No age at all. Quite a shock. Always used to get him and the violin playing Villa fan Nigel Kennedy mixed up. Very sad though.

I've just seen this via a random tweet on Twitter. Very surprised.

Not read anything regarding the cause though.

I was only thinking about him yesterday and that with the plethora of cookery programmes on TV, you never see him these days. Going back a few years he was a regular. I have a couple of his cook books at home. Sad news.

That is a shock. We met him on a cruise a few years ago and he was a smashing bloke to talk to.

Very sad news.

Has the misfortune of being somewhat overshadowed by the death of Gary Linekar’s dog on the same day. He opened a restaurant long ago in the Portland Hotel in Manc and came out to join in a singalong with cricketer Dermot Reeve on guitar and a very very drunk Mark Bosnitch.

He was surrounded by his family when he died in Dubai so I presume a illness that was known about.

The Express have published an article titled: Gary Rhodes how did he die: Cause of death

In it they say it's unclear how he died and they have no idea.

Except this isn't true.

Gary's death is the top story on all the news sites and on twitter has been the top trend all morning. All the major chefs have been paying tributes and the majority of people have been saying positive things about him.

While I wasn’t being entirely serious , it is worth noting that Linekar’s dogs death made it into all the daily papers /feeds etc and continues to trend , which is bizarre in itself even for the nations favourite Jewish grandmother .

Apparently Jamie Oliver tweeted earlier about him having had a "tragic fall" but deleted the tweet soon after. He had been working right up to his death

Now being reported as natural causes during a break between filming.

Far too young. He certainly was an inspiration with his style of cooking at the time. RIP Gary.

Yesterday I was watching an episode of that Mitchell and Webb look. If anyone remembers, the sketch where Webb plays Gary Rhodes with his forever youthful big gelled hair.

It made me wonder what happened to him so I looked him up on Google and found he lives in Dubai and didn't seem to have done any TV work recently...I said to the wife I wonder why he stopped his TV work...and today I found he died.

Wtf kind of coincidence is that? I mean it could have been any episode but it had to be that one, makes me wonder if he died the moment I watched it...

Anyway he seemed one of the good guys, genuinely enjoyed what he did and had to work his way up the hard way compared to many. RIP.

His family have now confirmed that he collapsed at home and died later in hospital due to a subdural hematoma. These are apparently usually caused by head injuries so it looks like Jamie Oliver may have been correct.

Should have been amenable to neurosurgery at that age unless he was left unnoticed for a long time
