Liverpool vs Flamengo
I wonder if we could get one of these Flamengos in January! Some very good technical players.

Their player down the left was running rings around Trent Alexander-Arnold in the first half.

Another big game ruined by a clown for a ref. I’m not even sure he knows the laws.

Re: Liverpool vs Flamengo
Maybe it’s because I’ve had a few beers but not really sure what’s just gone on with that last minute penalty VAR decision. I thought the VAR referral was to check whether it was inside or outside the area but then the decision got overturned altogether. Looked a stonewall foul to me.

Free kick for me but a tough decision for the ref and VAR.

To me it looked like a FK just outside the box, and that would have followed with a red card.

Re: Liverpool vs Flamengo
the tackle definitely affected the strike whether it was inside or outside the area.
but if even with the benefit of hindsight the ref can't recognise this what is var for?
if i was in charge i'd scrap it tomorrow and tell all the big jessies to deal with it.

Re: Liverpool vs Flamengo
Absolutely no way it was a penalty ..,He got his kick away well before and then he wasn't touched and dived .should have booked him..
Re: Liverpool vs Flamengo
According to offside, VAR will take into account even a toe of a player and Mane's toe at least was in the box as the foul took place, should have been a penalty and a sending off.
His kicking foot was nobbled for sure.

Not a bad week for the red half of Merseyside, they collect the World Club title, and their PL lead is still 10 points.
On balance they just about deserved the win, ironic it was a brazilian who netted the winners in both games.

if that so called competition had been going on any where near 127 years and had any real provenance whatsoever then maybe.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2019 8:18 pmIt's true, however.

Re: Liverpool vs Flamengo
it is certainly not a matter of opinion of how long that competition has been going.
and as for provenance you probably buy into the crap that the premier league is more important than the old first division.
modern football is rubbish but the modern football fan is worse.

Some interesting and rather lazy assumptions there, yTib.yTib wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2019 8:30 pmit is certainly not a matter of opinion of how long that competition has been going.

Firstly, I've commented several times that our survival in the Prem is important to me but not the be all and end all. I first watched BFC in 1966 so have watched, enjoyed and valued far more games from the the old First Division than the Premier League and, like you, realise - but have to accept - the shallowness of the latter.
Secondly, how long the Club Championship has been competed for is not a matter of opinion, you're right, but you seem to question the statement Lineker made. Liverpool have been established for 127 years and, until now, had not won the Club Championship since its inception.
What its value is is up to the individual but I don't blame them for pursuing the only trophy that has eluded them and for equalling Manyoo's winning record in the comp.

Re: Liverpool vs Flamengo
sorry to interrupt the liverpool love in boys but...
if it was the first year of this mickey mouse competition and it was compared to the entire history of liverpool fc it would be completely bonkers. as it has been going for a while now, in various formats and with various names, it seems slightly less silly, but silly nonetheless.
i can only assume gary lineker has been encouraged to embellish the importance of this tea-party example of football by the bbc as part of their desperate attempt to rescue their reputation as a serious platform for elite sport.
and vegas, you mistake my disappointment for cynicism. an easy mistake to make.

Re: Liverpool vs Flamengo
Leicester Lineker was taking the p**s i.e. it's only the little clubs that get the 'for the first time in their history' stuff and that was the chance to baby-fy Liverpool.

Liverpool clearly didn’t take it as a joke competition but it doesn’t matter because some random loser on here says so. You aren’t forced to watch it yet chose to do so then moan about it, what is wrong with people?
