Let’s take a socially sensitive issue. Offer it to a deep thinking artist who specialises (and has done for years) in painting monkeys and assume everyone will see the deeper meaning... not based on fact that we are all monkeys, which we’re not the line split at ape at best.... and see how avant guard we can be... what can possibly go wrong said apparently, no one.

Speak no evil looks a right sod, still nice they've found gainful employment since the demise of the PG Tips advertising campaigns.

Probably not the first image I’d be going with on an anti-racism campaign.

No the artist paints Chimps no has an issue with that it is the serie A officials that decided to use it without seeking advice - the artist did not offer it for the purpose

For a start, they aren't images of monkeys, they're images of chimpanzees. I'm not being a clever c.unt by pointing this out, I'll get to that in a minute. Secondly, the justification of the artist himself is that he intended to illustrate that we all came from monkeys and that there's no distinction - white, black, or Asian. Aside from the obvious absurdity in the choice of imagery to spearhead the campaign, this sheer, boneheaded ignorance is problematic because of the following reason: the racial logic that informs the views of a racist. In the minds of some racists, black people are legitimately and sincerely believed to be lesser evolved than white people, and further advancing in culture a flawed understanding of evolution - firstly the misunderstanding of the distinction between a monkey and a chimp, and secondly, as has already been stated, the misunderstanding that we evolved 'from' monkeys (chimpanzees), rather than, as it is scientifically understood, sharing a common ancestor - reaffirms in the mind of a racist the flawed understanding of evolution which underpins the beliefs of some racists that black people are of a lesser species. Racists see this lineage: Ape > African > White. The campaign will be rejected by racists, naturally, but the premise further calcifies their ignorance, thus doing more harm than good. It's jaw dropping at face value, but the fact they'd use this to promote anti-racism shows how much the Italians fundamentally misunderstand race.

That was lazy of me. I shouldn't have used the word 'Italians' loosely metonymically. Serie A officials and certain sections of supporters, to be precise.
