Only last week an old friend of my wife sent her this photo of when they met him on a school trip.

Used to be a silly urban myth about him having a full on fight with the legendary Blue Peter hardman Peter Purves though be classed with “ Bob Holness played sax on Baker St” level . I think he did have a row on BP but surely after the Purves years

For the same reason that the other, I believe, is Lenny Henry. (At any rate, it isn't David Bellamy!)

Why have people started posting pictures of other people when someone has died. To be honest I find it distasteful and certainly disrespectful.

I was sad to see he was a climate denier..........but loved his program as a kid. My favorite being when he picked a huge white grub off a tree, bit it in half, chewed it and said....mmmm not bad, nice nutty taste.RIP

One pic is Lenny Henry impersonating David Bellamy. Quite why the Brian Blessed pic has been posted I don’t know.

Saw him at the High Force hotel, Teesdale having a lunchtime pint or 2 whilst filming with a BBC crew. They had difficulty getting him back to work for the afternoon session!

I've been watching some old episodes of Arthur of the Britons recently and had actually forgotten Blessed was in it as Mark of Cornwall. Good actor but a bit 'loud'.

Bellamy was interesting to listen to. He was a patron of Encyclopedia Britannica when I worked for them 30 odd years ago and was privileged to see one of his lectures at a seminar. Extremely articulate, despite his speech impediment, and could have listened to him all day. Got to meet him afterwards and he was the most friendly chap. Sad to hear of his passing but 86 is a decent age and he definitely lived a life.

Not a climate change denier. Scientific opinion hadn't swung behind climate change in the late 80s. Many credible scientists/organisations thought we were heading for a mini ice age at the time! Probs reduced his credibility in the botany community but he got on message more or less when the rest of us did. Certainly led to him being eased out from the BBC when opinions changed. Great and infectiously enthusiastic presenter who inspired Packham etc. RIP.

Once interviewed him in the 1980s when rumours were flying round that a wallaby had been sighted on Todmorden cricket ground. I expected a quick brush off and a definite "no chance" but he actually agreed it could be a possibility because folks were keeping them as pets around that time and some had escaped from a place in Derbyshire. How the hell they would have got to Tod I don't know -- they hadn't restored the canal at that time or re-opened the Calder Valley line. National Express maybe?

Any road, he was a very pleasant fellow and I enjoyed our brief encounter. A life fulfilled and an inspiration to kids and adults alike over his many years.

These things do happen. We have a peacock that strolls around the village proud as you like. It scares the local cats. For some strange and unknown reason it has become known as Bernard and is now a local celebrity. No-one has a clue where he came from.
