I think that as we get older the new years ahead take on bigger negatives than the carefree plans of youth. Major plan for myself and my other half is her lovely mum she is suffering severely from vascular dementia and Alzheimer's and residential care cannot be avoided, a painful decision. On the lighter side we are going to pedal the Kennet & Avon canal we do a different canal each year looking forward to that. Whatever the rest of you guy's have planned I hope it all happens for you. Happy New Year.

That sounds like a great plan. Have you tried the Leeds-Liverpool? It's always been one of my plans but never got around to it. 127 miles I think it is.

We do ride the L&L quite a lot that and the Rochdale canal are our local ones. What we do is we pick a campsite near to the canal we intend to cover and somewhere near the middle of the canal. We pedal 25 to 30 miles out first day and back to the campsite following day the bikes go into the van and we drive to the place we finished and so on. For the Kennet we will make base camp near Devizes. We have been lucky with the weather over the years it helps so much so far we have covered the Monmouth and Brecon, Trent/Mersey in 2 holidays, Shropshire Union, Oxford this year ( not recommended towpaths terrible) The Grand Union as the name suggests is a union of several canals and we have covered a few and all the local northern ones, we are spoilt up here. I love the history fascinating places en-route.

Certainly will consider it done. I read the posts on the Canal and River Trust website and the number of people from the south of the country that rate the ride from Barnoldswick to Skipton as the most beautiful they have covered is amazing, we shouldn't take our area for granted.

I've looked at it those rides are in Collins Waterways guide book 7 which I have got for the Kennet. Would love to think I could do everyone, bucket list thing. Now would Woodley be the Woodley on the Peak Forest canal thats a great days peddling, Ashton to New Mills via Marple ... beautiful

Lots of City breaks but the big 3 for us this year are the 3 grand tours. Italy starts in Budapest this year, so the TT and stage 1, France in Paris for the finale and Spain in Madrid for the finale and hopefully the penultimate stage. 45 years wed for us this time so after Budapest we are taking the train down to Croatia for a week.

Thats very do able and if you can make one of those overnights at The Masons in Gargrave .. perfect.

Also to put on my walking boots again and do more of the Fife coastal path,which is a beautiful walk,at different times this year I've done Leven to Crail which is 16.9 miles.only another 100 miles of coastal walking and I will complete it.

Never wanted to tempt fate by wishing for anything (apart from good health for the family) but this year things are a bit different. I am going in for endoscopic back surgery, in a couple of weeks, to cure/fix a herniated disc,(no bad news on this one please)At the moment I can,now,only walk with the aid of crutches. The last game I went to, was Palace and after the game it took me about 50mins to get to the car( parked just beyond the Woodman pub).So that's it really, just to get right.

I get my first over 65's Season Ticket next year but have to wait another year for my state pension and any other benefits that may come my way.

So the intention is to get to next New Year and beyond so I can truly enjoy my retirement

Me and the wife cycled Liverpool to Leeds over three days; we stopped at Chorley and my parents' in Nelson. It's very slow going in places as some of the towpath is just grass, made even slower by the weather on the first day when it rained hard. Other places, the stretch from Lowerhouse to Barlick for example is pretty much all tarmac and easy riding. I'd certainly do it again sometime.

I went to Albania for a few days. Well worth a visit for a longer time, I'd think. I only really saw Tirana and travelled through the north-east of the country which was very beautiful.
