Dwight must not be sold!
Dwight must not be sold!
Speculation about Crystal Palace (£20m haha) and MU wanting our star in January.
I think that will be all it is, newspapers looking for possible movement, in January, across the leagues.
However, should the board consider it, I would advise them to think again.
He is our only consistent creative player, sad to say.
Without him, relegation is certain.
Income £20-£40m
Loss £120m per season.
Reminds me when the board decided that we would not make the play offs (we were not that far away at the time) and wanted to 'save some money' by letting Glen Little (our star man) go out on loan to Reading. Saved ,£100k I recall.
The crowd lost heart and thousands disappeared overnight.
Cost...far more than the £100k 'saved' but not just once - for a long, long time.
Don't make people desert the club - Keep Dwight and build around him.

Like I said a few times, we stayed up last season due to him imo - if he leaves in Jan we'll go down.
The board would need to sell him for around 100 million.

Re: Dwight must not be sold!
Also. His value won't drop between now til the summer. It will go up rapidly if he were to make the England squad.
Re: Dwight must not be sold!
McNeil is priceless to us, if he went we'd never replace him with similar quality so we need to hold onto him for as long as we possibly can.
Re: Dwight must not be sold!
He won't go in January but he'll be sold for big money at some point in the very near future
Will we replace him when the time comes? Well if you believe all of the noises coming out from the club, we can no longer afford to buy players for starting 11, so probably not.

You have to look at it from the player's point of view and his career as well though, not just the clubs.
If United do indeed come in for him, then, as long as we get his full worth in the transfer fee, he'll be gone, and you can't really stand in his way if its such a big club.
Nor should we.

And in that case we agree to sell but he remains with us until the summer.

Yes, but Dwight needs to look at that carefully. Better being a big fish in a small pond at Burnley than spending the next few years sat on a bench somewhere. If he makes it that far.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 3:47 pmYou have to look at it from the player's point of view and his career as well though, not just the clubs.

Would be a big loss particularly his crosses and change of pace and direction. But chances of him leaving in January seem very remote.

He’ll be off in the summer at the latest...Dyche is very rarely as vocal about somebody leaving as he was yesterday. Unfortunately he is of top 6 level club now as was proven yesterday..

don't think he'll be wary about moving elsewhere and warming the bench, if he goes, he'll be a regular starter.

Dyche has been trying to sell him since he came into the team. Like a farmer with prized cattle.
We can then buy 5 players from Stoke and the dressing room banter will be sic.

Re: Dwight must not be sold!
No, he shouldn't be sold, he should be complemented by a decent midfield who can work together.
Re: Dwight must not be sold!
Or by training and playing with better players he's likely to improve even more? I'd love to see how good he could be with some better footballers around him.dougcollins wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 3:52 pmYes, but Dwight needs to look at that carefully. Re: Dwight must not be sold!
I'll be amazed if he is still with us next season regardless of what league we are in. One thing for sure is we wont sell him on the cheap unless he has a stupid clause in his contract.
On a completely different note, should we stay up and Norwich go down I'd like us to go for their young lad Cantwell

The only fly in that particular pot of ointment is that quite a few clubs will be in for him.
But yes, I'd have him tomorrow.
Re: Dwight must not be sold!
There's no way Dyche will be in for Cantwell. Far too much flair.
Re: Dwight must not be sold!
Too young for us. James McLean from Stoke is more realistic.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 4:15 pmI'll be amazed if he is still with us next season regardless of what league we are in. One thing for sure is we wont sell him on the cheap unless he has a stupid clause in his contract.

Sean has been praising the lad....recognising he is still very young, not the finished article but a player with huge potential.
That’s what any decent manager would do. I’m sure he wants to hold on to him for as long as possible.
It will be the player (and sadly his agent) who will decide when is the time to move on. Until then enjoy watching his performances.

He's good.... But not that good.£100 million? And £50 million bandied about for tarkowski on here is also wide of the mark.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 3:37 pmLike I said a few times, we stayed up last season due to him imo - if he leaves in Jan we'll go down.

I think he is worth more than 50mil to us, but if someone comes in with 30 this Jan.(or Summer for that matter) then I suspect he might be off.

Re: Dwight must not be sold!
If he goes for that he must have a clause in his contract. The board must be on something if they sold him for that, which in today's world, is a measly price. Got to be at the very very least £40 million and upwards and like I say - leave it until next summer and if he gets into the England squad, you can easily add £10 million onto that.
Hasn't he only recently signed an extended contract? So unless there is a stupidly low release clause, we can keep him until at least the summer.

Re: Dwight must not be sold!
Whatever fee Dwight ultimately goes for,we'd be wise to insert a sell-on clause,if he impresses at a top 6 club he could attract interest from the European big boys.
I still insist Leicester would be an ideal move at this stage of his career, they've got several young talents that they're developing, with a view to selling for big bucks, ala McGuire.

Re: Dwight must not be sold!
Or he could stay at Burnley in a relatively meagre salary in this market with lower quality players. He would never improve further by staying here.dougcollins wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 3:52 pmYes, but Dwight needs to look at that carefully. He goes with my full blessing when the time comes, you can’t deny the lad the opportunity to improve.

Re: Dwight must not be sold!
Let's be clear here....money and agents talk. Yes I would suggest a season or 2 more here with us would help improve him as a player and us as team however, his agent will already be talking to other clubs trying to broker a massive pay rise! Yes the sell on price has to be agreed, but we are Burnley and we will sell if anybody comes near 30M plus for him! That could also be the tipping point for SD to walk away! Just my thoughts mind.
Re: Dwight must not be sold!
No doubt there will be some form of release clause within the contract - just hope it's a bit higher than that for Trippier

Re: Dwight must not be sold!
If Dwight McNeil is sold in January then we will increase our chances of the drop massively. With nobody providing the crosses for the big lumps up front the goals could well dry up. We all know that he will move on to better things but no harm to hang on to our most precious talent until the summer.
The club will surely demand a high fee including a "premium" for their top asset, something they always refuse to pay expecting other clubs to sell their best players on the cheap. "Above our valuation" normally the line trotted out.

Re: Dwight must not be sold!
Feeling I got yesterday at 5-0 was that Dwight was playing to show what he could do.... for another club.
Yes, I hope he stays and I hope he continues to improve and I hope the Clarets get back to winning ways very quickly.
But....
