Mcneil
Burnley need to build this team around Mcneil,
He needs to be moved central. All of our good play comes from Him.

Re: Mcneil
For all his excellent attacking work he's very poor positionally.
The 4-3-3 with him as the furthest forward midfielder may work a treat though.

Either him or JBG could play more centrally. But I dont think we have enough further ahead for it to make much difference. Barnes is our of sorts. JRod is pretty much anonymous. And I dont need to repeat what I think of Wood

Re: Mcneil
He came strong in the second half and our bright light. Hands up I was for resting him after Everton. I think we learned a few things about our players tonight
Hendrick -if he wont sign lets give his place to JBG who showed some class. He did not seem interested-looks like he wants to get away
Jay- to start ahead of Barnes, who sadly has done little for a a number of games now. On this form Barnesy offers little.Thought JBG and Jay Rod made a difference and hope they start v Villa
Thought the defence (just like v Everton were sound)
We have to start v Villa like we played in the second half today

Re: Mcneil
Wobble your own for thinking he does anything more than score tap ins other than be offside and give the ball away. His contribution to the game as a whole is dire. Just watch him for a bit. Its difficult to create anything when he doesnt bother to make any runs to take the pressure off, and whenever the ball comes to him he just loses it. Still. People will continue to quote stats. Did you know Legzdins has conceded fewer goals than Pope this season. I'd say get him in the team!!!

Re: Mcneil
I was arguing at half time that we should take either Wood or Barnes off and play McNeil as a no. 10 and replace Hendrick with Gudmundsson to keep more possession and take the game to them more. I think Dyche did move McNeil more central and we improved a lot.

Lol @ criticising Wood, can you remember how poor we were when he wasn't in the side?
He also runs the channels extremely well and scores more than 'tap ins'.

I'm told Charlie Adam ran today's game at Preston.
Re: Mcneil
How many of our squad are genuine premier league quality. I would suggest McNeil Tarks for sure. Pope and Mee probably. Could make a case maybe for Wood and Taylor at their best but that’s it

Re: Mcneil
McNeil will be a brilliant central attacking midfielder - as he played in the last 15 minutes yesterday. Trouble is that he’s not yet deemed ready to do that every game. He needs building up to do that for us, we can’t rush the development and in the mean time it’s a good option to have.

Re: Mcneil
I'd like to see McNeil play centrally more often, without a doubt. Against teams where a bit more craft is needed to either hold the ball and allow us to manage the game, or to break down a stubborn defence, theres no question in my mind he can add something in that so called "number 10" role.
But the criticism Wood gets is astonishing. His goalscoring record is exemplary, his ability to get on the end if crosses genuinely superb, and he runs the channels hugely effectively. Hes a massive part of our success.

Can't tackle for sh!t, in that respect Dyche probably thinks he does less damage out wide.

Re: Mcneil
The names listed might get into other PL teams but I suspect not every week. Westwood was not even training with the Villa team when they were in the Championship and clubs were not queing up to take him. Occasionally Burnley will get the best out of someone -Jones, Ward,Arfield and Heaton come to mind. All languishing in the lower leagues or not getting a game. In the case of Westwood he has a good assist record but after a tremendous season last year has not been consistent this season-something that cant happen with just 2 CM's

BBC say he is worth £24.75 million with spurs, Palace and Newcastle interested. Its on their sports site and lists a few players who could move clubs in Jan.

Re: Mcneil
If we give McNeil away for £25m it will be insane
We need to get him out wide left though where his crosses can do damage
Also get him to shoot more as hes got a hammer of left foot

McNeil is a raw talent but thus far give or take a nice change of pace and the almost unheard of ability to beat a man he’s a work in progress and I’m amazed Dyche doesn’t give him the occasional rest ala Sir Alex used to do back in the day with his young guns.

We could not afford/compete to buy McNeil today if he were at another club, therefor we must keep him for a season or two longer at all costs.

Re: Mcneil
You’re quite right , McNeil is indeed our only creative outlet , just typing that seems almost staggering ( as an established prem club) I’d like us to keep him another season to get a bit more from him and polish him up for a big fee . Not sure of him as CM though due to his tackling but with a quality creative CM alongside him he could really thrive ,which was presumably the original idea with DD before it went t1ts upclaretgimmer wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2019 10:16 pmTrouble is ALC Fergy had other racehorses to replace like for like, SD has only bought workhorses so take DM out and we are bereft of creativity so whilst I agree with you it won't happen.

Re: Mcneil
I for one hope McNeil leaves in summer for 40 million plus and gets a massive bumper contract somewhere where he can still develop. Think he deserves it and he’s already out outgrown us at only 20 years old, fair play to the lad.

Like I've said before, if he is going to leave soon, it's best being in the summer after a possible tournament with the full England side. It could add several more million onto his tag.

JBG surely too? As well as Westwood as stated elsewhere.
What about Brady pre injury?
And Barnes is averaging a goal 1 in 3 over last season and a half. And he is much more than just a goalscorer.

Re: Mcneil
I think we'd have gone down last season had he not come in through a forced move due to injuries. We can't get that lucky again when he moves. So it'll be up to the board whether to bring in some quality or go down.
