Leeds goalie Ted Burgin later moved to Rochdale. His first game was fogged off/abandoned, no-one told Ted and he had difficulty finding his way back to the Spotland dressing room! There were no buses and me and my brother had to walk home to Hollingworth Lake.

That’s a story and a half. I did once got to Bolton for a Sherpa Van match. We scored and none of us had a clue. It was abandoned at half time.

Still that lack of consistency in both results and performances. Decent as Billy White was as deputy, we certainly missed Jimmy Mac when he was unavailable. Note also that Billy Bremner was a scorer against our Reserve side on the same day, perhaps only 17 years old at that time.

Agreed Roy, we had a small squad in 59/60 who we relied on, Mac was irreplaceable, White, Ian Lawson and Ron Fenton were pale imitations.

Clearly was irreplaceable - begs the question as to whether we would have won the league had he been out even more often

To be fair none of White,Lawson or Fenton could be seen as replacements for Mac in the sense of what he offered the team. He was unique and always a hard act to follow.
I've mentioned on previous posts the quality that most teams appeared to have in their forward lines despite their league placings. For this game Leeds only had Chris Crowe(ex Villa?) that I've heard of.

I'd heard of three more. Wilbur Cush, I think, was a NI international with Jimmy Mac. There's also George Meek whose name seems to ring a bell. And then there was the Leeds number 5 who I'm sure you have heard of - Jack Charlton.

It was more No's 7-11. As a young boy I always looked at home international teams and who they played for. Wilbur Cush with Billy Bingham and Mc seemed to always be in the NI team. So did Peter McParland and the two Newcastle full backs, Dick Keith and Alf McMichael. Interestingly, ROI had a very weak line-up with most.of their players coming from the League of Ireland.

Five.........Blackburn (briefly), Tottenham (for the bulk of the season), Preston (briefly), Wolves (mid-April for two weeks), BURNLEY (very last day 2nd May 1960).

I recall that West Ham used.to play their midweek games on Monday nights so is that how they were top for.a.couple.of days?

Really intrigued with this now. West Ham did play and win their game on Monday 31st August that week as did Blackburn Rovers who therefore retained their place at the top of the table.

Interested to know, therefore, from CT exactly when West Ham were top of the table?

It’s been in the articles. Went top on 14th November and were top for two weeks before losing 7-0 at Sheffield Wednesday.

See post above. They did play midweek games on a Monday but they were top for two full weeks.
