driving license help

Post by gandhisflipflop » Wed Nov 20, 2019 9:40 pm

Hello.

I need a bit of advice if possible. I recently passed my driving test, and after the test the examiner took my provisional license away from me and gave me a pass certificate which I was told would act as my driving licence until my new one came through. I pointed out that on my provisional the expiration date of the licence was 19.11.19 and would I need to do anything about that to which he replied no it would automatically renew.

I have received a letter today from the DVLA stating that they have received notice that I have passed my test and to send a photo i.d and 17 pounds in as my current license expires on 19th Nov which was yesterday. Does this now mean that I can't drive my car until in get a renewed license as it contradicts what the examiner told me.

Does your provisional not have a photo ID? It should be done automatically and within a few days. I'd call DVLA to see what's going on. Its odd he took the licence away as I don't remember that happening to me (7 years ago now). It came in the post about 5 days after I passed with no extra charges. Sounds like you've been done (or I'm talking shite)

Reading this it sounds like your driving instructor was right to take it and shouldve sent it off. Maybe get in touch with him/her to see if they have?

When you pass

You can start driving as soon as you pass your driving test.

You must have an insurance policy that allows you to drive without supervision.

You are a full licence holder. You dont have to be in possession of your licence to drive on the road.

Youll want to get it sorted but it doesnt prevent you from driving.

Off to work you go! If you are asked for your licence you will have time to get it before hitting a problem.

Just remember that now you have passed your test is when you will learn to drive and for the first year take extra case as I think the stats say just over 20% of new drivers have a prang in the first year

I used to work at the DVLA. Your pass will be on their computer system so you are entitled to drive. Just follow their instructions about the photo and fee. I’m not familiar with new passes but see if you can do it online. You can usually opt to reuse an existing photo, use your passport photo, or upload a photo.

Best to apply for a driving licence though.

I have normally found if you have evidence you have sent off your money and application and are just waiting for it to come through.
No police officer will do anything to you.

I rang DVLA today, they said I could drive the vehicle and it is my photo that needs renewing which is why they couldn't process the renewal. So I have to send a photo with 17 pounds through the forms I was sent. They also said the examiner misinformed me that it would automatically renew.

I bet that did wonders for your confidence

Mine is more questioning my own driving after I have drove. Should I have done this? Was there something I've done wrong and did not see? Did I speed? Was I too slow? Just general anxiety. It has been a bit better today. Just scared of losing my licence I have taken over 10 years to get

I passed my motorbike license a couple of years ago and the examiner forwarded my license to the DVLA on my behalf.
You can see your license details online on the DVLA website......
Congratulations on passing. ... now develop your skills and gain experience...but above all 'stay safe on the road'
