Eyres penalty miss was season before when Waddle was in charge. He signed for Preston soon after.

Two highly significant games in our modern history. I expected us to lose comfortably to Manchester City but I truly expected us to beat Gillingham. Taylor, who later signed for City, barely had to work for his five goals. After the City game everyone realised that we just weren’t good enough: changes needed making and the board had to stick and back the manager or twist. They stuck, backed the manager financially and he paid them back heavily.

Amazingly, he was partnered by Carl Asaba up front in that game.

Asaba was by far the better player of the two, but didn't get on the scoresheet that day! :o

Asaba was always a nuisance whenever we played against him. Played with Taylor at Brentford too and always seemed to do all the hard work. Taylor just scooped up all the goals. Had a hell of a record against us.

I KNEW for a FACT that Bob Taylor scored all five goals before half time.

Bloke in the pub KNEW for a FACT that he only scored three before half time.

Turns out he scored four before half time.

Odd how the mind plays tricks.

We DID beat top of the league and PL bound Fulham around that time, when (I think) Keegan was in charge, but I seem to remember His Holiness Saint Glen scoring the goal?

You might be right, I might be mixing up my seasons, but I remember a home game against a top of the league fullum, at the end of the season, at the turf, at night (?) and ronnie jepson scoring the winner....there was a pitch invasion and everything....I think....!

I remember a City fan in the JHU getting some stick but when the sixth goal went in he got a pie in his ear , that's when he decided to leave.

I know the game you're thinking of and yes, Jepson did get a late winner in a 1-0, but in my mind I'm thinking it was promotion chasing QPR, but I'm getting on a bit so it may well have been Fulham as you say. I can even picture the goal in my mind, but can't be certain of the opposition. That game was definitely an afternoon match, whereas the one where Saint Glen scored was a night game I think.

I spent more time in the 101 than Kev Macdonald.

Thank the lord for the three goal rule.

They had the whole off the cricket field end which away teams had then and packed it out
Was a night match if I remember and was the loudest I think I've seen it
Wolves also Filled it around the same time when the score was 3-2 to them I think
