We need to learn to pass the f.ckin ball to each instead of hoofing it forward at every opportunity. That's the first change!!

I've watched and loved the Clarets for over 35 years but couldn't face going on tonight! The worst thing is I had 2 free season tickets that I couldn't even give away for free! I even tried my neighbours house who sits next to me on the JHU and has always said if I'm not going on give him a shout and he can use them for his friends but when I knocked on and offered him my tickets he just laughed and said he couldn't face going on either! This is the reality to all you happy clappers that think all is well at the club! I went to Everton on boxing day and enough is enough for me! This is embarrassing and it's been going on for to long. I can't be bothered listing all the failures of the Club as many have tried before and have been simply told to "Go and support someone else" like that's even an option! Think and say what you want about this post but when someone like me who has Claret and Blue blood running through there veins can't even face going on the Turf for a game against Man Utd because it's like seeing one of your children getting a good hiding in a boxing ring believe me all is not well at the Club apart from the boardroom where they are counting there profits.

Pieters in for Taylor for the Villa game. Need that little bit more defensive solidity that Erik offers. Taylor showing some worrying signs of wanting to move forward with the ball in the second half. Not to be encouraged, straight lines for ever.

Nah I’m not buying this . Fake news . No way a 35 year supporting claret would think this way . It’s cut and paste from arsenal fan tv . If you really have sat through the last 35 years then like me you must see how good we are nowDannyh1882 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2019 9:15 pmI've watched and loved the Clarets for over 35 years but couldn't face going on tonight! I dislike the pejorative term 'happy clappers' in reference to supporters who stick with the team through thick and thin. If you don't want to support your team when they are going through a rough patch all well and good but no need to abuse those that aren't quitters.

Re: Changes needed
Cotterball didn't have the novelty of seeing us try it against ManU, I suppose. It's horrible to watch at the moment, but all shyte teams scrapping it out in the PL go through it for a while. I hate it, but it is what it is. Just about everyone around us 'needs' one or two more players, and we're no different. We need a winger and a more attack-minded midfielder. This team has been grinding, practically unchanged, for a calendar year with the odd rare fun match and decent result happening along the way, but I'll save boiling my pi$$ for now because we're just a few passes away from being no longer utterly horrendous to watch, and that's (nearly) something. A few more wins will see us comfortable enough to stop caring about Burnley until next season, which is all I want right about now.
Re: Changes needed
Wish people would stop using the past as an indicator, right now we are appalling. Our management team clearly dont know how to improve how we play, thank god we have 24 points and that there are at least 4 or 5 teams that are no better than us.

Re: Changes needed
I know we have 24 points and lots of readers are revelling in this fact. However last year we went on an incredible run in January-March with a significant string of victories. In Jan we have Chelsea, Man U and Leicester. Cant see us getting any points from these. The way we are playing can see us falling below last years points level fairly soon
Lets hope our recruitment team have earned their corn in the last few weeks and we can pull off a few signings and sacrifice this loyalty we have to some very ordinary PL players

Those teams have pace, we don't. Going all out would probably have seen us picked off quite easily by Rashford, Martial and James and a heavier defeat, a bit like Newcastle did.Granny WeatherWax wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2019 10:31 pmTwo years running now we've stood off the worst united side we've ever seen and let them have the ball, grow in confidence. We kept ourself in the game, a silly mistake and a breakaway at the very end whilst pushed forward reflected the scoreline.
How many of our players would be selected in the Man Utd line up? None maybe?
We try to play to our strength and it often isn't good enough or we would be up with Liverpool.
Our League is the bottom 6 and if we are above those we are doing okay.
All in my honest opinion of course.

We only play one way under SD so most likely any signings will have to be carbon copies of the current favourites otherwise "hoofball" doesn't work (and there's no sign of any Plan B)

To put those stats in context, we had 4 presentable opportunities first half - Taylor's chip to Wood, Cork just failing to get a toe on Tarkowski's knock down, Barnes shot wide from Westwood's early ball and McNeil getting it all wrong from Hendrick's cross just before half time.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2019 8:35 pmIts getting worse.
Have to go 3 up top now. Try something different. They know we darent attack them.
We didnt capitalise, but (whilst the first half wasnt brilliant and there was definite room for improvement) it wasnt that bad and it wasn't all one way traffic. Ironically we probably created less clear chances in the second half when we had more play.
I've been quite critical of some recent performances, but theres an overreaction to this one. We probably played better than in the first half against Spurs last year - but we won that so it gets forgotten.

Re: Changes needed
Its all about "fine margins". For the life of me cannot remember who said it
Joe Cole hit it on the head last night-you just cannot make mistakes against the top teams who have pace and great finishers. My memory instinctively takes me to the games v Liverpool (two goals), Chelsea two, Everton, Man U, Man City and I think Arsenal too
The mistakes against Everton and Man U have prevented us being in 10th position, above Arsenal and Everton and four consecutive clean sheets
There are a lot of teams getting their act together ie Watford, Brighton, Saints, Everton, Newcastle, West Ham could with the right manager. The fight to avoid relegation could be really tight for clubs like ourselves and Bournemouth on tight budgets and a fixed style of play. I feel Norwich are resigned to it and are not going to splash out
Makes three points v Villa so valuable

Problem could be that other teams have top class international players who are paid handsomely whereas ours aren't.
Another one of these threads started to gain a lead in the quest to become UTC poster of the year / next Burnley manager.

You mean like Sheff Utd
Part of a managers remit is to adapt to changing circumstances within a game if it is going against you
And to help identify and bring in new talent to improve the starting 11
I say again, this season Man utd have lost to Bournemouth, Watford, WHU, Palace, drawn against Everton twice and also Sheff utd and Southampton
We have won just once, in all Prem games against a top six side, and we will still lose to Arsenal at home even if they are out of the top six

Wasn't that long ago we were drawing at Anfield and Old Trafford (and not just 0-0) and winning and drawing at Chelsea and drawing at Spurs with some immense rear guard actions and the whole team showing real grit
When these fixtures come along now we are resigned to losing and its usually trying to keep the score down
Its a measure to me that we have not kept pace with the rest of the PL

The changes needed are the coaching staff.
We have paid over 10 million for the facilities and they might as well practice in the car park outside.
Just what are we getting better at?
Playing long balls is fine, Liverpool do it more than most. But teach your forwards to run in the direction of the ball, practice what you're going to do so our players have an head start.
Play players that want the ball.

Our lack of transfers have seen us regress.

It's a brutal league and teams like Norwich, and possibly Villa have been exposed because of how tough it is. If we weren't good enough we would have been relegated long before now, surely?
We are still on course to survive another season.

Spot on. And for many the signs were there. Plenty of us have been banging the drum since January 2018. Improve the first team.
Plenty are complacent about this coming January. 'Dont do business in January' . Rubbish. Youve been brainwashed if you agree with that. We could get two players in now who wont need a 'Dyche pre season' and thereforw wont need huge overhaul in August. Just another two will do then...
Re: Changes needed
I can see the reasons why transfers are difficult in January with teams not wanting to lose players mid season to rivals, or just from their squad full stop. However looking at it the other way, players who have not played so far this season may be more open to move in January to get games immediately.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 11:08 pmSpot on. If we wait until the summer, the argument then is that players fancy their chances of playing more regularly at their own club by turning up fit for pre-season and playing well in friendlies.... then the cycle starts again and we still sign nobody.
I still think though that if Dyche signed two players in January would would be unlikely to see them unless we get some injuries and he is forced to play them. It's long been a big strength of his to stick to his XI, but also his downfall when things desperately need shaking up.

Re: Changes needed
there are a lot of excellent things going on at the football club but anyone that thinks our recruitment is anything beyond bang average is delusional. Needs to be addressed this month but I know it wont be. I agree with others, we have regressed and that is because we have the most predictable starting 11 out of all of the 91 clubs. Baring injuries you know it's going to be
Pope
Bardsley Mee Tarks Taylor
? Cork Westwood McNeil
Barnes Wood
That's one place that is potentially up for grabs - that would be poor for a newly promoted club never mind one that has been in the division as long as we have.
And before someone says "we'll we've done ok" - I agree, we have - but I like to put out fires as they start

UTC specialists struggling to come to terms with losing to Everton and United, how different it could have been had the club listened to them, we wouldn't be in the mess we are currently in (24 points from 20 games). We had 12 points on Boxing Day 2018, not good enough for some having 24 in 2019. The club need to start reading UTC to work where they are going wrong. Brainwashed eh? UTC gold.
