Two important games coming up

Post by jurek » Sat Dec 07, 2019 8:46 pm

Newcastle at home and Bournemouth away.
(with Everton away and Man United to follow)

We need a minimum of 4 points from those games to stay clear of
the relegation zone.

Much less and we're likely to get pulled into a survival scrap.
Hopefully Westwood,Taylor and Barnes will be back for those which should help.
Hopefully we'll stay clear of any more injuries.

Will Dyche 'bite the bullet' and make a few changes?
Probably not. No doubt he'll want those three back and see.
Beyond that it will have to be pretty radical and I don't think Dyche does radical.

Burt we've been poor defensively the last 3 games or so, even more so in midfield and
not much better up front albeit we've played 2 of the best teams in the league.

We really could do with beating Newcastle and getting something down at Bournemouth
as can't see us getting much at Everton or against Man U.

Don’t know why you can accuse him of that. Sean’s been making changes in all the recent games. His choices are limited by player injuries.

Quite so.

Hopefully we'll get three or four back before the Geordies rock up at the Turf.

Newcastle have hit form in recent weeks and that'll be tough,Bournemouth are on a losing run and have injuries like us,but we do need to start picking up points ASAP.

I don't think many people expected much from City and Spurs, but it's the manner of the defeats that's worrying.

By and large this season we've done ok against the bottom half sides, but we desperately need the core of our 1st team fit,as the back-up players have been found wanting at this level.

We may well do,this season we're very Jekyll & Hyde, some convincing wins and some drubbings, but despite the up's and downs we're still in a reasonable position to survive,it'll likely only take another 6 wins to secure our PL berth for another season,Given that we have to play Bournemouth & Newcastle twice, plus Villa,Watford,Brighton & Sheff Utd at home it shouldn't be beyond us to reach 40 points, and looking at the league this season we may well need to be around that mark to guarantee our seat at the top table, yes we're on a 3 match losing streak, but we were on a 3 match losing streak prior to the West Ham and Watford games, and responded with two 3-0 victories, the reality is clubs like us and Bournemouth need their regular first-teamers fit,we both have lengthy injury lists and subsquently are both on poor runs, outwith the top 3 and perhaps Wolves no-one is putting together consistent results week in week out,and even Man City are vunerable to defeats, the derby loss was their 4th PL defeat this season, hence why the table is so congested,Sheff Utd are 9th and yet they only have a 4 point buffer to the danger zone.

Our fate will be determined by the cup finals against probable relegation rivals,16 of our 18 points have been earned against teams currently sitting below us in the league,a repeat in the 2nd half of the campaign and nicking an unexpected point or three elsewhere, which i'm sure we will, should be just enough to retain PL status,i know it's not glamorous to some posters, but that's the reality of our standing just now.

Did anyone actually think this (or any other) season was going to be easy?

Fans going into meltdown after losing to one of the top 6 clubs....amazing. Some people really need to be made of sterner stuff.

It's the manner of the defeats which annoys people.

Exactly most seasons in the PL will be a battle, yes we finished 7th a couple of years ago,but that was a freak season when the majority of our squad played out of their skins, our other non relegation campaigns in the top flight have resulted in 16th and 15th placed finishes, which more accurately shows our true level.
