EVERTON game?

Post by redwasp » Mon Dec 23, 2019 5:21 pm

Will this be a good time to play them?. Ferguson had given them a bit of impetus now this new guy has come in and started working with them today. Will he be wanting to change things around using formations and tactics they are not used to or keep things the same 'til he finds out more about the players?. Playing against us and our "style" is probably not what he would have wanted for his first game.

I don't know, teams generally raise their game for their first game under a new manager, particularly at home.

A must win for Everton. Nice bonus for us if we get a positive result. All the pressure on them.

They will have an off day, we won't play well (the usual sh!te) and we will be victorious 1-2. :)

You heard it here first.

I reckon the crowd will be up for it early doors, attracting a manager with Ancelotti's CV is a big thing for them. Need to keep it tight early on, if we go behind early could be a long afternoon.

Ancelotti (and Fergie) will have them fired up no doubt. But theyre still the same squad. Iwobi, Lewin amd plenty of others are nowhere near hood enough for an Ancelotti side...

We have a chance.

Ancelotti is a v good manager. He will have studied our game plan and adapted accordingly. I wonder what changes we will make or surprises we will bring to the party ?

funny team, should be up challenging 6 or 7 and Europe yet seems to struggle continually, fail to play as a team, MK certainly not the player for them that he appeared to be for us, how he gets in the England set up before Tarks & Mee is beyond me, suppose that's why I'm not a football manager.

Hopefully far better than last year, BFC should be looking for payback, what a difference a year can make :)

i agree, good point. and the fact that some of them may well get binned asap, will cause more problems for them as a team because of it. Burnley win as a result.

Iwobi pulled his hamstring I think in their last game - which probably makes Everton stronger !
Should be a right game - hopefully we can take advantage of their nervousness / weight of expectations and the pressure is all on them not us.
Not sure about the appointment to be honest. Ancelotti not used to taking on a team in Everton’s current situation.

3-1 everton sadly. Burnley score first, all looks well for us, 3 second half goals for them after a new manager rollicking.

Strange club for Ancellotti to get involved with but just shows the pulling power of money.

He will know they aren't winning anything with that squad so it will be outrageous spending to match his outrageous salary.

A top manager is a top manager. And while its some time ago. He did a great job at Reggiana and wasnt too bad at Parma. And lets not forget his Milan side. Obviously one of the best squads of players ever. But the average age was probably higher than ours now.
A top manager (in the main) has managed the top clubs on merit.

They'll no doubt be up for it but the longer we hold on
without them scoring then things could change and, if per chance
we manage to score first then it could be very interesting.

Another 'backs to the wall' 1-0 would keep me happy
and put us another 10 or so points from safety.

Don't think many could have thought that earlier in the season.

Having said that we'll probably lose 4-0 and the jitters will
reappear from the wood work.

They are capable of playing well with people like Richarlson, Sigurdsson and Digne in the side but there are a fair few very average squad members and, if the few stars fail to ignite, are beatable at home (as Norwich found). I can see us frustrating them and getting a 1-1 but there's a chance they might have one of their good days if we dont get on top of the job.
They're pretty big favourites with the bookies @ 4/6 us at 4/1. I'm tempted to have half a crown on the draw at 11/4

Never said he wasn’t a top manager. I remember him as a player and he was a leader on the pitch and always a manager in the making.
However it does not mean he is going to do well at every club he goes to - as has been proven.
Recently he’s been used to managing champions league teams and the best teams in their respective leagues - and everything that comes with that.
Maybe he was after a project like Everton clearly is - or maybe he was more tempted by the salary and contract he was offered which amazingly is probably a match for anything he has got at Bayern, Madrid etc.
Not sure how close Everton are to breaching Financial Fair Play regs but they have the 6th or 7th highest wage bill in the Premier league and with their low attendances nowhere near the top 6 in terms of revenue. They have spent a fortune in the transfer market and have a hell of a lot of deadwood on their books still earning big salaries.
They brought in a director of football who was tasked with slashing £40m off their wage bill - he’s achieved a fraction of this so far and the club has just added another £10m a year appointing Ancelotti (plus his back room staff on top)

Spurs have a similar wage bill to Everton - but now have a very different revenue model to Everton with their new stadium. They also have had regular champions league money recently.

Everton desperately need that new stadium or they are going to be in big trouble - and I’m guessing they can’t even imagine what would happen if they went down (which is I admit pretty unlikely).

If it does not work out for Ancelotti - then that’s another £40m down the drain paying up his contract - to add to the £15m or so they wasted on Silva....and the tens of millions it cost to pay off Allardyce and Koeman.

The 0-5 at Spurs could be this seasons 1-5 against Everton.
They’ll come flying out of the blocks but they are basically a very average to poor side.
Can’t see us losing.

Don't disagree with a lot of that. Fans wanting Allerdyce out was laughable. Not to mention Koeman who actually showed lots of promise and is obviously a 'name'.

Their fans do seem to have unrealistically high demands. (That said the few I know are all pretty grounded).

Spending lots of money adds more expectations to the job but the players had stopped playing for Koeman.
They simply didn't want to watch Big Sam's type of football and wouldn't settle for Dyche's either.

It doesn't help with Liverpool winning all these trophies.

You can see the balance changing when this new stadium comes. Liverpool fans are going mad and trying to block it. Very salty.

See the balance changing with Liverpool ?
Not a chance - Liverpool are light years ahead of Everton on and off the pitch...it will take a lot more than a new stadium to catch them up - especially when the capacity of the new ground is still less than Liverpool’s current capacity,

I don't mean swapping over. Although the gap is smaller than the one between Blackburn and us in the 90s and look what happened there.
Both teams will be competing for 3rd-6th within a couple of years.

We’ll see.
It will need quite a fall from grace from Liverpool who have been 1st or 2nd and 20 or 30 points ahead of 3rd place for the last 2 years.
Everton were talking about being top 6 this season. Even if they achieve that next year they will still probably be nearer to the bottom of the league in points than to Liverpool...based on the last couple of years domination of City and Liverpool.
As we stand now not one Everton player would get in the Liverpool team and other than the reserve keeper all of Liverpool’s bench would walk into Everton’s first eleven.

Leicester have shown it's possible to challenge the top 4 with good planning and being shrewd in the transfer market. Apart from Tielemans I don't think you could say they've spent big money on anyone really.
As for Koeman it was a bit of a strange one. He'd started well at Everton and has gone on to do a good job with the Dutch national team. Just had a nightmare spell where the players seemed to stop playing for him.

I don’t disagree that Leicester have recruited well and relatively speaking haven’t spent a load of money. But would they be challenging the top four without Jamie Vardy who is paid an enormous £140,000 per week? The wages of their top players blow ours out of the water.

Fair play to them, they’re having a great season. But challenging the top four isn’t a viable aim for a club like us. Especially when you bear in mind that the Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea, Manchester United and Everton are all unusually in periods of relative ‘crisis’ which won’t last forever.

I was talking about Everton. With their finances and potential new stadium I don't see why they can't aim for the top 4, particularly now they've got a top class manager.

Liverpool are flying and to do it all season is a hard task. To do it over 4 or 5 years is impossible.

For Everton to do well you need to appoint a manager that can sign players of top calibre. (I remember Jack Walker saying he had to get Dalglish in to attract players to Blackburn) and Ancellotti has that in spades, his phone book will have more stars than the milky way.

They also need someone not scared to take on Liverpool, and his record with Napoli shows he won't just roll over.

In my experience, Boxing Day is a very good day to be playing us. Statistics might prove me wrong, but I certainly remember a large number of abysmal Burnley performances on Boxing Day, and some miserable journeys back from places like Barnsley. The fans always turn up in great heart on Boxing Day, but the team have often failed to turn up.
It has been better recently though I think.

They've spent plenty.

Perez - £30m
Iheanacho - £25m
Slimani - £29m
Adrien Silva - £22.5m

Plus £12.5m on a reserve goalkeeper.

He didn’t take Bayern forward

I agree he has been a good manager but by no means given his recent appointments is he guaranteed to be a success at Everton and personally I think it’s a big risk for them.

If he is going to get his big black book of players out to call then he is very unlikely to have Champions League football to offer them. He’s already made a reference to giving Zlatan a call - brilliant player but at his age and on the £250k a week he’ll demand another big risk.
Clearly Ancelotti will be given a sizeable transfer budget which means the job their current sporting director is struggling with in getting rid of £40m of wages is gonna get a hell of a lot harder as presumably a lot of the first team squad will now be surplus.
Have a look at the players Everton currently have on their books - many earning £100k a week plus - and you’ll see for yourself the extent of their problems.
If the owner is prepared to do what the Man City owners have done and spend half a billion on players and fund ridiculous sponsorship schemes to try and get round financial fair play then they might have a chance of bridging the gulf between them and Liverpool. They’ve got no chance of doing it in the way Liverpool have though.

Hope it all goes pear shaped for them personally - we’ll have Keane back when they start dumping their first team players !

Iheanacho - £25m
Slimani - £29m
Adrien Silva - £22.5m

Plus £12.5m on a reserve goalkeeper.
I wouldn't say that's massive money these days. A lot of their current starting XI were signed for next to nothing. Vardy, Maddison and both centre backs cost less than 50 million between them I bet.

We have probably paid 5m in wages alone for our reserve keeper.

The rest are all post title win which they will have earnt plenty of money from.

In the main theyve recruited well. Vardy, Evans, Schmeichael, Maddison, Morgan have all been very shrewd signings. Tielemens cost a few quid but worth every penny. Perez has also been excellent for them so cant criticise that signing.

Slimani, Silva and Ihenacho have cost not that much more than Gibson, Vydra, Brady and Defour.

Evans was 3.5m. I wanted us to sign him when they did excellent player and a bargain at 3.5m

Just read the BBC Burnley match page and they point out we committed 21 fouls and picked up " 6 yellow cards " against Bournmouth. Must not let the truth get in the way of making out we are a dirty side even though we are in the top 5 in the fair play league

Evans was nearing end of his contract and almost signed for Man City and Arsenal. He was after (and no doubt got) £100k a week and a decent length contract given his age. We had zero chance of getting him.

Perez not been excellent according to Leicester fans. He’s also been on the bench a fair bit.
Leicester also signed Musa for £17m who hardly played. So those 4 players cost £100m. The 4 you mention for us were less than £50m and Brady alone probably played more games than the 4 Leicester players put together. The wages of the Leicester players will be miles higher than ours too.

I agree Leicester have made some good signings though but their owners have far deeper pockets than ours and their total wage is 50% higher than ours and they can subsidise big losses at the club.

Chilwell and Harvey Barnes come through their youth system as well. Makes a massive difference if you can produce the odd player yourself, similar to us with McNeil.

"Ferguson had given them a bit of impetus now this new guy has come in"

Sorry but this "new guy" made me laugh.

The 0-5 at Spurs could be this seasons 1-5 against Everton.
They’ll come flying out of the blocks but they are basically a very average to poor side.
Can’t see us losing.
I like your optimism Trevor, When did we last score 5 though? Unless we've secretly signed De Bruyne in the last week. :)

But he didn't suggest that we would score 5, or even 4 or 3.He just said he didn't think we'd lose.
1-0 will do, and that's not all that optimistic, though I'd be delighted with an away point.

I was feeling all positive then you had to go and bring up the Barnsley game

100k a week x 156 weeks = £15m for a multiple premier league winning international captain

Gibson = 18m PLUS wages
