This was a good Boxing Day for us 60 years ago as we remained third in the first division

My brother went with my dad to this one on the old 'Ribble' X23 from Haslingden. Sadly, I wasn't allowed to go. Our last ever victory at Old Trafford to now? A lot of 'almosts' since and I think your use of 'United came back strongly in the second half' says a lot about our fortunes there. Must also include time added on to score but it has to change some time surely!

We won at Old Trafford 4-1 in '61/'62 and again the following season 5-2.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2019 12:04 pmMy brother went with my dad to this one on the old 'Ribble' X23 from Haslingden. "The win took Burnley back to third in the table, above rivals Blackburn Rovers (who played twice in two days against Blackpool) on goal average."
Twice in two days! Puts the alleged fixture congestion into perspective

Jimmy Mac often made reference to the difficult fixture list over Christmas. In '52/'53 when he was beginning his time at the Turf we played Liverpool home and away on the 25th and 26th. Then again the following season it was Preston home and away over the same two days.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2019 12:21 pm"The win took Burnley back to third in the table, above rivals Blackburn Rovers (who played twice in two days against Blackpool) on goal average."

Big mistake from me there. Put it down to the time of year. Silly, really because I recall the 1-4 and 2-5 games but for some reason thought they had occured before the 1-2 result. Have to say I didn't witness any of those games and approaching my 68 th birthday have yet to see us win at.Old.Trafford. I've stood/sat on all four sides of the ground but it.hasn't made any difference yet.Royboyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2019 12:14 pmWe won at Old Trafford 4-1 in '61/'62 and again the following season 5-2.
