We couldn't match Derby for their shithousery.....a sending off and seven bookings. Now that's class.
Still, another excellent smash'n'grab.

Love reading the other teams forum when we win. Rather have them bitching and whining than gloating. It's all about the points in a game like today's and we got all three.

What a bunch of tarts ! One old dodderer claimed after our performance he walked home proud they had the moral high ground...a club funded by allegedly very dodgy Russian money. Oh the irony.

I can’t believe anybody with one eye could think Barnes dived. He had an elbow smashed into his ear and it should have been a red card all day long.

I love how teams try to claim the moral high ground and conveniently forget to mention that they're only where they are due to somebody funding their very existence

I seem to recall half our team going flattened by their players and Barnes took the share for the other half of the team!

Quite like this post
“Well, part of me enjoyed today. Lots of niggle, lots to shout about, fans cared, players did some nice stuff and showed they cared.
Much rather that than walking away after some games thinking the players were happy on auto pilot collecting their pay cheques.
Hit with a sucker punch at the end. It’s what they do and it’s why Sean Dyche has a job.
We lacked decision making in the final third, especially the first half with the 4-3-3, Gosling and Lewis Cook were anonymous and King far too deep.
Created a bit more second half but was all a bit huff and puff.
Still happy to walk home taking the moral high ground and know I don’t have to watch that every week.
Fair play to the travelling fans, fair to say I wouldn’t spend the money watching that all over the country”

We didn’t like how Allardyce, Pulis and Warnock set up their teams either.
If I wasn’t a Burnley fan I would hate it too, but it is what it is, it’s effective and gets results and that’s it.

Exactly, I love the wins but you can’t say the footballs any good, they’ve payed to watch entertainment and it’s not pretty
Not arsed though really, it’s stopped me going as often but I understand to an extent why we play this way
Re: No One Likes Us.
Absolute muppets.
They are deluded and seem to believe the hype of the media about how attractive a footballing team they are - when they are simply not.
2nd least goals in the league.
More goals from set pieces than any other team.
4th in the division for yellow cards (we are 13th)
1 red card (we have none)
zero attempts on target today
£20m striker on bench who could not hit a barn door
£100k a week striker on the bench.
They might want to look at their own team before tearing into ours - sore fecking losers.

Well no, it’s about beating your opponent. Football is played without a crowd as well you know. Of course watching teams in the top division you hope to see a certain standard but the manager and players will be paid on results not entertainment.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2019 8:21 pmJesus Christ... really? That's it; the bonuses players get at the end of the season will be based on league position/points gained, there will be no bonus dependent on style points out of ten.Well no, it’s about beating your opponent. And, it must be said, that Bournemouth more than played their own part in today's "entertainment". Every time they got caught in possession they threw themselves to the ground to "win" a free kick. Gosling decided to cheat with a blatant dive. They tried passing out from the back but invariably their goalkeeper was forced to blast it up front. Rico and Lerma are about as bad and cynical as you can get. But, oh no, let's not mention this.

Re: No One Likes Us.
I remember Bournmouth doing the exact same things to us that they're complaining about when we played them at home in the season when we first went up under dyche. Game ended 1-1 and I remember being furious about it. Think the club paid for their coach travel that day so that their away support wouldn't look embarrasing for a change.
Anyway, we played to our strengths, rode out the game and smashed in a late winner. It's what we do and tbh i quite enjoy it. Better than playing nice, passing football and getting relegated everytime we manage to get in the premiership

At the end of the season, it’s all about how many points you got, not how you got the points. If it keeps us in the Prem long enough, we’ll get more money which will, hopefully, allow us to buy in more quality. At the moment it’s doing whatever we can to stay in this league and SD is becoming better at it.

I imagine any more moderate fans amongst the cherries are feeling a bit embarrassed about their complaints about barnes in particular. Clearly nothing in the high foot (more a low head), and clearly caught to the head by (at best) a thrashing arm from Billing.
If they had a case at all, it was that Tarkowski might have been a tad lucky to avoid a yellow for what ended up being a clumsy follow through on Fraser because the ball died in the wind. He did catch him with his arm, albeit with no intent.

Re: No One Likes Us.
I've left games countless times over many years where we've seen an entertaining game but lost. Conversation often turned to 'would love seeing us grind out a 1-0 win'. There's not a Burnley fan anywhere who didn't punch the air or shout 'get in' when they saw or heard Jay's goal. Just seen Sheff Wed. win towards the end of a dire game(they do occur elsewhere) and I believe it has put them up to 3rd in their league. Wonder if they are complaining?

Completely disagree about Tarks. The ball was there to win, he won it cleanly. Not only was it legal it was a centre half’s dream... get the ball cleanly and then clatter the attacker legally... I would have been pleased as punch if it had been me sending the forward to the deck in that situation... brilliant defensive play.claretspice wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2019 10:18 amI imagine any more moderate fans amongst the cherries are feeling a bit embarrassed about their complaints about barnes in particular. Re: No One Likes Us.
Since beating Man United at home on 2 November, Bournemouth have won only 1 match and lost 6 --the win being at Chelsea last week.
In both of their last two home games they have mustered only 3 shots in each game and had 0 on target --one of those games was against Liverpool and they only had 26% possession, however, the other one was against us when, in spite of having 65% possession, they again did not have a shot on target.
Their previous home game before that was against Wolves when they had 9 shots and only 2 on target in a 2-1 defeat.
In their last 11games they have scored 6 goals and conceded 13 and picked up 8 points, however, their fans seem to think that it is our fault!
How sad, never mind!

I understand that opinion but I think you can argue it either way in the modern game. Tarks does win the ball but he then goes through him and catches him with his arm. It was a bit Andy Carroll for me - but even if it might normally be a yellow the wind provided ample mitigation.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2019 2:59 pmCompletely disagree about Tarks. Absolutely nothing like Andy Carroll who jumped and swung his elbow. Quite rightly, Atkinson restarted the game with a throw in.claretspice wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2019 10:06 pmI understand that opinion but I think you can argue it either way in the modern game. How is watching sides pass back and fore in a horseshoe exciting?
Man city under somethings were on pub TV the other day doing just that despite being a goal down. 5 mins left and still doing it. Extra time and still no urgency. Completely numbing.
Some of the most exciting football comes from teams that play on the break right now. Buendia, St. Maximim, Zaha when he's not launching himself......

It was a good win but the “football” we are playing at the moment is dire stuff and not entertaining in the slightest.
In the long run it desperately needs to evolve to something more pleasing on the eye.

Re: No One Likes Us.
The football we are playing is nowhere near as bad as lots of our fans are claiming.
Yes, we are direct whereas lost of teams take 28 passes to get t he ball over the halfway line and then pass it back for another 28 passes to do it all again.
I was at Newcastle yesterday and in one phse of play they played 25 passes to get the ball from 10 yards inside their half to 10 yards inside the Palace half and then misplaced a pass and conceded a throw in.
Modern fans are becoming obsessed with possession etc., however, you look at teams like Bournemouth who average 46.45% possession this season but had 192 shots at goal and 62 have been on target.
Compare that to the Clarets who have averaged 39.62% possession and have had 176 shots with 66 on target.
In just two games this season we have had more possession than our opponents and those were Spurs away and Sheffield United away, both games that we lost, didn't score and conceded 8 goals!
We play to our strengths and this is what the manager has sorted out in order to win games and to stay in the PL. It is such a shame that many of our own fans just can't seem to realise that our method of play is anecessity with the tools that we have to hand!

Bournemouth fans were singing 'how do watch that crap every week' from the about 15 minutes in.
Only drowned out by Dyche shouting at his players all game at the top of his voice. I had to turn the tv down.

Apparently Man Utd have only won one game this season that they have had over 50% possession. Our game might be a case of giving the ball back on purpose to each other.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2019 11:12 pmThe football we are playing is nowhere near as bad as lots of our fans are claiming.

Re: No One Likes Us.
You speak for yourself and I have seen it all ways over the past 68 seasons! The game is going to the dogs anyway and we are all being conned about the Premier League ---it is a division of our football league which is getting softer and softer every week with expensive players not wanting to tackle etc. because their clubs have invested so much money and they don't want them injured. If they get the slightest contact they go down pole-axed, often holding their face when no contact has been made with their face. The more I think about it, the more I realise that we are not painful to watch at all because we are giving it 100% every game and I can't ask for more than that. We are a team ---many other sides are not!Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2019 11:20 pmThere’s a good hardcore 5-6k that are fine with it, but you can’t blame those that say ‘yeah, I love us winning but it’s a painful watch’ I know you all get your backs up about it but would the same folk moan about England who are trying to play entertaining football. We used to moan about Stoke, I honestly think we are on par, each to their own though
Edited because I forgot to add that you do not have to go and watch if you don't like it!

Re: No One Likes Us.
I was talking to a family of ST holders who missed the Newcastle game as the kids wanted to go and watch Padiham instead. It's a lot of money to folk out to be missing games because the kids are bored with the football on the Turf.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2019 11:20 pmThere’s a good hardcore 5-6k that are fine with it, but you can’t blame those that say ‘yeah, I love us winning but it’s a painful watch’ I know you all get your backs up about it but would the same folk moan about England who are trying to play entertaining football. ...and let's not forget the pounding the hand on the grass routine like they have suffered some major catastrophic injury that is physically unbearable when all they have is a slight bruise. If they get the slightest contact they go down pole-axed, often holding their face when no contact has been made with their face.

We probably mean that “you” used to moan about Stoke.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2019 11:20 pmThere’s a good hardcore 5-6k that are fine with it, but you can’t blame those that say ‘yeah, I love us winning but it’s a painful watch’ I know you all get your backs up about it but would the same folk moan about England who are trying to play entertaining football. Most Burnley fans I know were pretty envious that they spent so long in the Premier League whilst we sat in the championship.
As for your 5-6k number that really is laughable. You literally plucked a number out of the air based on absolutely nothing (other than that’s the number you would like it to be).
I’ve just done a small survey myself and extrapolated the numbers and I’m glad to inform everyone that all 21,000 fans are happy that we are enjoying our most successful period in more than 50 years.

Re: No One Likes Us.
I wasnt referring to the Mee/Carroll potential red card incident. I was referring to the way Carroll jumps normally, eg when he flattened Bardsley in heading for goal. Plenty of our fans wanted yellow cards and free kicks for those challenges.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2019 10:08 pmAbsolutely nothing like Andy Carroll who jumped and swung his elbow. Quite rightly, Atkinson restarted the game with a throw in.
At the end of he day I did say it was arguable. Tarks did win the ball clean as you like but he did catch him (unintentionally). Personally I think the ref got it right, but Bournemouth fans universally think it was a foul and I think sky's commentary team were a bit surprised that Atkinson didn't give a free kick.
I definitely think we have to be a bit careful with how much of an emphasis we put on physicality and aerial challenges of that nature. Unusually we've become if anything more robust, direct and physical during our four years in this league. Most teams go the other way and I've detected a noticeable increase in the amount of wingeing/complaining/noting/warning (depending on your point of view) from opposition players about our "style". Fair to say that rightly or wrongly, the tide of the game isn't really with us there.

Whilst I completely agree about the pleasure to be taken from watching a genuine team, I'm not sure the point about diving etc is especially relevant, or indeed the comparison between this era and the past (a topic in itself arguable either way).Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2019 11:30 pmYou speak for yourself and I have seen it all ways over the past 68 seasons! As I said on a couple of threads at the weekend, the statement that be should be careful what we wish for, and the statement that we should be careful of being too functional, are not mutually exclusive. There's a decent argument that we've become more direct and functional this year than at any time since promotion, and I'm of the view we have the players to get results whilst playing a slightly more refined, if not necessarily expansive, style - at least on occasions. On the pitch theres a danger we get into a rut of being too predictable and therefore easy to neutralise. Off it, we risk making ourselves a less attractive proposition to "soft" fans we need to attract and engage for the future of the club.
Like I say - it's a caution and not a criticism, and I wouldn't want us to rip up what we do. But Dyche has made substantially the same personnel play a more refined way two years ago, which suggests we dony need to.
