Perspective

Post by Tinribs » Sun Dec 15, 2019 8:48 am

Having seen ridiculous comments yesterday about so called fans “not renewing next season” and “hoofball”and all the other crap that’s been said over the last few years every time we have a winless run or a game with not many goalmouth incidents.thought it time to just jog some memories or even remind our younger fans of some of the stuff we had to sit through for thirty years or so to get where we are now.

If coming off the Turf after a 1-0 win over Newcastle to go 13th in the Hardest fought league in Europe makes you want to not Renew or stop going on the Turf. Then think back to these moments and give your head a wobble

A 6-0 home defeat to Hereford

Turning up at Stockport on a Friday night to see your new Scottish striker on loan because we couldn’t afford to buy him and it being Mark Caughey

Your centre of midfield being Billy Rodaway and Phil Malley

Being asked to donate money in a bucket so we could bid 30,000 for a new player

Seeing Joe Gallagher limping around on one leg and that was his fully fit but we had nobody else

Losing to Torquay !!! In a play off match

The last is endless, the lower divisions are awash with teams much bigger than ourselves who forgot who they were and where they come from and demanded more and ultimately paid the price
Stoke,Bradford,Charlton,Coventry,Sunderland,Blackburn,Bolton,etc etc

Appreciate and enjoy what you have now,it may not last forever but for the last Ten years we have been truly blessed as Fans.

Look at the table had we NOT spurned our chances against Palace and got a point or three-22 or 24 points, we would be 10th or 8th pending outcome of today's games

I love every win like it's a cup final and don't care in the least how we achieve it.Sure we all get down during a losing run but who among us can say we went home miserable last night?
Like a lot of others I've seen some very poor football at Turf Moor over the decades but yesterday, I'll take that all day long.
We can all moan but picture this:
We change manager and tactics and play some pretty passing football that's easy on the eye.We then proceed to lose to a side playing how we do now( maybe even managed by SD himself).Imagine our football purists on here then....

All good points. But the standard of our football is pretty poor.

I think it depends on whose standards you are comparing us to and also what is “the standard”
Is keeping a clean sheet and not allowing your opponents a shot on target for 90 minutes, the standard that all teams should be looking to achieve ?

I’ve obviously been watching us too long without understanding the concept of the game

We restricted our opponents to zero shots on goal, whilst creating some opportunities ourselves, scored a goal, in the wind & hail all whilst the opponents & ref were stopping play every 2mins and that’s a bad thing?

A genuinely enjoyed yesterday’s game it was a proper battle,in bad conditions and we came out on top Brilliant edge of the seat stuff for the last 20 minutes, competing for every tackle and loose ball like our lives depended on it.

Yesterday was tense and at least got us emotional.
It was such a big win, we didnt want to be going into the away double header on the same points we had after Watford away.

The style is irrelevant to the result in games like that, course it wasnt pretty but the weather and opposition style also contributed to that.

We will play a lot better than that and lose.

It's a big 2 windows coming up, and that will show what our intentions are in terms of a long term plan, and a style of play.
Itll be a pretty big change in terms of squad over the next 12 months in Burnley terms.

I’ve said this plenty of times before, it’s not all about pretty passing and scoring worldies. I love how disciplined we are in defence and in my opinion, that defensive display yesterday was great. Newcastle failed to get a shot on target. If our defenders succeed in doing that then that gives us a chance of getting the three points and that’s what happened yesterday. The conditions were awful and the goal came from a brilliant piece of set play. We won.

You're correct that the next couple of windows could see a major turnover in our squad.

The following are OOC in the summer.

Bardsley,Brady,Drinkwater,Hart,Hendrick,Legzdins,Lennon,Westwood.

I can see Bardsley,Hart,Legzdins & Lennon departing,Brady & Westwood we have the option of a further year,Westwood we'll clearly extend,Brady jury's still out,Drinkwater & Hendrick we'll have to make a decision on soon,DD has to show he wants to knuckle down and prove his worth,if he's not available for whatever reason he's no use to us,JH is a marmite figure on this forum, but if he choose to run his contract down how much would it cost to replace him.

Added to that Wells will be off,Vydra must be getting frustrated, and Gibson ditto.

So we could be looking at 6-8 players leaving next summer, and Cork & Westwood as our only CM'S.

Plus the vultures will be circling for Dwight no doubt.

So a lot of shopping for Sean to undertake in the coming months, and the squad could look radically different next term.
