Gone quiet on here about Wolves run after struggling early season and now up to 5th.
Maybe you can do both.

You probably can if it you've got the massive resources that clubs like that have.BOYSIE31 wrote:Gone quiet on here about Wolves run after struggling early season and now up to 5th.

By the same logic Mau Utd & Arsenal are struggling due to being in the Europa League, seems you can't do both

I can promise you that very few of the posts about Europe have been talking about Wolves.BOYSIE31 wrote:No was only thinking while looking at league table this morning but dont let that stop you.

Are you saying they didn’t struggle in the league in August and September when they were playing in Europe ?BOYSIE31 wrote:Gone quiet on here about Wolves run after struggling early season and now up to 5th.

Wolves actually don’t have that huge a squad despite their resources.nil_desperandum wrote:You probably can if it you've got the massive resources that clubs like that have.
(They've also had - generally - a very easy ride in Europe, whereas we could hardly have had more difficult fixtures at that stage of the tournament.)
Wolves have had a very different squad structure to most teams in the last 3 or 4 years. They have basically brought in a lot of players in on loan - paying huge loan fees because of the pedigree of the players - and then gradually buying the players they want.MrMeeseeks wrote:Wolves actually don’t have that huge a squad despite their resources.
So far they’ve used 20 players in all competitions. By comparison we used 23 in our Europa League qualifiers.
As you’ve mentioned I think the major difference is that they essentially received two byes in the early rounds. Not sure how we’d have fared against Torino though.
claretonthecoast1882 wrote:Then you have to mention all 3 clubs positions not just cherry pick the 1 to suit your point
You are also ignoring the squad Wolves have, people still cry like toddlers now that we made changes for the games
TVC15 wrote:Are you saying they didn’t struggle in the league in August and September when they were playing in Europe ?
They were pretty much in the same position as we were last season despite them having a much bigger squad and spending several million more on transfers and wages.
I am pretty sure I remember most people in football drawing a parallel to Burnley last season when Wolves were struggling.
But not surprising you are trying to find an angle to have a go at Burnley....especially with it being a quiet few weeks for you with our back to back victories.
Which means we might have done equally well, had we had the luck. Anyway we might find out sooner rather than later as we might just do it again this time.nil_desperandum wrote:You probably can if it you've got the massive resources that clubs like that have.

Happy with the victories but only papering over the cracks - 2 very very poor teams and people mention Europa league againTVC15 wrote:Are you saying they didn’t struggle in the league in August and September when they were playing in Europe ?

What gives you the idea Boylsie supports BurnleyStalbansclaret wrote:BOYSIE please, please either lose your constant negativity and urge to find any reason to compare us unfavourably with anyone else or maybe just go and support someone else. It's a total no-brainer that Wolves financial backing vastly out-strips ours so of course they are going to be more likely to be able to cope with the Europa League than us. They also had a virtual walkover draw to reach the Group stage btw in contrast to ourselves. We beat two half-decent teams and could, on another day, have beaten the Greek league-leaders who have have been competing in the Champions League group stage this season.
We are punching so far above our weight as a club under Sean Dyche that your being a constant critic on here makes absolutely no sense at all and is just an irritant

Hey Boss, why all the gender unspecific comments? Surely someone called Boysie wouldn't be a Girlsie would they?Bosscat wrote:What gives you the idea Boylsie supports Burnley
Nothing I have read in any post he/she has made convinces me he/she follows Burnley FC
Well I wouldn't want to upset someone by mistaking their gender... but I supposed I should have included the Sam Smith term "They" apologies for any confusion or hurt implied it wasn't my intention........houseboy wrote:Hey Boss, why all the gender unspecific comments? We've been around in circles with this though. Some fans even would have taken relegation to get to the final, that's how mad it got. Until we have the depth (in terms of quality - not numbers) in the squad, I think he made the right decision.jrgbfc wrote:We did have some tough draws, but we certainly didn't help ourselves. Mee and Tarkowski left out in Athens and in the home game we knew we had to score at least twice and our best goalscorer Wood was sat on his backside on the bench. Those are the facts. Dyche clearly wasn't bothered about getting to the group stage.
Aberdeen might have been the toughest team we could have got. But that doesn’t make them any good does it?TVC15 wrote:Aberdeen were one of the toughest teams you could have played on the first round - a lot of the teams are part time.
The Turkish team had finished 3rd the year before and were being bank rolled by a rich owner.
Olympiakos regularly reach the champions league group stages - they play Spurs tomorrow. We drew them in one of the only years they were in the Europa league.
Wolves’ draw was far easier and Torino have a far inferior recent record in Europe than Olympiakos. Can’t remember them ever qualifying for champions league
The only people who choose to rewrite the facts are those who love nothing more than criticising the team.
I think you may be missing the point a little. I am normally very up-beat about us but no-one has been more critical on here than me about our handling of Europe. First off it's not about the results (and Aberdeen and the Turkish club are hardly Barcelona), it was about the team selection. We actually fell at the first serious hurdle. The teams that Dyche put out made it absolutely clear that he wasn't in any way prioritising Europe. To say differently is just plain wrong, and I still believe and have said so many times, that part of our drop in form during that period was due to players being demotivated at being dropped for Europe after working their asses off getting us there. I may be wrong but that is what I believe. If you are a player and you have played out of your skin to achieve a Euro spot, and then get dropped for those games, wouldn't you be p!ssed off? I know I would.Stalbansclaret wrote:Jesus.... no we didn’t ..we knocked out two decent teams and then faced a tough tie against a Champions League standard team. We lost , with a weak referee shafting is in in Piraeus and then a return leg where we absolutely battered them but missed the crucial chances. That’s football and it’s just pathetic to be bleating and crying that we are not Wolves.
You don't see Torino play in the Champions League because they ply their trade in Italy and have to cope with Juventus, Inter, AC, Roma, Napoli and a whole host of 'good' teams. If you can finish top half their you are a good side.TVC15 wrote:Aberdeen were one of the toughest teams you could have played on the first round - a lot of the teams are part time.

You don’t see them in the Europa league much either - Joe Hart signed for them - that’s how bad they are !houseboy wrote:You don't see Torino play in the Champions League because they ply their trade in Italy and have to cope with Juventus, Inter, AC, Roma, Napoli and a whole host of 'good' teams. Are you saying Hart was NEVER a good player? And Torino just happen to be the 6th most successful side in Italy.TVC15 wrote:You don’t see them in the Europa league much either - Joe Hart signed for them - that’s how bad they are !
It was a joke !houseboy wrote:Are you saying Hart was NEVER a good player? And Torino just happen to be the 6th most successful side in Italy.
Sorry I missed the joke bud. Yeah Torino have mostly history on their side. They had probably the best club team in the world back in the 40s but it was wiped out in an air crash. 5 consecutive titles with that team. Sad end.TVC15 wrote:It was a joke !
Although if you see the howlers he made for Torino then it’s no wonder there was not a queue of clubs wanting to sign him.
No I am not saying Hart was never a good keeper - he was an excellent keeper. But his confidence had gone (partly down to his poor treatment by Pep) a fair amount of time before he signed for Burnley. He had been poor for England in the euros, poor for Torino and then poor for West Ham. And when I say “poor” it’s partly relative to how good he was before he lost his confidence.
Oh and btw Torino’s success is mostly historical as I’m sure you well know.
