Making parent and child deals/promises/bets **update, proud dad**

Post by MACCA » Sat Dec 14, 2019 7:55 am

Have you ever made a daddy promises you never thought would happen, then you wish you hadn't made it.

My daughter said to me she would start trainining to run the 5k in Oct with the target being to do the 5k park run before Xmas...
Me being me said
"If you do that, I'll run it with you"
She's been doing this at school, and has told her teachers of the deal too , so they'll be also their as spectators cheering them on.

She's just informed me at 07:00 this morning of my "promise" ( as that's what it supposedly was ) and the run is at 9:00 today.
I've not trained, I've not even run in about forever, and this is well out of my comfort zone.
Also my heavy intake of beer and pizza last night whilst home alone watching football and darts wasn't the ideal preparation my carcus requires. Quite possibly a cardiac arrest on the way.

Has anyone else done similar "promises" or deals with their kids and it's backfired?

FGS don’t try and keep up with her. In case you are competitive pray she just wants to finish, not win the thing.
Good luck.

Super proud dad moment!
She completed it without a single stop/walk, and it was so boggy and huge puddles in places.

That's a tough run for a first time, never mind a 10 year old girl.

I'm shattered.

Frickin' hell, not another minute's applause during a match............

If you hear the words, "Stand clear" you're in bother.

Well done on finishing, Macca.

You want to encourage your lass and yourself to do some more.

Well done, MACCA. Who knows, your 10 year old daughter might also have got you to the start of getting fit. Same again next week? Beat your BP?

Good luck.

And, running 5ks doesn't cost as much as some things you might have promised. ;)

I didnt register so didn't get a time.

We planning on doing it again in the new year, possibly to raise money for her school leaving prom and a charity.

Sadly think I'd have to do it doing/wearing something silly as it isnt that far for most people
