Newcastle offer free half season tickets
In a bid to get attendances up with a boycott on.
For ST holders to give their friends or family.

Re: Newcastle offer free half season tickets
Best fans in the world the geordies, stand by their team through it all.
Re: Newcastle offer free half season tickets
Was the story of someone being bought a full season ticket but getting it as a Xmas present and thus missing half the season at Newcastle?
Re: Newcastle offer free half season tickets
He's a bad un is that Mike Ashley, stripped the club of all its assets, not invested in any players, gave them the lowest budget to get back to the premier league, once back up has spent one of the fewest amounts of any club, and now giving away upto 10,000 season tickets.
Another club doing nothing for its fans and trying to build its fans back up/get the next batch hooked.
Stupid idea if you ask me.

This is an odd one because I thought (obviously wrongly) that they pretty much had a full house for every game.

Sounds like a reasonable way to negate stay away fans. He might be a vile individual and the worst thing to happen to Newcastle United to some, but if he can attract a more sympathetic crowd... it makes sense for him to push on regardless.

11th in the Prem.. where do they reckon they'll be when Ashley goes? 7th or 8th? They could be there by the weekend.
Weird how he's 'killing the club', but they're pretty much where you'd expect them to be if things were going well.

But he has only spent 120m in the last 2 windows...
Get him out, he's stripping the club.
He's the definition of doing nothing to progress the club

Re: Newcastle offer free half season tickets
don't forget the £110m at no interest they owe him that - he will not take back until he sells the club - though ironically that is what is making it difficult to sell the club at the price he wants (which is the exact amount he has put into it) - which is not excessive given how much the value of football has increase in that time

Fancy someone who built up a huge business not wanting to pour money into a bottomless pit. Unbelievable Jeff

Re: Newcastle offer free half season tickets
I notice it's easier to boycott against Southampton than United or City. A bit like our neighbours.
Why not just say you can't be arsed going anymore. We didn't 'boycott' from 1976-92. We were just s**t and almost everybody found better things to do, unless we had a big game.

Re: Newcastle offer free half season tickets
Well spotted. You are right. And the Geordies haven't always been that well supported. I'm pretty certain (without checking) that sometime in the 80's or so they were getting gates in single figures.NottsClaret wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2019 2:19 pmI notice it's easier to boycott against Southampton than United or City. Or it could be that say xxx thousand are boycotting every match but you get more walk on's / casual supporters / football tourists for the bigger games so the boycotters impact is less felt even though their commitment doesn't wainNottsClaret wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2019 2:19 pmI notice it's easier to boycott against Southampton than United or City. Re: Newcastle offer free half season tickets
I think Kevin Keegan got it written in contract for bonuses for boosting the crowd.
They doubled overnight when he went there.

Re: Newcastle offer free half season tickets
Their lowest average was in 1980/81 when it was 16,001 over the season. The previous low before that was in 1901/2 when they finished 3rd in the First Division with an average of 14,450.

Cheers for that. I think the 16k season was when I saw gates of single figures occasionally.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2019 4:01 pmTheir lowest average was in 1980/81 when it was 16,001 over the season. Re: Newcastle offer free half season tickets
In the League Cup against Bury on Wednesday 27 August 1980 they had a crowd of 9,072 and won 3-2 but then lost the second leg and went out.
Their lowest League gate was on 11 April 1981 against Cambridge when they won 2-1 in front of 11,013.
They finished 11th in Division Two that season.

Throw in a Kevin Keegan wig and they'll go in no time.

Re: Newcastle offer free half season tickets
It's a hell of a jump from 16k to 50k isn't it? City averaged far more than that in the old 3rd (league one). They do seem a tad fickle.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2019 4:55 pmIn the League Cup against Bury on Wednesday 27 August 1980 they had a crowd of 9,072 and won 3-2 but then lost the second leg and went out.
