Train prices for Newcastle away

Post by 1989_claret » Tue Dec 24, 2019 10:51 am

Booked our trains for Newcastle away now that TV fixtures have been confirmed and the prices are very reasonable.

It’s £43.10 advanced return from Manchester Victoria (10am out and 18:07 back) and even cheaper with a railcard.

Thought I’d share for anyone who’s thinking about getting the train.

18.07 back leaves plenty of time to walk to the station after the match and celebrate in The Victoria Comet opposite the station. The station bar The Centurion is OK too with good choice of real ales.

I had a look on the LNER website for going from Leeds and it seems like the advance fares aren't even out yet.

Burnley to York is £20 off peak anytime return on the day.

There was £7.50 tickets available York to Newcastle both directions when I looked but probably gone now with Clarets booking them.

I've just had a look and the train you get from Man Vic is the direct train from Liverpool that stops at York so will fill up with clarets.

The train an hour later, 11am at Manchester is £39.80 return from Liverpool. So if the price goes up from Manchester with bookings you still might get a deal booking from Liverpool but getting on at Manchester.

What do you think the chances are of the match tickets reaching General Sale?

If we take the full allocation I'd say almost certain. If we only ask for 1500 then no chance.

I've a mate who lives in Gateshead who's a Sunderland fan so he'd be happy to go on and support the Clarets.

I'd like to think we'll take the full allocation, first time we've played up there on a Saturday afternoon in a long time so think it will be quite popular.

Newcastle aren't selling out so they will want us to take the full allocation.

It will make general sale as this will be the 4th or 5th time we have played there in recent years. Although the first on a Saturday 3pm

They've introduced a special offer though where all season ticket holders can claim a free half season ticket, first come first served. So the ground is likely to be full. Still won't stop us taking the full allocation if we want it.

Yeah I know but it hasn't come into play yet, so don't know how many took up the offer.
They still need to save so many tickets to sell to walk ons as per premier league rules.
They have been getting 15k below capacity recently and that's without non attending STs.

They are sold out for the match against Everton this coming Saturday although they were almost 7,000 below capacity for the Palace game last Saturday.

Like durhamclaret, this is my home game and I shall be there and then at The Sage to watch Mike Lovatt with Strictly Smokin' Big Band ----hoping for a great day!

You have to book single journeys on Transpennine and Northern's websites, but it saves you 15 quid or so from trainline.

I'm going. Senior railcard return from Carlisle, about a tenner.
Only been to four aways since beginning of last season, Wolves, Everton, Sheff U and Everton, 0-1, 0-2, O-3, 0-1.

Hoping for better.

Not sure what they used to book, but £31 is great whatever method they used. The day out will be awesome.

Newcastle are a bit of a bogey side though, so the cheap train fares and day out might be the only good point of the da

When booking train tickets everyone should always check to see if it’s cheaper to split your tickets.
It’s well known now that usually splitting tickets is cheaper and if you don’t look you’re just throwing money away to usually foreign national railway companies.

"Walk back to the station" it'll take 30 mins to walk down the stairs from the top of that skyscraper of a ground, :D especially with long queues for the lift.

Not sure. I booked it as soon as tv fixtures had been confirmed, with a 2 together rail card. 9 of us staying over.
