivery is well handy.

The ones I use don't :)

A company can't think their product is that good, that you will go back to them after a trial of your own choice.

They hope/rely on people not cancelling to get more business.

If you like music, I just signed up for the free trial of Amazon Music HD (which is basically audiophile/lossless quality). I have 4 big old school cabinet type speakers in the living room, and just sit in a chair in the middle, and get blown away by the acoustics. I'm deciding if it's worth $13 a month which is what it'll be if I forget to cancel (careful Macca!) but I'm really swayed at this point.

Just to clarify, I'm not saying it's a con or anything like that - I personally think the Prime service is excellent and worth the money.

It was more the timing of them telling people that if they signed up for the free trial they could watch the games for free, which they can, but only if they waited a week before doing it

I do think Amazon Prime is good value. I don't subscribe to any other TV service, I use Freesat for other television channels and I order from Amazon regularly - so all-in-all it works out very well for me.

I also think students can get a 6 month trial - but can't confirm that.

It is difficult after hundreds of years of deprivation of the masses, to grasp that things can be very different and to their advantage. Ask the French. Their revolution was bloody.

On a different tack ....

Isn't Amazon the company people whine about for not paying Taxes at a fair rate, and closing down High Street stores....
Yeah that's the company people complain about.

Online companies don't have the massive overheads and can dodge the taxes.
The traditional high street is an outdated concept now and instead of fighting to save it society needs to move on.

What are you paying? I'm paying £70 but it was £45 before the discounts ran out. Normal Sky channels + Sky Sports, without broadband (TalkTalk). I need to call up and see what they can offer.

I’ve just got a Sky Q deal, full package with sport, films, box sets & Netflix plus an extra box for £52.

'Giving the consumer more choice'.

Well no actually, it just costs you more if you want to watch all the games - Sky, BT, and now Amazon bl00dy Prime.
