Don't think Man Utd will have an easier away win all season. We are so poor at keeping possession it is untrue. Bit more spirited in the 2nd half but no getting away from the fact that we were devoid of any attacking threat.

Man Utd’s first clean sheet since September. Their 3rd clean sheet of the season and their 3rd away win of the season. The first half was truly horrible again. The second half marginally better but they had us exactly where they wanted us. We created one chance in the whole game and it’s all pretty horrible to watch at the moment. At least watching Tarkowski is good - bloke is a man mountain and too good for us now.

Pope 7 - Quiet game really, made a decent stop from the freekick
Bardsley 8 - Made some crucial blocks and tackles and did well going forward. Forced a good save out of De Gea. Good game from him.
Taylor 6 - Costly mistake, but didn't do too bad getting forward.
Mee 8 - Excellent again, just about outshone by Tarks
Tarkowski 9 - Immense
Hendrick 4 - Bloody hell.. he had a mare.
Cork 6 - Can;t knock his workrate, but looked like he was chasing shadows at times
Westwood 6 - as above.
McNeil 7 - Quiet first half, but suddenly second half he came to life and what a difference it makes when he gets the ball and makes things happen.
Barnes 5 - Not effective today. Ref wasn;t going to give him anything and he skewed an okay chance
Wood 5 - Bossed in the air by Lindeloff, never really made much happen

Rodriguez 8 - His constant harrying and chasing made a difference and he was urging the team to push up and close Utd down up field. Impressed.
Brady 4 - Think he is done, offered nothing.
JBG 6 - A few flashes of his old self, looking forward to getting him back fully fit.

First half awful again. Second half was a bit better with at least a bit more attacking threat. 2 shots on target in the last 3 games is absolutely pathetic though and badly needs addressing. We need to get some better footballers into the side to give us the ability to keep the ball better and get something going in the final third. J Rod and JBG have to start next time for me.

Pope 7
Bardsley 7
Tarkowski 8 excellent
Mee 7
Taylor 5
Hendrick 4 **** poor ( does anybody ever look at the team sheet and think great Hendrick is playing ? ) not good enough. Have to strengthen.
Westwood 5
Cork 5 far far too lightweight need to upgrade
McNeil 7 good second half need to get him on the ball more
Barnes 5 ineffective
Wood 5 not great

Subs

JBG 7
JRod 5

Second half was much better and in isolation we’ve played much worse. However .... It is a continuation of a theme of predictability, no pace, no craft, poor ball retention, hoof ball and no attacking threat or quality in the final third. Central midfield has gone missing. Most fans can predict the games before we start so how easy must it be for opposing managers. Without the Claret tints it really is poor to watch at the moment. JBG actually got me off my seat second half and I had almost forgotten what that felt like. That isn’t right. I might give it a break for a couple of games just to get some enthusiasm back.

Brady was on the pitch for literally 7 minutes and he didn't do anything wrong. Retained the ball reasonably well. Weird.

He didn't appear to do much right, either, to me.

Yet maybe I am still recalling his nightmare at Everton.

Pope 7
Bardsley 6 (gives way too too much room and ground sometimes)
Tarks 8
Mee 8
Taylor 7 (really unfortunate to make the error as he's still MILES better than Pieters)
Cork 5
Westwood 6
McNeil 7
Hendrick 5
Barnes 6
Wood 5

Jayrod 6
JBG 6
Brady N/A

United are no great shakes these days and I was at least pleased to see were trying to get tighter and far more physical than against other big teams (like City the other week for example) right from the off. Crap that it was, the first half was a creditable stalemate until Taylor had a brain fart and gifted them the lead. After that it was always going to be difficult, but we did TRY to have a go, especially later in the second half. Ultimately though we didn't even carry enough offensive threat to outwit this distinctly average United outfit and the goalie only had one proper save to make. The second goal is a total irrelevance because it was a beak away when we had pretty much everyone up. I came away frustrated and more than a bit angry after watching that. We haven't progressed imo from the days of Ings (or Gray) and Vokes, as they would definitely have caused United more problems and when you factor in Mike Dean seemingly seeking an invite to the United New Year's Eve Bash and Ashley Young showing that as well as working on footy in training teams like them also spend a lot of time working of falling over with style and the number of United fans who don't even live in England, never mind Stretford, I just felt what's the point? I suddenly felt I was having my hard earned cash stealthily picked from my pocket by a bunch of blokes who get more money in a week than most people see in 5 years and what do they give in return? I am entitled to expect football (that's what I pay for) and football on a level playing field to boot, but instead I get Ashley Young doing everything he can to avoid playing football and fall on the floor! And I'm paying him to do it!!! What a mug I am!

And sadly there always has to be one. As it happens, he falls 17 minutes short of reaching the 20 minute minimum for ratings but how on earth do you rate a player who comes on that late and does nothing wrong?

What's more odd is not only rating him 3 or 4 but then going further and commenting on his performance.

All in all another disappointment. Though Dyche myst get some credit at least for some positive changes. Albeit an awful first half. The preferred starting XI looks very turgid. Need McNeil and JBG to start, and preferably more central. Need to try 4231 for me. I'd happily have Hendrick and Westwood as a 2. But Dyche wont have a floating 3 behind a striker, as he believes it leaves the full backs isolated.

No he didn't. He lost the very first header he went for against Young, then got himself tangled up with one of our players and gave the ball away the very next touch.

Apart from that I don't think he really got near it.

I doubt he was brought on to win headers.

I am not sure how criticising poor play is making someone a "scapegoat" ?

This thread is about opinions and rating players.

I know Brady wasn't on for long enough for his rating to count, but he made a mess of the little he did.

Tend to think we contained the opposition well in the 1st half, but then the costly mistake. Took the game on in the 2nd half but few clear cut chances, hit on the break to give the opposition a flattering score line.

Pope 6. Solid, little to do, but good save with feet and 1 on 1 with Martial. Perhaps could have stayed more upright for the 1st goal.
Bardsley 7. Strong. Slowed Williams down early on. Goal line stop, good effort on goal in 2nd half. Crossing poor.
Tarkowski 8. Immense. MOM for me. Martial in his pocket.
Mee 7. Decent
Taylor 5. Unfortunate judgement which led to the 1st goal, otherwise a fair game.
Hendrick 5. Provided support top Bardsley down the flank but offered little going forward.
Cork 7. Decent, up against Matic who remains a very good player.
Westwood 7. Hard working.
McNeil 6. Some good touches, but screwed his effort on goal horribly wide. Not involved enough, for me.
Barnes 5. Ineffective.
Wood 5. Worked hard but 2nd touch was usually a tackle.

Gudmundsson 6. Some nice touches, not a bad free kick.
Rodriguez 7. Energetic and stole the ball well off Matic to set up a decent opportunity.

Pope 6. Poor kicking again
Bardsley 6. Couldn’t handle Williams
Tarks 8 mom
Mee 7
Taylor 5 huge error cost a better mark
Hendrick 4
Cork 5
Westwood 5 not been at his best since injury
McNeil 6 ( 4 in first 8 in second)
Wood 4 no threat
Barnes 4 as Wood

JBG 6 offered s bit of pace
JRod 6 did ok

First half tactics were 100% wrong. I get it that we were frightened of their pace on the break but the second half showed we were very capable of giving them a tough game. When we actually pass the ball we look a decent team. Sitting back against the good teams only works if you have players with the pace of James and Rashford etc. sitting back and playing hoof ball is wrong

Rodriguez 7

Another turgid, one dimensional performance devoid of any pace, skill, creativity or attacking intent. As soon as United scored the first it was game over. Who better for them to play when they have been struggling for a clean sheet than Burnleynil.

Fans accepted these kind of games when we were first promoted. After 4 years of it and the absence of even any intent to try and improve, it is very quickly switching off some fans.

1st half.
Like watching an outclassed boxer constantly on the ropes trying to land one haymaker. Same routine for the last two seasons.
All 3's. Dyche zero

2nd half.
Dyche hears that the West Ham job is vacant.
"Right lads, let's play football"
Pope 7
Bardsley 7
Tarks 8 He can pass the ball when Dyche allows him
Mee 8
Taylor 8
Hendrick 6
Westwood 7
Cork 6
McNeil 8
Barnes 5
Wood 6

Jay 7
JBG 8

One of the first times for an awful long time the fans actually got some exciting attacks involving most of the team rather than just McNeil.
That second half just goes to prove that we have the players capable of playing football on the turf not just grinding out a result to keep Dyche in clover.

Another gifted goal how many is that this season?. If they had a stat for that we’d be way out in front. Point was there for the taking but more often than not the final ball was not

And sadly there always has to be one. As it happens, he falls 17 minutes short of reaching the 20 minute minimum for ratings but how on earth do you rate a player who comes on that late and does nothing wrong?
He wasn’t on long enough to rate. On the other hand He did give the ball away needlessly and I’m struggling to remember anything positive.
