Congratulations Jimmy Anderson 150 Tests

Post by Quickenthetempo » Thu Dec 26, 2019 8:03 am

What an achievement for him to be the first bowler to play 150 Test matches.
The lad is a miracle from Burnley.

In my humble opinion, we don’t make as much fuss about this lad and his achievements as we should.

Had he been from Yorkshire, they would already have renamed the county in his honour.

Truly remarkable sportsman.

When he became the highest ever wicket taker in test cricket for an opening bowler I suggested that Burnley Football Club should invite him to a game and get him out onto the pitch as they did in 2012 & 2016 with the Olympians.

There was much nodding of heads but nothing was ever done which is such a shame. He’s the town’s greatest ever sportsman.

Good start for England, despite the fact we've not bowled well, the 2 wickets were belated Xmas presents.

Jimmy stat:It's the third time in the last 380 Tests that someone has taken a wicket with the first ball of the match.

It's also the second time Jimmy Anderson has struck with the first ball of a Test.

It's just great to see him opening the bowling for England in a TM again, when he hobbled off at Edgbaston, many thought that would be the end of his career.

Ben Stokes plays depite his father being in intensive care,Crawley and Pope miss out,and it's an all seam attack,no spinner selected seems fair enough with the pace in this wicket.

:o we inserted, but Root has history for taking a gamble.

We needed that 3rd wicket, been a decent morning for England now,the SA batting is inexperienced and they have a long tail on paper,England could yet be batting today.

79-3 at lunch.

4 down and they haven't reached 3 figures yet,Du Plessis overturning a caught behind on review,he's the key man if the boks are going to make a score of note.

2 for Curran,1 each for Jimmy and Broad,Jofra's bowling well for no reward.

Jimmy starts a new spell with SA on 211-6. Curran has 3.
Finishes first over with an inside edge single from his final delivery the only run added.

277-9 at the close, given they were 111-5 SA will be reasonably content with that,Sam Curran with 4 he bowled beautifully,Stuart Broad with 3 he toiled away,as did all the attack on a baking hot day.

Tomorrow will tell us how good a total this is,bearing in mind England opted to bowl first,i think Joe will be disappointed.

Even stevens i'd say,but England really need a lead on 1st innings,a lot resting on this pair and then Ben Stokes,England's batting looks deep on paper,(Sam Curran's in at 8) but we all know how brittle that middle order has proven to be.

I've only just seen this but these are the words from Nasser Hussain when he presented Jimmy with his 150th Test cap before the start of play yesterday.

Jimmy, I was lucky enough to be the captain to give you your first Test cap. I find it a huge honour and privilege to be asked to give you your 150th Test cap.

We knew back then what a skilful bowler you were. We didn't realise your hunger and appetite for this game. For 16 years you put on your bowling boots and you've come out here and you've given your all. Every game, every day, every session, every spell and the next day you've woken up, your body has been aching, you've been in pain, you've dragged yourself out of bed, you've sucked it up and you've gone and done it again.

You are a very special talent, everyone has realised that over the years, you've proved it time and time again. 150 Test matches for any cricketer is special. 150 Test matches as a fast bowler is an unbelievable achievement.

Well done James Anderson.

All the good work repairing the Innings undone in less than a dozen overs.
Its both infuriating and, sadly, something that's happening too often.

We are too negative in selection
They have picked 2 Test Debutants who are bowling well and getting wickets
We should have picked Parkinson who in their second innings may have been helped by the cracks in the pitch and picked Up wickets.
Archer has to go now and either Wood Woakes or Parkinson selected
Leach is another who won’t get 5 for’s

Watching the first test match at Centurion between South Africa and England and we have reverted to type with an abject batting display after dismissing South Africa for 284.
We did manage to bat throughout a day in New Zealand, however, we seem to be back to one day mode with some of the shot selections of our 'batsmen'
We have collapsed from 141-3 to 181 all out in just 53.2 overs ---it has been painful to watch.
Philander ends up with figures of 4 for 16 off 14.2 overs.

And he'll probably be playing mard arse as well because he's not keeping wicket. We must be very short of quality if he's even on the trip.

The inability of this team to play test match innings is nearly beyond belief and Bairstow who averages 19 in his last 10 tests continues to get selected!

A penny for Ben Foakes thoughts,i'm sorry Bairstow and Buttler can't both play, one of them batting and taking the gloves maybe, but as usual nobody in the England set-up has the balls to make the big calls.

The bowlers must be somewhat cheesed off after slogging their guts out yesterday to give England a foothold in the match, and a couple of sessions later they're back out toiling once more.

I know i said the middle order was brittle, but even i didn't expect to pop out for a couple of hours, and return home to find us all out.

An early wicket for Jimmy again, but i fear it's in a lost cause.
