They are doing all things local so should be a fantastic venue. But canapés in Burnley just call them what they are bacon buttie triangles.

I like how the Burnley Express describe it as one of the town’s most famous and iconic pubs. It’s not that long ago it was Burnley Computer Centre.

Well, 20 years.
Re: The Brun Lea opens tomorrow
The Burnley Express still thinks it's an iconic newspaper.

Is it that long ago? I still wouldn’t consider the pub either famous or iconic though.Bordeauxclaret wrote:Well, 20 years.

Hope they can make a go of it. The nightlife in the town centre needs all the help it can get these days.

Such a shame how down hill the Burnley Express/ Nelson Leader have gone. Apart from clubcall 0898 it was the main way of getting Burnley FC news each week.
I still buy the leader but 50% of that is to look out for the spelling mistakes over lunch on Friday.

It really was an excellent LOCAL paper for many years. It really is a shame that we’ve lost that.Burnleyareback2 wrote:Such a shame how down hill the Burnley Express/ Nelson Leader have gone. Apart from clubcall 0898 it was the main way of getting Burnley FC news each week.

Fair play to them. Not an industry for the faint hearted, but they appear to be making all the right noises. Great that they're getting involved with local businesses such as Batch Gin, too.
Hope this and the soon to be re-opened Inn on the Wharf (which I still say has the potential to be an absolute goldmine) are great successes.

The inn on the Wharf is in a great location ....like you say could be a goldmine under the right management.Swizzlestick wrote:Fair play to them. A proper pub which I was sad to see get run into the ground before it closed. Thr right landlord will make it a great venue.Steve1956 wrote:The inn on the Wharf is in a great location ....like you say could be a goldmine under the right management.

My mistake, looks like they just applied for a new licence - think Burnley Express must have edited the story late doors.Bordeauxclaret wrote:Wasn’t aware Inn on the Wharf was re-opening.

I don't know who's involved but I saw recently that the advert for it had been withdrawn as a let had been agreed.Bordeauxclaret wrote:Wasn’t aware Inn on the Wharf was re-opening.

Somewhere doing decent but quick food on a match day plus some well kept beer would be welcome.

Re: The Brun Lea opens tomorrow
Inn on the Wharf could be a top notch pub IF they look after their draft beers and provide good food, not ping-food or deep-fat fryer fodder - the market is already saturated with such fodder.
Good food that is made on the premises. I'm not talking about fine dining or its prices. Just decent food made in their kitchen, not bought in from an industrial unit and reheated. The Wharf has a decent car park and people will travel if the food and beer is good. It has great potential, so here's hoping.

Agreed- also if you’re an office worker and want a pub lunch (not liquid) then it could be a decent alternative to dining in The Big Window or either of the Spoons. Every so often I would meet my wife and her colleagues there but the food was not up to scratchBilly Balfour wrote:Inn on the Wharf could be a top notch pub IF they look after their draft beers and provide good food, not ping-food or deep-fat fryer fodder - the market is already saturated with such fodder.

Re: The Brun Lea opens tomorrow
Called in last night a bit underwhelmed TBH just had one real ale on which was disappointing looks like they either sold out of the ones advertised or they didn't get them in on time. First Friday after opening should have been rocking.
Re: The Brun Lea opens tomorrow
Have they done much to it apart from got some TVs and got SkySports? As long as they play music on a Saturday night they should still be able to attract the younger crowd. Let's face it there isn't much competition and the bar is set pretty low these days when it comes to Burnley's nightlife.bfcjg wrote:Called in last night a bit underwhelmed TBH just had one real ale on which was disappointing looks like they either sold out of the ones advertised or they didn't get them in on time.
