Unresolved news stories from this Millennium so far...

Post by jdrobbo » Sun Dec 15, 2019 9:58 pm

I’m not sure why this came up this weekend, but yesterday morning I found myself discussing the unresolved death of Gareth Wyn Williams, the chap who was found zipped up inside a hold-all, in his London flat during the summer of 2010. Many thought it was a joke gone wrong, some claimed he’d possibly done it himself and there were reports of potential Russian involvement, but nothing ever seemed to come of it.

What other stories from the last couple of decades are we still waiting for follow-up on?

Charlie Austin's dodgy knees?
Six years on and he is still playing despite those knees, although
does his nose run faster than his legs?

It was actually " Lupus disseminata ", which is virtually unheard of Northern Europe, but Gaitskell had travelled to Russia in December 1962. He was admitted to hospital on 4th January 1963, and died two weeks later ... :?

Don't think so he had fulminant lupus that clobbered his kidneys and was fatal in those days but he would have been OK in most cases these days
I think the disseminata is usually confined to the skin and mainly the face hence lupus miliarsis disseminatus faciei.
Anyway twas the wolf and kidney failure.
I am old enough to recall Beachcomber in the Sunday Express-he was often writing on the political front and David Frost on TW3 of its follow up highlighted how often Beachcomber was wrong. In the early days of Gaitskell's illness Beachcomber proclaimed in the Express something like "Don't worry Hugh you will soon be back fighting the Tories"
Frost quoted all this and then, implying Beachcomber would get it wrong again, said something like "So sorry Hugh."
How prophetic and sad was that?
George Brown was favourite to be leader (he was deputy at the time and interim leader after Hugh died) but darling Harold won the election of Labour MP's.

Anne Sacoolas, the intelligence officer's wife who killed the teenage lad near RAF Croughton and was allowed to flee the country before the storm broke.
Will the new government pursue the case/investigation against her or let the lad's family - and themselves - be shafted by the Yanks ?
It all seems to have gone rather quiet.

It's on Sky Crime for anybody interested, but not one for the faint-hearted.

Given that Raab has been trying his hardest to shut it down I think they'll be hoping to brush it under the carpet.

Not a chance and we should make it clear that any future extraditions to the USA will not even be considered.

The decision to charge her came from the CPS. The decision to extradite will come from the foreign office.

I suspect there's a pretty good chance that we won't even apply to extradite her in order not to **** off the US.

The way the US are talking (that a possible prison sentence isn't a reasonable remedy for an "accident") I reckon they're angling to pay some hefty compensation to make the problem go away.
