sorry but its time for a change
Ben Gibson deserves a chance
Re: sorry but its time for a change
Completely agree. Ben Mee is woeful.
Was woeful in the first half of last season and inexplicably kept his place, so doubt a change will happen.

Agree big time. His distribution is shocking and caught out of position so much today

Re: sorry but its time for a change
Not sure who you’d take out to put Gibson in to be honest.
However it’s glaringly obvious that we require a new right full back, and a couple of central midfielders, providing Drinkwatwr is going back and or isn’t up to it. Also our lack of pace going forward halts is from pushing the opposition back quite often, unless McNeil is travelling with the balm it’s pretty much a hoof and ideas are at zero.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see us go in for Bogle again at Derby, possibly Brownhill at Bristol City and I’m I’d go in for Bowen at Hull 100% but I think that ship may have sailed way beyond us now.
Since posting I’ve seen the Ben Mee stuff and I’m not sure that the captaincy is suiting him or maybe it’s weighing him down a bit I’m not sure. He was much better when Heaton took over from him last season .

Re: sorry but its time for a change
The changes that's needed, in my opinion, are in midfield - but we don't have the strength in depth to be able to do so. Ash W will make a positive difference, and a couple of reinforcements might just appear in January.

Ben Mee gets ripped to pieces these days, far too slow. He might get away with it if he stayed in his position but he gets dragged all over the shop.
Doesn't help we have 3 dud fullbacks with the other injured.

Push Tarks into cm and bring in Gibson
Kev Long can play right back
Get Kioki in at left back and give Vydra a chance for 90mins

The very fact you can single one player out in a performance like that, shows an incredible lack of footballing knowledge.
There was far worse on the field today.

There was. But unfortunately Lowton is as good as we have available right now, and Jack Cork will probably still be starting unchallenged every week until he's 60. Gibson is a change that can actually happen.bartons baggage wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 5:22 pmThe very fact you can single one player out in a performance like that, shows an incredible lack of footballing knowledge.

If we're going to try tarks in cm we should do it in the cup, that way it doesn't matter if it turns out to be a bad idea. I think it could work but more take a few games to settle in

Iv never been a Ben Mee fan and would gladly see him dropped. But he’s one of Dyches blue eyed boys so won’t no matter how bad he plays.
Re: sorry but its time for a change
4 4 2 is ok at home but when away it has to be 5 4 1 against the top sides (maybe 4 5 1 against others)
Mee has too many mistakes in him for a flat back 4 - our ancient full backs of Bards and Peiters don't help at all
Nothing in centre midfield except Westwood just proves the point for me
We might not be able to attract players but a change in system could make us more solid

I don't think defence is the problem, central midfield is woeful.
Someone suggested Tarky in the midfield, laughable but i doubt he could do any worse than what we have at the minute.

Re: sorry but its time for a change
But he won't change and we know this.
I think we will have another boxing day nightmare against a rejuvenated Everton.
I am not looking forward to next week I think we are a 12 game losing streak which may end with the Southampton match.
I don't think this is about the players I think it about the system. We are predictable and we continue to play long balls to big central defenders. We can play the ball on the floor and we can create chances.
But I am not a football manager and Dyche's Schizo Burnley always surprise me. Same team many different performances I can't figure it.

We miss Taylor and desperately need a quality RB and a CM If DD goes . Mee has been poor and though I love his heart his distribution is as poor as his pace . Brady is poor on the right as is Lennon . Wouldn’t get too bothered about 2 beatings by Euro superclubs but the ship needs to be steadied and I hope for once the board back SD in the window

Re: sorry but its time for a change
Our midfield is awful (including everyone's favourite Westwood): they don't protect the back four, they struggle to find space, they can't pass to each other, and going forward if McNeil doesn't get a centre in we are a joke. We should have signed two midfielders, a right back and a forward with pace in the summer, we didn't and we are struggling.

Re: sorry but its time for a change
Right back, central midfielder and arguably a winger all needed in January.
Not suggesting we’re loaded at all but you’d like to think the scope is there to do that business. Send Drinkwater back if he’s not going to be fit enough to contribute for a while - we can’t afford to wait.
Brownhill from Bristol City is a good shout, I’d personally prefer Ben Pearson from Preston. Bowen from Hull will be out of our price range now I’d have thought (sadly).
Not convinced Mee, Tarky or Pope are the issue personally so wouldn’t be jumping around for any changes there. The full backs (Taylor apart) are not good enough and that is where we are being carved open. The midfield without Westwood offers no protection also - I think the myth that Hendrick is better in midfield than on the right hand side has been busted, I far prefer him on the right hand side. Cork isn’t the force he was and that is more noticeable than ever without Westwood.

Re: sorry but its time for a change
I don't really have a problem with Pieters as a signing. He was meant to just be backup to Taylor who is a top quality player. I do have a problem with the fact we have to choose between Lowton and Bardsley every week. And don't get me started on Cork again.

Re: sorry but its time for a change
Listened to it on TalkSport 2 and it sounded like a dreadful performance-had a ticket but we have literally just moved house
Cannot be constructive about individuals as have seen nothing of the game but sounds like no fight and very poor defensively. Sadly closing down players and our general shape have been our strengths. That seemed to disappear today
What I cannot phatom is how we were being totally outplayed and delayed our first substitution until around he 60 minute
Cannot see Drinkwater being in our plans if he is a sub and does not get on after that performance. Can see him going back to London and teaming up with Pearson at Watford. So at least we will have his wage and Defour to work with. You would think that what has happened in the last three games is no surprise to the coaches and recruitment team who watch these guys everyday, and they have identified some new faces. No time for loyalty right now-this is a big turn round required. At present and on current form can only think of two teams who might finish below us. A few weeks ago it was 6 or 7 .

Re: sorry but its time for a change
For me it's not individuals,
It's the system....rigid, repetitive and predictable.
I said on the match thread, we dont have specific defensive tactics for specific teams. We just turn up, with our framework and do the same as we did in the last match. It feels like we say "this is what we are, come and beat us if you can"
I missed palace last wk as I was in scotland to see friends, and went to watch Dundee (proper shite). I said to lads that usually zaha rips us to bits...sure enough. I guess we had no specific tactics to nullify him??? You can forgive man city absolutely, but we did just same again. We did same again today, kane gas a good record against us, no tactics to nullify him or anyone else...5-0 at spurs with new manager, can forgive again but the manner of which maybe not.
The system doesn't work unless we can be total boss of teams,
2 in middle dosnt work with the players we have.
3 in middle means one up front...I dont believe we have the players for the either........squad has holes in it.
If you keep trying the same thing and expect different results you are ....insane ....

Mee will never play for England. He’s not a ball player and very little pace. Most teams now look for pace. Academies at all ages look for pace where as in the past it was size. Unfortunately Dyche is still thinking in the past. We are predictable and slow which puts the team under constant pressure

Mee is moving around a lot more because he is covering the wandering out of position Pieters. In the same way that McNeill is spending more of his time playing further back. The fact that McNeill still manages to get forward a lot is a minor miracle.
It is why we look a lot better when Taylor is out on the pitch. Taylor does his defensive job as well as pushing forward with purpose, which allows Mee and Mc Neill to fully concentrate on their own jobs.

When Hughes was at Blackburn Rovers, Man City and QPR his Technical Director ( head recruitment honcho ) was Mike Rigg.
