Burnley pub tea recommendations?

Hi all,

Anyone got any recommendations for a pub tea that will have vegetarian options in or around Burnley that could go to before game on Saturday night.

We're driving from with a hire car from York so outside Burnley is alright too.

I'd give the Turf hotel a wide berth. The cellar at padiham is very nice for Good English Food.... coming from York fish and chips in Skipton's Bizzie lizzies is quality as is the one in Knaresbrough square....near York.

Griffin head at huncoat is 10 out of 10 quality and good beer choice too.

Not had a bad meal at Barley mow and cracking pub in a great setting.

Kettledrums good too.

Failing that. Crooked billet worsthorne. Pie and peas 3 quid.

Best by a full furlong is The Freenasons at Wiswell with former Northcote chef Steve Smith.
The Griffins head does a great fillet steak.

Budget big plate and ok food maybe Walton Arms at Altham.

Depends how much your wanting to spend.

It's the 'we' bit that most concerns me. Where were they, the we, when it was clearly failing? To get a Zero is grim and it doesn't just happen overnight. It's good that they took immediate action, but someone had clearly had taken their eye off the game. I hope they can consistently get it right. It's not a bad place when its on form.

I saw that online. And was shocked. But not sure its true. It was fake news allegedly.
Was going to caveat my post with that info but thought it would put off before hes sampled it.

Edit. Apparently it is true. Must admit im very very surprised at that. No idea what the breach was. I know the head chef well and he said not to believe everything read online. And i know hes still head chef now. And hes a brilliant chef. Must have been something serious though to get a 0.

The owners should take some responsibility themselves rather than just blaming and taking action against relatively low paid staff.

We got one at the Hest Bank Hotel today....after two failed attempts at ordering food...we left after an Hour still hungry an example of how poor management can ruin a good dining experience.

Update on this for anyone interested.

They have just been revisited and now jumped from a four to a five. (I’ve told my mate I’m not going until it’s a five ).

Reason for a zero... while potentially very bad, thankfully nothing happened and it wasn’t for hygiene reasons.

They had been advertising dishes (and storing ingredients) as non allergy when they were. I.e. peanuts. Obviously that’s not acceptable but thankfully all sorted now. And explains why most were surprised and never noticed any issues as the food was always top notch.

Don't go to the oaks hotel. Their food hygiene is rated 1 star and having worked there a few years ago, i was shocked at the standards in that place.

Apparently you can't get a 5 on a revisit hence the 4 but will be a 5 on next visit in 3 months if they keep up the new standards

The food I’ve had has been great, service bad on more than one occasion. We had a big family meal with 4 out 14 getting the wrong order and one was stone cold.

In fairness they knocked off the drinks order so you can’t grumble too much and it wouldn’t put me off going back as my order was spot on
