Turf Moor was the most intimidating it's ever been.

Edward Lee's contribution in the official match day programme where the first letter of each paragraph spelt out B A S T A R D S.

The home game was one of my earlier match reports and I can still remember it word for word.
It read: “Burnley were beaten 2-0 at home today.”

After the match at home Yorkshire St was rammed with Burnley fans all facing t'Turf, hoping that the Bar Stewards would be released.
Well, up until the police waded in and moved the shenanigans up to the town centre that is.

Re: 2000/2001 the two Blackburn games
I doubt we'll ever recreate the atmosphere before the first game. I'd had glandular fever and not left the house for four weeks but dragged myself shivering to that game. Loads of people stood around waiting for their coaches, crazy inside on the concourses etc. I have a couple of B**tard mates who were in the CFS and still say it's the best game they've ever been to. They deserved the win to be fair, they had a really strong side at that level.
Seems nuts that they had that on the 4pm Super Sunday slot, didn't it follow Man Utd v Liverpool? Now we beat them whenever we play them it's not that painful a memory.

We used to park on the grassy bit neat Thursfield Street - for the first time - I could hear loud chanting coming from the stadium

Tried to push those two results to the darker recesses of my mind, tbh.

Simply the most excited Ive ever been for a football game in my life and at my age now I cant see that anything will ever beat it
I remember very little about the game itself apart from being well rough from Saturday night. Cant even remember where I sat and who I was on the game with but as others have said remember it being an atmosphere like no other

I once did a match preview in that style. I think my paragraphs started with the letters

I remember the coach trip back from Ewood. It seemed every single occupant of every single house between Ewood and the motorway had come out to give our coaches a cheery wave (or something like that). They were certainly smiling anyway.

I think the 5-0 game was technically an 11am kick off as the clocks went forward. And it was April Fool's Day.

Re: 2000/2001 the two Blackburn games
A great intimidating atmosphere at the Turf with a 4 o clock kick off. The games since haven't been a patch on this for atmosphere.
Yorkshire st being that busy you couldn't get down it until the horses charged. Getting pushed from pillar to post by the police telling us to go one way, only to be met with a wall of police forcing us back.
When some lads emptied the contents of a bottle bank near smacks and launched them at the police I took my chances running past the blockades.
The 5-0 away game was the worst game I've been to. Outclassed is an understatement.
At least I wasn't part of the 500 that went on the train and got marched to the ground from Rishton.

Pretty much my memory of the home game. Cant quite remember where I was or who I was with but will have been JHL with my brother.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2019 1:30 pmSimply the most excited Ive ever been for a football game in my life and at my age now I cant see that anything will ever beat it

Remember thinking we were good enough to do it despite knowing how superior they were. And vaguely remember the heartache when the second (Bents) goal went in.
The away leg was dreadful. We were awful that day and it was like watching a team of proper athletes against old men from a pub league. I was in the top tier sat behind my late teacher. He was beyond 'animated'. Top bloke and am still gutted that he witnessed that as he was a proper hardcore claret and never saw us play them again after that. One of my last memories of him. I was just glad that we were high up where they couldn't see us!
Was so disappointed in how we played. At least the home leg we showed fight.

Re: 2000/2001 the two Blackburn games
I was fuming with the team for a couple of days and then I watched the highlights show. The players were dripping with sweat, they gave all they had. It just wasn't anywhere near good enough against a very good Blackburn side.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2019 8:34 pmPretty much my memory of the home game. How they kept Dunn and Duff etc.. in the championship is beyond me. Must of cost them a fortune?

Re: 2000/2001 the two Blackburn games
This is my overriding memory of the away game too.
I can still see it vividly today. Looking out of the coach window to my right, and seeing all the occupants of every house along Bolton Road, hanging over their back fence giving us a wave to signify the scoreline.
I’ve never been, and I don’t think I will be again, so absolutely devastated after a game. The 1-1 with Dunn’s offside equaliser came close, along with Pedersen’s late winner in the cup, but at least we were competing with them, and the gap was closing.
But that 5-0 was just embarrassing beyond words. Simply woeful.
Re: 2000/2001 the two Blackburn games
The home game was surreal the first time I have actually felt sheer unadulterated hatred, it was a time to expel all the bragging the bstards had done because of the iron mongers money not because they were better then us. Steel sheets protecting them before game after game police on acid just pushing shoving and hitting you to move you away from the turf. Police van outside the Prinny almost turned over.
I had mates who are bstards fans there that day and they admitted they were nervous after the game.
The 5_0 well that was just the last bit of change dropping from the iron mongers shroud to buy the spoilt brats one last present.
Who's laughing now ?

Re: 2000/2001 the two Blackburn games
My main memory of the away game was our disallowed goal which had me thinking for a split second that we might force our way back into it.
Didn't we also have a player on in the 2nd half who could only run in a straight line due to an injury (Branch perhaps?) but we had used all our subs?
Then we were ferried to and from Ewood Park on some truly rickety buses which was a bit embarrasing
