Not getting the Hendrick love in. People above saying Lennon and DD easily getting knocked off the ball. For his size JH has little physical prescence and gets knocked off the ball far too easily. He has one good game in 6 in any position. We need someone stronger and more confident with the ball.
Re: Danny Drinkwater - City
If Hendrick runs his contract down and leaves this summer would you be confident that we'd replace him with better?cblantfanclub wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 4:52 pmNot getting the Hendrick love in. Re: Danny Drinkwater - City
Once again Hendrick gets moved to accomodate another player and then gets slagged for his performance. I think we'd struggle to replace him for £15m if he runs his contract down...which wouldn't surprise me at all.

Exactly it's not Jeff's fault we have a manager who can't except that he will never be a no 10boatshed bill wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 6:06 pmOnce again Hendrick gets moved to accomodate another player and then gets slagged for his performance. Right mid, centre mid, or No10. I always think he gives it his best shot. It does seem that he's become what you might call a "utility player"
Re: Danny Drinkwater - City
Might be why he's reluctant to sign a new deal with us? Maybe he sees himself as a centre mid and he's had enough of being shifted around constantly?

Re: Danny Drinkwater - City
Strange tactical decision from Dyche. DD just looked unfit but worse, sone of our regulars looked to be having a night off.
Easiest game City will have all season.
I left early, shoot me.

Wish we had a Marney and a Barton in there. Might not beat the likes of City but they would know they'd been in a match.

Re: Danny Drinkwater - City
For all Sean's pluses he has a blindspot over Hendrick and the no 10 role,if we're going to play Wood up top on his tod against City then surely Jay was a more natural fit in that position,we'd have probably still lost but at least their shaky backline would've been tested.

Exactly, and JH in centre-midfield instead of the unfit Drinkwater.tiger76 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 7:54 pmFor all Sean's pluses he has a blindspot over Hendrick and the no 10 role,if we're going to play Wood up top on his tod against City then surely Jay was a more natural fit in that position,we'd have probably still lost but at least their shaky backline would've been tested.

Re: Danny Drinkwater - City
Hi everyone, so good to be back
I thought the whole team selection on Tuesday was a mystery. He said Barnes wasn't fit enough to play from the off, which we have to accept, but I'd rather we'd played 442 and got whooped than whatever that was.
I acknowledge that Citeh had one of those games, and the result when they play like that isn't often in doubt, but against Citeh, against Palace, against Sheff U, against Watford we are so so slow out of the blocks. Sheff U and Palace, did to us what we used to do to everyone else. If we don't hit the ground running from the kick off, it's going to be a long and miserable season. Hard to bear considering the start we had. I've always been a performance above results mind set, if you play well the results will come. If we play, or start, like we have for the last few games then they won't.
I listened to The match on the radio, Newcastle and Citeh on the way down on Saturday, and the commentators were saying how ponderous the Geordies were, as if they were waiting for something to happen, rather than trying to make something happen. I think we are suffering from the same problem. Time to get in peoples faces and rough them up, and when we do win the ball be brave and confident with it. Shrinking violets win sod all.

Re: Danny Drinkwater - City
We had absolutely no outlet against City. We lack serious pace (obviously), so it made zero sense to play with one lone target man when we're constantly forced to clear our lines. City are quality, yet we still managed to make it incredibly easy for them to deal with us.

I was shocked as he makes so many great saves with his feet. If he had stood still it would have hit his right leg.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 11:44 amHarsh and not entirely factual . He certainly looked at fault near post for their first.
He will be our number 1 until some top 6 side comes in for him. So let’s get behind him.

Almost looked like Dyche wrote that one off, like a cup game.

Re: Danny Drinkwater - City
It's incredibly easy to imagine a different team selection might have given us a different outcome against City, but I'm unconvinced.
Tuesday's game was pretty similar to the last two home games we've had against City up for o the point City went 2 nil up. Two years ago they should have done but Sterling missed a sitter, this year Jesus took the chance.
They dominate the ball so much in midfield that the second forward inevitably ends up playing in midfield to all intents and purposes.
As for Drinkwater, I thought he showed glimpses. Clearly struggled a bit with the pace and wasn't always on our boys' wavelength, but all pretty unsurprising given the length of his time out of first team football and the identity of the opposition. I won't be rushing to judge him on that performance alone.

Re: Danny Drinkwater - City
Spot on and for all the debate about DD and the general team selection, the thing which stuck in my throat on Tuesday was the total lack of "bite". We never put a single "tough", maybe bordering "rough" tackle in until Hendrick flew into someone and got booked on 86 minutes!!! Tough tackles are hard to put in when you're 5 yards off the guy receiving the ball. Even "hard man" (allegedly) Bardsely played like a kitten and rolled over. Very disappointing from us, despite City being much the better team. If you allow them to play like it's a training ground kick about, they'll bloody murder you.

I'm not getting the Drinkwater love in meself. This bloke exemplifies the term "waste of space" and he's not even one of our own!cblantfanclub wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 4:52 pmNot getting the Hendrick love in. That'll do me
Think some prefer it when we were mid table in the championship with crowds nearer half what we get now and being able to hear the players shout to each other.
Was hardly a bouncing ground in the championship

Yes but there were no streaming of games in those days so some will have no idea how dull it could benil_desperandum wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 2:00 pmPresumably the same people who would be bored by us travelling to Grimsby and Rotherham on a grim Tuesday evening?
An 8.15 kick-off against the League Champions is a pain in the backside, as are televised Saturday evening and Sunday games, but I wouldn't willingly swap our current status and opponents with anyone.
I just celebrate every match that we play in the PL, and hope that we can stay in there for as long as possible.
4-1 home defeat to Man City or goal-less draw at Spotland? Not a difficult choice for me .

I was talking about the future not the past, since the poster I was referencing was claiming that a lot of our supporters are getting bored of the Premier League. (In fact, I made no reference to "those days", - which implies the past).claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2019 8:44 amYes but there were no streaming of games in those days so some will have no idea how dull it could be
