I knew Tim very well around 9 years ago and even went to see him on the line at Wembley in a conference play off game.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2019 10:10 pmInfo on tomorrow's ref

I'm delighted to see him at this level.... Tim came through the Sussex academy where he was coached by Martin Bodenham.
Just hope he's developed a bit more empathy for the game. He never played at any decent level and was a school teacher.

He was absolutely appalling when he was last at the Turf and I've seen him have some very poor games on TV. Hope he has a good game but we are in a state when referees of his poor quality are getting Premier League games.turfytopper wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2019 11:40 pmI knew Tim very well around 9 years ago and even went to see him on the line at Wembley in a conference play off game.

I agree. The FA push kids through their academy schemes. They blow smoke up their bottoms in their assessments as they are desparate for them to succeed. I really think they should be recruiting players who have either not made the professional grade or players that have retired.

He was awful. He twice stopped the game when there were advantages.
He let them get away with murder and if Gayle had equalised after Joelintons foul on Pieters it would have been too much.
Edit: just noticed, on the sky short highlights. When Carroll put that early header wide he missed it cos he was concentrating on elbowing Bardsley.

Thought he was okayish. Couple of noticeably poor decisions, that one alluded to above on Pieters and particularly first half when he gave Carroll a free kick when he was fouled by Joelinton but I’ve seen far worse.

was let down by VAR too
Re: ARTICLE: Robinson gets Premier League debut for Newcastle game
I thought Carrol should have walked, he was doing his usual elbowing all afternoon. Robinson was clueless at times.

This is my main issue....
If our officials are ‘Elite List’ then why, oh why, are they being given Burnley Newcastle as their first game? You might argue, why not Burnley Newcastle, but it does seem as though we’re treated as fodder in this regard? I mean, I seriously doubt that Robinson would’ve been allocated Liverpool Arsenal or Tottenham Man City?

I heard Dyche making this point on the way back. It’s not on really. I know we’re not, but in theory there’s supposed to be 20 equal clubs with the same rules and regulations for all.jdrobbo wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 10:57 pmIf our officials are ‘Elite List’ then why, oh why, are they being given Burnley Newcastle as their first game? Testing out refs on ‘smaller’ teams is wrong. As Dyche said, to us it’s a big game. If he’s ready for the Prem, then he should be ready for any game in it.

Re: ARTICLE: Robinson gets Premier League debut for Newcastle game
He did fine.
We've got folk criticising him for being too lenient, and some criticising for being too whistle-happy. Truth was somewhere in between.
He erroneously gave us a corner, which Newcastle should then have defended better. The lino missed a blatant foul on Pieters, but that wasn't the refs fault. Carroll might have gone, but it was a 60/40 decision so lets not get too carried away. These are minor gripes and he did fine in the round.
That's why Bruce's attempt to deflect from Newcastle's inadequacies by placing the spotlight on the ref is particularly egregious. Bloke has a responsibility to respect officials, because they all have to start somewhere and we need them, plain and simple. That is part of the responsibility all managers have to look after the game, and to place so much pressure on him is just cheap from Bruce.

Thought he had a bad ten minutes in the second half which included the Carroll incident but other than that was ok.

Re: ARTICLE: Robinson gets Premier League debut for Newcastle game
I thought he was excellent. ‘He twice stopped the game when there were advantages.’ Over 90 minutes, there is nothing wrong with that. In split second decision making there will always be examples of human error. Could have easily carded Mee and Bardsley in the first half but just had quite words here and there. Switching from a goal kick to our match winning corner. Well at the time there seemed several seconds between the change of decision, I thought VAR might have had a quiet word in his ear. Or maybe the assistant but he was further away. Anyway it worked for me. If you nit pick it’s no wonder refs get such a hard time.

Also possession isn’t necessarily an advantage.
