Re: Greta Thunberg
Christ if we all had the urgency she did about an issue that couldn't be more pressing than brexit, we might have a chance. The problem is, we can't see us plundering natural resources, the rainforests being decimated or the oceans being filled with plastic.
I urge you to look at this site for a second and the live figures it shows. It's terrifying.

While older generations have their blinkers on, she's at least trying to do something. What you (and I) should feel, is shame. That we're not making this as much a priority as she is. I have a one year old daughter, it's their world we're fuc*ing up not ours.

Reminds me of the girl in The Exorcist. Quite scary. Far too angry for someone at that age. Enjoy your childhood experience different things, explore more of the subject you are talking about, mature a little then start campaigning. It doesnt sound credible to me even though there is a media love in.

Re: Greta Thunberg
You've toned it down a bit from your first post, Blackrod, although I'm sure there's no need for you to be scared.
I'm intrigued by your assumption that she's not explored the issue sufficiently and she is neither mature or credible enough for your liking.
I think you'll find, in the interests of fairness, there also seems to be some kind of media hate in.

Spot on. Lots of the older generation would rather make stupid jokes and bully a young girl online than take the problem seriously.willsclarets wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2019 6:07 pmChrist if we all had the urgency she did about an issue that couldn't be more pressing than brexit, we might have a chance. Calm down love. Don't be getting all excited at me because you're being brainwashed by the foreign dark powers, hellbent on causing chaos in the successful part of the world.
Also, give me more than 4 minutes to reply before you go "proving yourself right" when I'm not online please.
Don't you have some rally to attend... off you go!

Re: Greta Thunberg
I'm my paymaster, I control my own destiny as much as I can. Don't you ?
I genuinely don't understand ; people might "expect" proof of what ? Let me know what you mean.
I'm aware it's a footy forum - weren't you when you posted on this thread ? Not sure what the "hague" or even the "Hague" has to do with anything but, again, a quick explanation would be helpful.
I'm no leftie but, like wills and others above, am far more concerned about the future of my kids and any grandchildren than any tribal politics.
I think this Greta kid isn't doing any harm, far from it. Any increase in awareness of climate change and so on has to be a good thing, surely to God ? If she upsets a few tired old blokes, even better.
Anyway, apologies for not giving you enough time earlier to come up with evidence of those dark forces you seem to fear so much, I'd not spotted you were offline.
Just pop it on here when you've found it - it should make interesting reading.
On the other hand, if this girl's alleged "dark" supporters are just a theory of yours then say so and we can all move on.
Cheers !

Perhaps the Russians and the Chinese are also causing the climate change to further their agenda.
Foreign dark forces. If you actually believe this, you need to be professionally assessed and given the psychiatric help required.
I think this young person is putting us, the older generations, to shame.

Fantastic advocate for her cause and she should be revered.
However and not just on here, although there are enough examples on here, people can’t help themselves to sniping and bullying, sad really.

Re: Greta Thunberg
That's illogical bullshit steve.
So you're only allowed to raise concerns over issues if you've got or had **** all in your life ? It's like the old Bob Geldof crap all over again..."What's he doing this LIve Aid thing for, he knows nowt about Africa and the starving."
Christ, if that's all her opponents have, this kid is heading for stardom.
And, while we're on the subject, come on, tarky lad, get a wriggle on with that evidence. It looked at one stage as though you knew what you were talking about. You're not yet another gobshite making stuff up, surely ?
Ready when you are.
Love.

I'm not middle aged, I'm 29 and centre left politically. I absolutely can't stand this girl or her speeches / rhetoric. She's whipping up a frenzy among young people on a issue that cannot yet be solved.
The problem is that contrary to popular opinion, the solutions to the climate crisis don't actually exist. There seems to be this narrative that big oil and other prevalent suppliers of energy are purposely stopping renewables because they want to protect profits. When you actually think about that, it's mental. Why would a company choose a very costly method or mining a source from the ground over something that's free...

With current technology, renewables can't be done.
If you want to rebuff my claims using facts of your own I welcome that. But simply to just write 'pathetic' is counterproductive for everyone. At least I've done the research to see if what's being made the narrative can have any impact on the crisis, it can't.

Taffy, you'd do well to read what he said. There was no denial of climate change, nor was there any 'sweeping away' of anything.
Just for balance, did you look at the Ted talk or are you already convinced that debate around the issue is now over ?

I haven't denied that there is a problem or that climate change exists. I have said there is no way to fix the problem through our current technology. That's very different.
If you'd bothered to watch the talk, you'd see that it's conducted by Michael Shellenberger, co-founder of Breakthrough Institute, dedicated to solving the climate crisis, former Time Heroes of the Environment winner, former Greenbook award winner.
This is the classic mark of the eco-warrior. Somebody suggests something other than what they think, so they resort to counterproductive name calling and refuse to engage in actual debate, because when it boils down to it, they have no idea what they're talking about.
Why? Because the reality is that we can't do anything, and that's scarier than some little girl screaming about the environment on our TVs.
