TV at Christmas
TV at Christmas
Personally didn’t watch any TV on Christmas Day but I can’t believe half of all TV viewers apparently tuned in to watch ‘Gavin and Stacey’. Can’t bear James Corden so don’t watch it but it makes me wonder about the intellect of the population as a whole. The same sh*te TV and the same sh^te songs each year.

I agree with you Blackrod. But the average person is pretty thick. There is no getting away from that, so we have to accept the way things go.
Re: TV at Christmas
Have never watched Garbage and Tragedy ever.
FACT.
Must admit to watching "The Lego Movie 2" though yesterday morning

I enjoyed Gavin and Stacey just a shame we didn't find out what happened on the fishing trip.
Re: TV at Christmas
I didn't watch live TV either. I made my own TV programme from my DVDs.
Tom & Jerry - Tennis Chumps
Dad's Army - The Royal Train
Film - Jump Tomorrow
Bilko - The Twitch
Very enjoyable!

Re: TV at Christmas
The only tv we watched yesterday was the recording of “Call the Midwife” and that was when everybody had left.
Even then we didn’t watch it all as we were too knackered to finish it

Re: TV at Christmas

Re: TV at Christmas
Didn't watch much TV,found a couple of documentaries on BBC Scotland, and watched Mrs Brown's Boys,we usually find the radio more entertaining in our household.
Can't believe Gavin and Stacey is still so popular, but clearly it has a loyal fanbase judging by the viewing figures the soaps are really dropping off compared to the huge audiences they once garnered,Den & Angie's 1986 episode attracted almost 30m viewers, and Corrie usually got around 20m.
Top 10 most-watched programmes on Christmas Day 2019

No wonder the viewings are so low. I wouldn't get out of bed to watch any of that top ten.

Was ok, I loved the 2 series. Each to their own, I’d never have a pop at someone over what they watched on tv though ffs
Re: TV at Christmas
The reason for this is the same for all aspects of culture, art, music, clothing, whatever.
Talent is unpredictable, mediocrity is ubiquitous, manageable, controllable and replacable Ad Infinitum.
The elite create mediocre culture so that the can make their own currency, like Bitcoin only it's Adele or James Blunt or Ed Sheeren. The chosen minted makers of that currency are brought to the fore and paraded in a media designed to promote their currency.
It's a power trip for the elite, in contemporary art fairs the galleries compete to show off the very worst produce as a status of ther power i.e. 'eat my sh*t'.
Tracy Emin, Damien Hirst and Banksy are the princple muck producers and the stories around them Ad nauseam fog the brain as a cultural smokescreen, with all media in cahoots (Rupert Murdoch etc.)and that's why Hirst's spot picture sell for millions, it's to say we can do what we want, we are the elite and then David cameron talks about the great British exports Adel and Hirst or Daniel Buren in France, we have spots, France has stripes.
You don't know that Gavin and Stacey were watched, you are told.

Re: TV at Christmas
Gavin & Stacey pretty harmless inoffensive undemanding tv really ,the only surprise about it is how on earth does Mathew Horne get away with it.
Re: TV at Christmas
Top Claret, to cut a long story short... The remit of the makers and shakers is 'We're going to sell you s**t and you're going to like it, because we can market our product as gold'.

Re: TV at Christmas
I don't know how many more Gavin & Stacey shows there will be(at least one more now that Nessa has proposed) but I would be surprised if we ever find out about the fishing trip. There have been some brilliant comedies etc where characters have never been fully revealed, eg: Miss Mountshaft ( The Good Life) , Elizabeth (Dad's Army ,not the film), 'Her Indoors ( Minder),Cardclaret wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2019 12:11 pmI enjoyed Gavin and Stacey just a shame we didn't find out what happened on the fishing trip.
Mum(Only Fools and Horses) I suppose, it just conjures up in our own minds ,the situation, character etc. It also leaves more scope for a further show.
I thought it was good family entertainment.

Have to say the programmes / films for children on the BBC have been absolutely fantastic. Room on the Broom, Gruffalo, Zog, Stick Man, Paddington 2, Worzel Gummidge - all great.
Re: TV at Christmas
Those who call people thick for watching Gavin & Stacy have rarely actually watched it. It's actually very well written and some of the subtle comedy is very clever. Nothing wrong with it in my book, and I managed to finish a degree!
