Easily one of the Top 2 Referees

Complete shite from the Plastic Scouser
He allowed foul after foul by United to go unpunished
He allowed Young to dive about at every opportunity conning freekicks
We had Shaw feigning injury and the bombing along like Usain Bolt.
The ref was guttless and totally ineffectual
He even awarded offsides with 4 men playing us on
If he ever refs a top flight game again its too soon

Shaw was not even playing!!

However a foul now is any contact slightly heavier than a light breeze.

Apart from the obvious dive, he gave a freekick every single time a United player went down.

McNeil committed a foul but then launched a tirade of abuse at the AR ---gets cautioned ---nothing new at all, even in these modern times!

He was very quick to card our players (but all were pretty much deserved), yet he really didn't want to card United and seemed to bend over backwards not to. I've always thought he was very good, but these days he really does seem to have a rather worrying "rapport" with some of the bigger teams/players, like Young who as mentioned falls over when anyone is within 10 yards of him and automatically gets a free kick followed by a little catch up natter from a smiling Mr Dean.

I'm with MDWat on that performance. Dean bought every single "I felt him breathe so I knew I could fall down!" antic. And, as for how you can referee properly when you are 30 yards from the action ...

Their lad should have been booked for fouling Charlie Taylor just before Ben Mee and Charlie Taylor themselves got booked for similar fouls.
McNeil should have got booked for shouting at the liner, but I doubt it was a foul in the first place (although I haven't seen it back).

Like most of the 'big six', Man Utd's players are cheats and crybabies - the ref cannot possibly see through it all so he's bound to be hoodwinked from time to time.

He did okay apart from the foul on Charlie where he just let it go. Couldn't understand why he continually allowed big mouth Maguire to keep mouthing off.

Bizzare when Fred didn't get anything after sprinting 20/30 yards to Dean and getting in his face when Dean judged the ball to have gone out for a corner.

A Burnley player does similar (McNeil) man gets a card, typical United bias.

Ref was good.

Not sure we have linesmen putting flags up for marginal ones. We lost out a couple of times when we had a good move progressing. One on Barnes was definitely onside on the replay I saw so why on earth are the linesman flagging. I thought Var was supposed to mean the flag stays down unless blatant....

Gave away too much to utd. Every time they were about to be tackled they threw themselves on the floor and he fell for it.

And don't forget the lino who gave a free kick cos one of the poor loves' boot fell off cos he's got no laces.

VAR is undermining our referees including Martin Atkinson, Michael Oliver and Dean who are amongst the best. They have lost self-confidence and decisiveness this season as a consequence of VAR's introduction and the fear of being constantly over-ruled

Poor performance from Dean. Allowed Man U players to run the game. Was constantly conned by the Utd, players and allowed all the Utd. players to give him an earbashing at every possible opportunity. Is he due to retire soon ?

Watched on TV so not allowed to rate (which I find strange as I get the benefit of the replays which enables, I would have thought, a better perspective of the decision making, but I digress) so all I will say is that those Utd players seem to fall over very easily, and Dean seemed to give them a lot of free kicks when they did fall over.

That is the modern game and it will get worse with referees told to penalise the least bit of contact ---you can't have these multi-million pound stars getting injured because they are who people tune in their TV to watch ---not the likes of Ben Mee and James Tarkowski!

Dean is my favourite ref but this was a bad one from him.

There were several decisions I thought were bad, and they tended to favour United. No doubt we were robust, but we do that in every game and in this game the refereeing felt different.

We gave United too much respect, and I sense Dean did too.

Also why wasn't De Gea and the two full backs booked for time wasting everytime they got a goal kick both fullback came into the box De Cheat looked at them our forwards moved forward then De Cheat waved them out and proceeded to launch it. Wasted at least a minute every time but ManUDean allowed it every time.

There was one instance where he played advantage, they lost the ball and he incorrectly pulled it back imo. Other than that, there wasn't too much to get overly angry about.

It is all about interpretation of the Laws of the Game and the directives they receive from above in carrying out the desired interpretation.
You have to remember that they are employed by the PMGO and paid a salary. therefore, if they do not do as they are instructed, they could quite easily be demoted or dismissed, just as any worker can.

You then hit another problem because there are not the number of young referees progressing into senior football around the country and this could well lead to a shortage at some stage in the future, particularly when you now need 6 people to officiate a Premier League match!

Thought he had a terrible game, not sure what a player needs to do to get a yellow card if the lad who took Taylor out didn't manage to get one.

Not one warning of time wasting despite every player touching it before the eventual free kick taker knocked a short pass to restart play.

De Gea didn't get a warning for looking to take a short goal kick each time then pushing the entire team up the pitch.

Fred didn't get booked for kicking the ball away after Pope touched it past their striker near the end.

Big sides always seem to get this treatment, potentially it's the fact they are so adept at running down the clock but its blatant and doesn't get stopped.

I’ve always thought Dean was OK but he was absolutely shocking last night with ANY contact with a United player seemingly resulting in a foul being given, even on the rare occasions when they didn’t go down at the faintest touch. I’ll add to the various failings already listed on this thread his total failure to stop Martial standing 20cm in front of the ball every time we tried to take a free kick.

Fred did get booked for that incident, as did Williams who committed the foul on Pope.

I must have missed Fred's booking watching Pope run all the way back to his goal line! Always fascinating to see how knackered keepers are after a short sprint despite spending so much time physically active.

Williams got his booking for diving when he came together with Bardsley, so it must have been Lingard who got the booking for the foul on Pope.

Sorry guys, you are all getting worked up about nothing.
In the modern game, they tell you to get on with the game, hence you can take a free kick or throw in ---"within the vicinity of the area" whatever that means!
Also a player is supposed to retreat the mandatory 10 yards for a free kick to be taken , however, they are encouraging players to get on with the game and not insist on this !
There are many other direcctives which are alien to the ordinary fan and they see players getting away with stuff week after week.
The game has changed beyond recognition at the top level and is not the game that I now want to watch ---sadly!

True --I stand corrected! I just know that he booked two players right in front of where I was sat. Pope sprinted back to get the ball which was in the back of the net after Fred kicked it there!

I know what your saying, don't you think this is alienating the modern fan, it's like you have to do a course just to understand the game. Do you think the games getting to complicated?

Re: RATE THE REF - Mike Dean v Manchester United

The game is only getting too complicated because the line between a foul and a dive are so drunkenly blurred as to be the same thing.
It makes it much harder for the ref to know what's a foul and what isn't and so the tackles with proper contact are invariably punished with a yellow card.
