I spoke to Paul Fletcher on Sunday. He told me he’d been to Spurs with Thomson, Waldron & Casper.

Thought it looked like Pete Jones who runs the Travel Centre but couldnt work out why you'd put his picture up on here.

Waldron never looks much different to me.

Flynny was coming out of Tesco just as I was going in. We spoke as we passed on the travelators. So I must have just missed them in the bus station.

Absolutely top blokes who seem to spend their time winding each other up. I assume chief wind up merchant Paul Fletcher would have been getting on the bus at Crawshawbooth.

I'm surprised Flynny could see over the travelator. :D

Some great Burnley servants there, always considered the half-back line of Dobson, Waldron & Thomson was almost as good as the legendary Adamson, Cummings & Miller. Not sure we've had anything close since.

Both Waldron and Thomson came from Chelsea but it took a while before Thomson became firmly established in the side. In fact probably not until the promotion season of '72/'73 and then that superb season in the top division in '73/'74.

Think he had his old platform shoes on. I’ve done him a disservice too, unlike the others he’d have had to pay on the bus.

Travelators in Tescos are invariably broken down Noticed the ones up to the second level were out of action this week.

Does Alan Stevenson have anything to do with that lot these days.

I recall the hotel golf story that I think he was a part of.

Has Casper shrunk? Can never forgive Waldron for not managing to bring down Macdonald in the FA Cup semi, despite hanging off his waist for what seemed like 10 minutes. Having said that you have to admire a guy who can run like an Olympic sprinter with a bloke hanging off him.

Apparently he is 'one for the future' and has to get 'Dyche fit' before he can play.

Alan Stevenson isn’t involved with them but I’d think Mick Doc, Geoff Nulty and Paul Fletcher would have been there last night as well. Peter Noble used to be with them and I know they were wonderful with him when he was ill.

Fletch & Casper were in town this morning doing a press interview so they must have recovered well.

I don’t think Frank was ever that tall to be honest.

Waldo will always say he had two options, grab him or take him out. He went for the first option but Macdonald was too quick and strong. He still blames James though for losing possession which caught him too far up the pitch.

Mc Donald relating the game and the 2 goals he scored.

Featured goal with Waldron trying to haul him down circa 58 seconds.

Agree with all the above. I remember two things vividly: screaming at Waldron to 'break his leg' when Superwhatshisname was bearing down on the Leppings Lane end goal, and actually crying on the coach steps after the game. I worked for a guy once, a geordie, who was at the game (it was about 30-odd years afterwards) and he said he still doesn't know how they won that game. He even admitted we would have given Liverpool a better game in the final, they were awful.

Newcastle were embarrassing in the final. We had a side then every bit as good as Liverpool but Newcastle were not a good side.

I always thought that Thomson and Collins would be our weak links in the top division. How wrong I was!

Can still remember looking over Colin Waldrons shoulder when he belted that cracker in at Deepdale in 73.

Still probably my favourite ever goal by a Clarets defender.

Great player.

Ah yes, what a non-event that was. I predicted a draw because we both needed a point. The last 20 minutes (or more was it) they just knocked the ball around in turns with neither side really trying to do anything. Wonderful day though with their 'kop' full of Burnley fans and then on the pitch after. Happy days.

From memory the largest percentage I would guess. The Preston end was just Claret. All I know is that for a local derby in those days it was remarkable for it's lack of trouble, at least I didn't see any. We were already promoted so it was a party whatever happened, we just needed a point to go up as champions over QPR. Preston needed a point to stay up. Good result for all concerned but as a spectacle it was a bit of a non-starter.

Easy more than half that gate ....like a dream now. The semi final against Newcastle seems fresher in the memory..well super mac running towards the burnley end did.. You just knew. He was a great striker!

Amazing turn out of Clarets that day. We were in the old kop end which is now the Shankly, but there were Clarets all round the ground. Amazing day, absolutely amazing end to what was always my favourite season.

Some very thoughtful friend of mine knew it was my favourite season and got me this

Looking at the photo again in the OP, it's remarkable to think that Frank Casper is now 75 years old. In fact, if anything, he looks the youngest of the ex-Burnley players in the photo whereas in fact the exact opposite is really the case.

Seems like only yesterday he arrived at the Turf as a fresh-faced 22 year old and scored on his debut in the league against Coventry. In fact he also scored on his debut in both the FA Cup and League Cup and was top scorer in each of his first two seasons with us. Some player was Frank and then of course later as manager.
