Tottenham v Burnley - Player Ratings
Re: Tottenham v Burnley - Player Ratings
By the way, I think the time has come to accept that Dwight McNeil is the best player at this club.
Re: Tottenham v Burnley - Player Ratings
To be fair the midfield pair weren't the worst out there today, in fact they were probably the best pair.
The totally rancid and outdated tactics of a flat 442 made them look incompetent, however. That, and the state of the full backs who should be nowhere a PL starting 11 and send shock waves of panic through the team with and without the ball.
Pope 5 - a poor season by all accounts
Lowton 3 - out of his depth
Tarkowski 4 - off the boil, again
Mee 3 - get him dropped, he's woeful
Pieters 3 - a joke
Brady 4
Hendrick 5
Cork 5
McNeil 6
Rodriguez 4
Wood 4
Vydra 4
Lennon 4

Sorry he was pantsclaretspice wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 11:15 pmFinal response because this is tedious. I fully accept that I'm in a minority regarding Hendrick and indeed to a lesser extent Cork. Indeed I've got a rather more sympathetic take on the overall balance of the game. But I didn't realise that invalidated my opinion. I think the majority view is wrong and undervalues how competitive we were for long periods, but that's just my opinion. As for the stats, I'm just using them to support what I thought was the evidence of my own eyes. To dismiss them out of hand strikes me as odd; I'm willing to bet Dyche won't be disregarding them.

Re: Tottenham v Burnley - Player Ratings
I think there are different kinds of incisive passes actually. For example, an incisive pass can be a quick direct pass to the centre forward that takes out one or two of the opponent players. So I don't think "you can only play incisive forward passes if you've got fast incisive runners". An incisive pass is a pass with purpose which has a good chance of creating something...claretspice wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 10:50 pmWell, for a start you can only play incisive forward passes if you've got fast incisive runners making fast incisive runs to receive those passes, which we didn't exactly have. Which makes the statistical comparison between the Spurs midfield two and ours even more flattering. But there were a few, to answer your question. Mostly to McNeil.
Midfielders getting stick for the shortcomings of the rest of the team is unfortunately not a new thing.

Pope - 6 not much chance with any of the four goals I saw
Pieters - 4 looks like a Championship player
Mee - 4 Bossed by Kane and the Spurs front four
Tarks - 4 ditto above, limp challenge in the Spurs penalty box led to Son goal.
Lowton - 3 words fail me
Cork - 5 battled away
Hendrick - 5 as above but overrun at times
Brady - 6 was unlucky with the header and tried to get things going a bit
McNeil - 7 easily the best player in Claret, but not until switched back to his position
Wood - 4 well shackled today
Jay Rod - 5 missed an absolute sitter with his head, slightly more involved and effective than Wood
Poor in and around both boxes today
to be fair, lots of burnley fans left after 70 minutes

Re: Tottenham v Burnley - Player Ratings
Pope 6 didn't do owt wrong, but as an England goalie I'd have liked him to make a couple of saves.
Pieters 3 oh dear! Utterly awful.
Tarks 5
Mee 4 - just not at it in any sense and total lack of leadership.
Lowton 3 - words do'nt fail me, they're just not printable. I'd have loved to see Stan's reaction to that performance with Lowton thumbing a lift back North on the M1 entry slip road!!
Cork 4 - yes he battles and yes he tries, but he's so slow and ponderous and really can't affect the game.
Hendrick 5 - I actually thought he really got stuck in and although clearly outplayed, he kept at it.
Brady 6 - decent going forward tbf and unlucky not to score, but gives little or no cover when "defending"
McNeil 7 - the only player who Spurs needed to worry about and fair play to the lad.
Jayrod 5 - worked hard and really should have scored in the first half, but doesn't work well with Wood imo.
Wood 3 - wasn't "well shackled" as my Grandma could have looked after him today. He was hopeless and at times I thought I was watching the great Liam Robinson!
I've only EVER left one match early and that was Celtic, but yesterday I drew the line at 5 -0 and went. It was simply too embarrassing to watch and made all the worse because it was the 3rd crap showing in 7 days. I went down on Friday, had a great day ticking pubs in Hampstead and ticked more in central London Saturday morning, but then the football kicked off and completely ruined it. If ever there was a case for the players refunding 3000 people for the money they shelled out on tickets, that was it. Garbage from start to finish. I accept we're lacking some front line players who matter (Westwood, Taylor, Barnes, JBG) but all clubs get their share of those situations and deal with them. We were also playing one of the top sides over the past few seasons and I realise that, but far too many players looked way, way below the standard required and we looked nailed on for relegation. Some massive games coming up!

The minimal noise might be related to the team being 2-0 down going on 10 after nine minutes.Burnleyareback2 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 12:05 am

Re: Tottenham v Burnley - Player Ratings
Got lucky only so MOD . Did not expect to beat City or Spurs so not surprised . Lowton weak link and Westwood not the answer either IMO so play Drinkwater or find a creative midfield player .

Re: Tottenham v Burnley - Player Ratings
Dismal day - we can't afford so many of the team to have an off day against anyone - let alone Spurs. A very slow and lacklustre start handed them a 2 goal lead in 9 minutes and from the on it was always going to be difficult.
Pope 6 - not lots to do. No chance with any of the goals really
Lowton 4 - poor
Tarks 6 - pick of the baxk 4
Mee 5 - both he and Tarks were left badly exposed
Pelters 4 - struggled
McNeill 7 - looked dangerous
Cork 4- miles off the pace
Hendrick 3 - offered nothing today and I'm usually a fan
Brady 5 - up and down but passing not great
JayRod 6 - coupke of nice touches. Could have had a couple of goals on another day
Wood 5 - not really at the races today
Vydra 4 - did he come on?
Lennon 5 - got a nice cheer from the home fans - busy but ultimately innefective

Re: Tottenham v Burnley - Player Ratings
OK, ready to post ratings.... Sunday Times, though I'm not going to argue against them:
Son 10
Kane 9
rest of Spurs team 7s (4), 6s (4) and 5 (1)
Clarets:
Jay Rod 6;
Pieters 6:
Pope 4;
Mee 4:
rest of team 5s (7)
Note: STimes has a guy called "Brandy" on our left midfield. I think there were a few who could have done with a brandy after that performance.
Today's results are a little kinder to us.

Very little atmosphere even before the goals rained in. A very different than normal away support.claretgilly wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 9:05 amThe minimal noise might be related to the team being 2-0 down going on 10 after nine minutes.

All 4s apart from McNeil - 7
A simply dreadful day and a run we need to snap out of very quickly. We need a new right back and another threat upfront. If that means letting the likes of Vydra, Brandy and Lennon go to accommodate, so be it.

Glad to see most people keeping marks the same irregardless of opposition.
Too many times you see high marks considering who we play against, but it really shouldn't be a consideration at all.
