FA Cup
FA Cup
With the number of points we have on the board already theres no reason whatsoever for us not to have a go in the cup. I'd make 2 or 3 changes tops, give Jay a start and maybe Gibson, let JBG get some minutes under his belt as well. If we make wholesale changes we'll probably get beat.

Re: FA Cup
Expect a shockingly bad display and a third round exit it's the Dyche way you should know that by now.

Couldnt agree more. Cant see it though.
Favourable draw. At home. In a good place in the league. We should go all out to compete!

Re: FA Cup
If we are on around 30 pts before 4 Jan then it would be daft not to take it seriously.

Re: FA Cup
A million pounds a place in the PL counts for a lot more with our board and manager than trying to win a trophy. We'll try and get out of it as soon as we can.
Re: FA Cup
Problem with us making wholesale changes is that a lot of our fringe players have barely played for 6 months, it's no wonder we then look so rusty/disjointed.
Re: FA Cup
I'd be extremely surprised if we lost yo Peterborough, we have bodies coming back and players with a point to prove.
A favourable draw in round 4 and by then we could be all but safe and with some momentum to have a real cup push.
With CL starting back up, and those at the top and bottom prioritising the league, we could put some spark into the season and it'll lift the whole club/fans

I could be mistaken but is a place in Premier league worth more than winning the FA Cup? It's no wonder what Burnley are prioritising, wrong I know before people have a go.

Edit : 1 place in the league
Re: FA Cup
But if our place is all but secured come round 4 day, theres no reason not to have a go.1Simpleton wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2019 6:57 pmI could be mistaken but is a place in Premier league worth more than winning the FA Cup? Even if it's just to give them all minutes, and get the squad to peak fitness

Re: FA Cup
No. £2M per place plus £1M for every extra game televised (which might happen if you're higher up the league)
£6M for winning the Cup. If you win it.
Last year, if we'd dropped one point in the league, we'd have had to win the cup to offset the loss.

6m if you win it, but then theres all the TV money, and gate receipts so it would be nearer 10m+ I'd say.thatdberight wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2019 7:14 pmNo. £2M per place plus £1M for every extra game televised (which might happen if you're higher up the league)

Anyway regardless of premier league money, I'd say 99% of fans, players, manager and his staff and the board would take 14th and an FA Cup medal ( maybe even just a final ) over 10th and an extra 8m in the bank.

Re: FA Cup
Am I right in thinking that in the unlikely event of us winning the FA Cup, it gets you direct entry into the Europa League Group stage, and another Wembley date in the Community Shield ?

Re: FA Cup
I could be mistaken but didn’t football used to be about trying to win stuff? By which I mean trophies, rather than a few extra quid?1Simpleton wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2019 6:57 pmI could be mistaken but is a place in Premier league worth more than winning the FA Cup? Re: FA Cup
Sad to see the way some fans dreams have gone. I’d win the FA Cup and go down, I want to win trophy’s I’m not that bothered about the league, it’s all about enjoying days out with my mates.
Re: FA Cup
The second half of the season could be a bit dull if we bomb out of the cup early and we're virtually safe.

Peterborough must be delighted getting a bye.

Re: FA Cup
I think you'd struggle to get near £10M unless you played Man U and somebody else with a massive capacity away. Which would mean we wouldn't win it. But yes there's revenue on top of the prize. But, as an example, we'll barely make a penny on the Peterborough game.MACCA wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2019 7:38 pm6m if you win it, but then theres all the TV money, and gate receipts so it would be nearer 10m+ I'd say.

Portsmouth won away at Old Trafford the year they won it.thatdberight wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2019 8:42 pmI think you'd struggle to get near £10M unless you played Man U and somebody else with a massive capacity away. Wigan tubbed Everton away the year they beat City in the final.
So its possible to win those games if you want to.
But we have a great chance to win it without even playing them!
At least one of each of the following are going out and we have a good home draw:
Wolves Man Utd
Liverpool Everton
Villa, Norwich and Watford will probably throw their games.
Lots of lower league sides will definitely be going through to the next round too.

Re: FA Cup
It's bizarre that people would rather finish a few places higher in the league than win silverware, even the board's attitude is weird, surely a domestic cup win would put BFC on the map,in a way that securing PL status year after year can't.
I don't believe the players don't want to compete for cups, but it seems to be an afterthought by the powers that be.

Re: FA Cup
I always imagine the FA Cup to be this great tradition of English football.
But then when I think about all the recent wins, I couldn't give less of a toss. That's how it would be if we won it. No one would care.
