The HARDEST Shot in Football...

Post by Claret-On-A-T-Rex » Sat Dec 14, 2019 8:41 pm

I downloaded a new app for the ipad which is brilliant, using the camera you line it up with the posts and then it shows you where to put the ball. You place the ball and then it shows you where to stand to film the shot. Press ready, it counts down from 5, yoou shoot and then it analyses the video and tells you how fast it went and gives you a score :D :D

As many of you who have been following future Burnley Champion's Leage Winner, Vito - The Soccer Kid, he has an exceptionally hard shot which we call The THUNDERSMASHER©

We had a brief trial today and clocked a goal at 97km/h!!!

Here it is...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9_KIFx2Ne8

Not bad for a ten-year-old but he wants to break the World Record.

Does anybody know what the hardest shot is (or was) in km/h so we know what to aim for?

It was David Hirst at one time. Not sure if it still is. Vs Arsenal at Highbury. Almost snapped the bar!

What’s the app?

It might be something I could use as a bit of fun with my kids team

I’d thought it was Beckham. He had a thundrous one on Sky but he was only about 6yds out. Not sure at what point they time them.

And they are on youtube.

Beckham was further out than I recalled.

Peter Lorimer was widely thought to have the hardest shot at the time.

Certainly seemed to shift.

Lorimer won a competition, early 70s.
Early 60s it was Ted Phillips at Ipswich, dynamite.
The modern ball seems to travel forever, sometimes you could think it had helium in it.

Goalkeepers must be in with a chance. It is integral to their training and match play. Burnley might win!

In the sixties Gordon Harris had some powerful shots.

Another vote here for Frankie C Casper - the middle 'C' stood of course for 'cannonball'.

It didn't really - I just made that up - but you know what I mean. :)

The older Clarets will remember when we used to get a Football League Review with our matchday programme they once ran a hardest shot section for a while and I recall a Norwegian called Pers Lindstrom being credited with the title, don't think he was up to much as a footballer but he could kick a ball hard.

He did indeed. I remember reading in Bob Lords book "One day, the force of Harris's shooting will injure a goalkeeper."

Good player too, was GH.

Honourable mention to Robbie Blake's goal vs Manyoo - it was past the 'keeper before he dived.

Harder to blast the older footballs too, in the days of Lorimer & Casper.

Anyone remember that goal away at Carlisle United in about 1972 when Frank nearly broke the net from about 25 yards?

I think that was the hardest shot I have seen until Rodri's vs Burnley last Tuesday week.

I would agree with that. Casper had one of hardest shots I have seen from a Burnley player.

Maybe it’s a bit difficult comparing players from the past with present day players, considering the differences in the modern day football

I recall reading a magazine (or annual) article in the 60's about Stoke winger Harry Burrows who was reputed to have the hardest shot at one time....
