That Charlie Taylor Stat

You might have seen this already but this is well worth a little thread of its own.

It's an amazing stat and shows how much he's progressed.

Neither will it last forever - we'll concede with him in the side at some point but it's a real credit to him and shows how good he is. He ought to be pushing for selection to the England squad in the near future.

This guy has the potential to be one of our greatest ever left backs.

It's like watching Luke Shaw with a brain transplant.

I think hes solid. And reliable. But best ever is really pushing it imo. Still not a patch on Stephen Ward, never mind Les Thompson and Joe Jakub.

Ben Chilwell is 1st choice when available, but after that you're looking at Danny Rose and Luke Shaw, are they really any better than Charlie on current form, probably not but they play for big city clubs.

Rose has effectively been frozen out at Spurs, not that I rate him anyway. A fit Luke Shaw is still Englands best left back for me though.

Taylor is a great asset. If he can stay fit he can certainly become another Burnley international.

Excellent full back and getting better all the time. His pace and athleticism are really key and we offer far more offensively when he plays.

Now we just need to find a right footed Charlie Taylor to play on the other side....

Chilwell is Englands best. Taylor is better than Rose or Shaw, both of whom have gone backwards. Rose cos his head is in a weird place and Shaw has never got back to his best after his horrible injury.

City took him apart yesterday.
They played De Bruyne where a tucked in left back plays and Mahrez further wide of him on the right to double up on him.

He didn't know whether to stick or twist.

I'm not saying any other left back would do better like.

“A fit Luke Shaw”
I think your iPhone might have changed the a to an i.

Luke Shaw has not been the best left back in the country for 5 years now. Charlie Taylor is genuinely a better play than him now.

Ian Brennan was an excellent attacking left back and I think that he would have fitted into the modern game well. He also had, as many will remember, a thunderous shot and scored several spectacular goals for us.

He's progressing really well. Thought he lacked a bit of nous in his first season.

Needs one or two more full season's min at this level to be considered better than Stephen Ward in my view.

But I think he will deliver that, which is grand.

This was pointed out on MoD. However you would expect some sort of support from the Leicester equivalent of McNeil - was that Barnes - which was not pointed out on MoD?

I didn’t see really anything of Alex Elder other than go to his testimonial

Keith Newton to me was the best left back full back I have seen

I had a soft spot for Andy Wharton simply because he was a Burnley fan and THAT promotion.

Stephen Ward is the best we’ve had in the “ modern era”

Charlie Taylor has tremendous potential and is much better than Pieters

Not many will be familiar with that name, Bullabill.

Mather was a more than decent left-back for us and made 329 appearances but strangely never scored. Alex Elder played just one game more at 330 and scored 17 times. Much as I rated Elder, for me Keith Newton was the master of that position and one of my all-time favourite Clarets.

I used to sit in the posh seats in the Bob Lord mid 90s when I worked in the bar - easy to get back just before half and full time to open up. The was an old boy called Fred who used to sit in front of me and one game our left full back put in a half hearted tackle on a winger. The usually placid Fred stands up and shouts 'bloody rubbish, Harold Mather would have had him over t'running track by now'. That was my introduction to the name.

Keith Newton was,a great left back for us and I hope I am right here, but his time at Rovers was at right back and I definitely recall him playing at RB for England in the 1970 qf in Mexico. So all round not bad.....

It may be of interest to some that it’s well known in these parts (Tad Grammar school) that, whilst Charlie is Leeds through & through, he absolutely loves being at BFC. UTC

The main difference between Charlie Taylor when he first signed and now is his fitness. I always thought he looked a tad leggy, and not really having the physique of a Premier league full-back.

However over the last year especially, it is clear that whoever has worked with him on his conditioning and overall fitness has done their job, as he now seems to have boundless energy down the flank. The improvement has been dramatic.

We just need a right back to compliment him now.

Best to post this with the protection of my tin hat.....

Taylor has improved more than any other player under Dyche’s tenure and tbh I don’t think there is a player who has not improved under Dyche (notwithstanding the players we don’t see regularly such as Vydra and Gibson for example) so this highlights how far he has come from the games at Wolves and Cardiff last season, for example.

His fitness as highlighted above is one thing to get much better but the main improvement has been his defensive distances, coverage and speed. He can still improve further in terms of his delivery and, for me, he often fails to deliver a ball in when he should (there was a good example early in the game at Bournemouth when he should have put a ball in but didn’t).

Chilwell is a much better player currently but Taylor can still improve...

Pretty sure Ward had a similar stat when we were relegated from the prem and we were wondering why he wasn't starting too? Might be wrong, seems like eons ago!
There is no doubting Taylor is the better out of him and Pieters and still developing. With the likes of Shaw, Rose all having injury problems and ageing he could still end up in the england set up yet.

You are right, that Ward was both a better defender and all round contributor to the claret cause and he scored that belter at Chelsea. He has been difficult to replace.
