Post by Inchy » Thu Dec 12, 2019 10:45 pm

I am hoping for Angela Rayner. Soft left and female so will be more electable.

I truly hope momentum pi55 off

They have been more damaging to the Labour Party than Farage was to the tories

Nicola Sturgeon

SNP is being asked to take over Labour, so there is a proper leader!

Depends what happens. If normal people take control again, it could be anyone.

None of my business since I am not a supporter but not Rayner if they have any sense. She sounds thick as. That may not be fair or true. But she does. And it matters. Burnham would play well in many places. Starmer comes across as having some substance but may pay the price for having been Corbyn's bag nan for his most disastrous policy.

A mate of mine who has a box at Westminster reckons the deal is done to take Dyche as leader of the Labour Party.

Who would you replace him with?

Labour’s Brexit supporters who switched to vote for Boris, might have just voted for the privatisation of the NHS.

It could do with it to be honest. It is a shambles and clearly long term it is unsustainable due to red tape and advancement of medicine. To get a better health care those of us who can afford it should pay more towards it. With some form of NHS left behind for the poorest in society.

Actually if the exit polls prove to be correct this could signal the end of the Labour party. Their MP's had t3ge chance to get rid of Corbyn but they didn't have the balls to. . Serves them right.

She sounds like me. She’s northern. Nothing wrong with a northern accent. She’s more real life experience than all of the other leaders combined.

She’s soft left. She’s female. She’s normal. She’s relatable

The exit poll is not an exact science.

The predicted 368 seats for Boris & the Conservatives might be less....

....or it could be nearer to 400 seats.

Who cares? Momentum sniffed the air and they went for it and, by doing so, look to have completely f*cked the Labour Party. I hope this sends the message that Socialism/Communism/Marxism is dead but if it hasn’t, their future looks a rosy as a truck load of dead rats in a Tampax factory.

The country should take a look at how the health services are organised in Netherlands and Germany and one or two other European countries.

Cheeky suggestion: we do a free trade deal with EU - and let Netherlands and Germany run the UK health service. ;)

That would unite the leave and remainers.

EDIT: Oops, sorry, I forgot this was a thread about the next leader of the Labour party. Main criteria, someone who knows that Ralph Milliband was wrong. Yvette Cooper, maybe or maybe not. Andy Burnham - I like Andy, but Northern Powerhouse will need him for at least another 5 years. Jess Phillips, maybe - especially if she can strongly channel the memory of Jo Cox.

You sit in a small minority. Your thoughts , vote , opinions are in the shadows or behind a keyboard alias. We are the people the voice of the nation and the majority.

Now hopefully you and about 8 other goons on here who feel the need to be heard loudest , spouting the same boring hippy rhetoric will dissappear into the shadows where you belong.

One nation , one vote. Common sense has prevailed and your liberal utopia is not what we want . The country the people have spoken loudly. Maybe you should listen or sit quietly in the corner .

I honestly do not think it will make any difference. Foot, Miiliband and Kinnock have all been on the end of the rights ire. Labour have to be a watered down Tory party to ever stand a chance.

They need a centre left leader if they appoint anyone connected to Corbyn they will be finished as a party. Noticed David Milliband tweeted last night about the state of the Labour Party wonder if he’s preparing a return to Uk politics.

Angela Rayner is authentic and someone the traditional Labour vote who seem to have deserted in their droves, particularly in the North, could better relate to.

Given her background she has the potential to be the voice for some of the most vulnerable in society - who are going to need all the help they can get from somewhere.

I don't see Kier Starmer or a similar type candidate cutting it with the people who feel they've been completely cut adrift from what Labour used to mean to them.

The Labour party were declared dead in the Thatcher era but reports of their death were greatly exagerated. They will re-group and probably win the next election. This one was simply (and wrongly) about Brexit. Another 4/5 years of Tory cuts and privatisations will have soured things come then. Swings and roundabouts I think they call it.

Just a point to note by all the Conservative backers - when Brexit in whatever form is eventually, I repeat eventually achieved, the resulting state of the economy will all be down to the Conservatives. There can't be any referring back to the empty treasury myth or blame on Labour or any of the other parties, The government of the day will be the ones to take all the scrutiny and slogans on the side of a bus will pale into insignificance with the reality of the outcome.

The Labour Party will need a strong, coherent, pragmatic leader in the mould of Nicola Sturgeon.

Oh I'm sure Labour will re-group. But its going to be a long haul.

You mention cuts. When a country is left in financial dire straits as the Tories inherited can you suggest how to repair the damage? Increasing taxes wont wash as has been proven in this election result.

Yvette Cooper showed some balls, far too late, when Mr C first won. She might secure a base. However, it is probably a member of the left, who will be assassinated by the media, for years to come.
