Who are our scouts and who are they watching?
Can I suggest an emergency letter from SD to refocus our scouting attention to central midfield Championship players who have natural pace and athleticism as two basic requirements.

Re: Who are our scouts and who are they watching?
The one everyone wanted this summer was quoted at £30m +, we don't that have that for one player - especially unproven at Premier League Level
Re: Who are our scouts and who are they watching?
I agree that pace is a problem both for and against us. I also agree with your point Mala, it really is where we should be shopping. Rigg will no doubt have an extensive data base of players, I really hope we have a number identified that we can attract.

To answer the OP, we have a lot of scouts at all levels working for Martin Hodge who is head of recruitment. Rightly though we do not sign players without them being the manager’s choice.

Stoke and West Brom seemingly.

Joe Allen would be a logical January signing. Stoke player or not

Thats hard to swallow... and as everyone knows.
One swallow does not a summer make....

Re: Who are our scouts and who are they watching?
And we are expected to remain at the top level doing this? This is going to be our ultimate downfall if we keep thinking like that. We got Vydra the season after he was amazing in the Championship, Dyche won't even use him for whatever reason. Gibson doesn't get a sniff. We must start looking at the PL or abroad if we want to move on because at the moment we are completely out of our depth against the big six when other teams are for the most part at least giving them a game.

And from a very good source he didnt want Vyrda either

I would rather we concentrate on players who will get better or playing at their peak.ZizkovClaret wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 12:30 pmJoe Allen would be a logical January signing. Stoke player or not
The older players Dyche has signed on the downward curve haven't worked out for us at all.
Lennon, Hart etc
Re: Who are our scouts and who are they watching?
my biggest problem with the recruitment is we tend to buy the same profile of player again and again...from the same source.

Because they are the only ones that fit SD's outdated tactic
I thought about saying tactics but that would have meant having a Plan B

I'm not sure if this is due to our financial limits, but he does seem to prefer people who will put a shift in, over someone who may not work to 100% every game, but simply has far more technical ability than we currently have.
IMO this is something we are severely lacking. More technical players.

We're waiting to see Stoke's retained list. (Our chief scout has a username on their fan's forum allegedly)

Re: Who are our scouts and who are they watching?
I’m sure there are players out there who could do a better job for us in midfield and at right back. Is it the rigidity of ‘ the Framework’ that is not working at the moment that determines who Dyche will have/play ? When was the last time we actually surprised the opposition with either tactics or individual skill ?
Re: Who are our scouts and who are they watching?
They’re watching tier 2 championship players. Players who would do an ok(?) job for us, run around a lot, but ultimately be playing at the absolute limit of their abilities.
Basically, they’re watching Preston.

SD and the board will surprise everybody in January when we sign Bowen and Eze

Re: Who are our scouts and who are they watching?
the only issue I have is we don't seem to (for the most part) aim at improving the starting eleven. We bring in decent squad players to "add to the competitiveness of the group" but from the outside looking in that doesn't seem to be particularly working. Taylor is an absolute shoe in, not much to choose between Bardsley or Lowton, Gibson and Vydra have been a complete waste of money etc. I'm not saying it's easy to sign players, far from it, but to me the approach to actually improving the starting 11 seems way off the mark.

Improve your starting 11, and you automatically improve the squad.
Buying players to add layers or depth isnt what's needed unless the player starting is all but dropable and you get either an up and coming star or a seasoned pro to step in , in the odd time needed.
We dont have any real undropable players , just a few that dont need upgrading.
You could argue we could and possibly should upgrade 5 or 6 regulars, and I'm not saying all at once, just 1 or 2 a season and you keep things fresh and keep improving year on year.
Sadly for the last 3 windows we've not signed a first team player, and a few have got comfortable in their roles eith what seems no real fear of being dropped
Re: Who are our scouts and who are they watching?
The sensible way for us to go would be to try and improve gradually, I.e by improving one position every summer. As you say we've allowed a situation to develop where we now need 2 or 3 players who are pretty much ready to walk into the starting XI for next season.MACCA wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 9:41 pmImprove your starting 11, and you automatically improve the squad.

Re: Who are our scouts and who are they watching?
Recruitment wise, we are really in a bad place now.
Our strategy was always to cherry pick the best of the Championship.
Now, Championship players are out of our price range.
Where do we go from here? Cherry pick from League One?

I'd actually be fine with this. He's very capable at PL level and still only 29.ZizkovClaret wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 12:30 pmJoe Allen would be a logical January signing. Stoke player or not
Wages would be the issue.

Maybe there's nothing wrong with us scouting players and we need to work better instead at scouting scouts.

Their Academy is a proper business now and their prospects are priced the same (if not more than) those in the Championship with actual competitive experience - without it City would never have made operating profits in recent seasons

Re: Who are our scouts and who are they watching?
I keep recommending German-based players to BFC. I recommended Grifo and Phillip but they ignored me. We could still possibly get both although Phillip is now playing in Russia. Grifo is back at SC Freiburg.
